I wasn't told about auto pay and they took money out of my account without telling me. The amount was different from what I suppose to be paying!

HORRRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. RENTED A **** FOR OVER A YEAR, RATES *** REASED BY $35 BEGINNING FEBUARY 1, 2023. MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY IN JANUARY SO I PAID FEBRUARY STORAGE RENTAL EARLY, 1/26/23. i RECEIVED AN OFFER ON THE VEHICLE WE HAD STORED ON 2/1/23. i VACATED THE **** ON 2/2/23 AND INFORMED PUBLIC STORAGE. i ALSO REQUESTED A FULL OR PRORATED REFUND. WAS ASKED IF **** WAS EMPTY, AND ALSO IF I HAD REMOVED LOCKS. MY ANSWER WEAS YES TO BOTH QUESTIONS.WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A NO REFUND POLICY, I DID NOT WANT PUBLIC STORAGE TO RENT MY PAID IN FULL **** UNTIL MARCH S***E THEY WOULD NOT REFUND ANY THING. THE FOLLOWING DAY,WHEN i ATTEMPTED TO ENTER GATE TO MY STORAGE **** ON 2/3/23, MY ACCESS HAD BEEN REMOVED, CODE REMOVED. GOT NO SATISFACTION FROM ANYONE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHO MORE OR LESS SAID TOO BAD. THIS HAS LEFT ME ANGRY AND I FEEL CHEATED.

I placed my car in storage at ******************************************************************************* from October 2021 through January 2022. The vehicle was a 2018 ****** Camry in excellent, fully-service state. I paid ~$1000 in rent with a small fee for storage insurance for about three months. When I came back to collect the vehicle and started driving, a lot of the check engine lights came on. I had a mobile mechanic come look at the engine the next day and he explained it had been eaten by rats and was undriveable in it's current state. I called Public Storage to explain. They did not apologize and just said they would clean the other units and referred me to the insurer, Orange Door Storage Insurance. I checked the terms of the insurance brochure and the most they would offer for rodent damage was ~$200. Public Storage left me in a very vulnerable position and I was forced to purchase a new vehicle immediately while losing thousands of dollars on my old one. This is one of the most stressful merchant transactions I've experienced. DO NOT use Public Storage. They are making money for little to no service.

The property manager drilled my locks off and stole items out of my unit. You can't make this stuff up.

      Hi folks-
I won't bore any of you with another story... just like the rest here. Venting has its place but, it's more important (since you've found your way here for a reason) that you steer clear of being victim to an 'obvious pattern'.
If you are without alternative(s), do WHATEVER you can to store with these 'organized extortionists' on a VERY SHORT BASIS. E.g.- Move to another unit under a different name, etc.
There's a reason why they carry the burden of having EARNED a -- 1 star out of 5 -- rating.
After storing just a matter of months, something ('programmed' in to a robotic dance) which will happen 2-to-3 times per year (adding 30+ percent on top of the previous adjusted total) will be sent to you:
" There is a Rate Change on your storage space:
      Hi there,
Thank you for being a valued Public Storage customer. We want to let you know of an upcoming change on your account.
The following rate goes into effect on --/--/2023."
How and/or why can they do this? Well, printed right inside (integral to) the contract you MUST agree to before you get a spot is:
"We may change your Monthly Rent, fees and charges, and any other terms of this Rental Agreement with 30 days' notice to you. We may send notice to your email address."
** Be forewarned; the "we may" above = 'WE WILL'. Any valued, monthly paying, customer should be expecting a stable, or even reduced, rate of payment. An increase needs to be substantiated, not just arrogantly ordered.
Okay. I'm a stranger to you. Still, I hope you do the wiser thing by just NOT giving your business and money to them. That's the only way to manage what is supposed to be a 2-WAY STREET.
You need them and they need you.
THIS LARGE, FAT CORPORATION 'COULD NOT' CARE LESS ABOUT YOU OR I.
'Public Storage' has been the largest of publicly traded storage real estate investment trusts in
      the US.
Actions speak louder than words. When less people come knocking on their door- they'll get the point.

Unfortunately, I rented a storage from the facility at $226 monthly as well as a storage in Myrtle Beach (not public's thank God) for $70 (my father passed away and I was displaced after my lease ended because new property owners wanted to raise the rent and couldn't because I am on section 8. Fast forward to yesterday, February 1, 2023 I was told that because I moved out on the first of the month I had to pay for the entire month. $226 for one day. Now I can't make the government or my understanding new landlords move me in any faster then the law allows. This heartless company did not care. However, the storage in Lake City SC just told me I had to be out by the third of February or pay the entire month. I'm already dealing with the loss of my father and Public Storage made it 10x worse. Heartless just because they can.

I have used Public Storage for over 10 years. I have one of the smallest units available. Over this period of time their late fees have become exorbitant where the fees are higher than the storage cost. I have contacted the corporate office several times, to have these fees adjusted. However, the company will then add a "lien" fee to increase charges & keep customers from accessing their property. This seems to be along the lines of price gouging! I plan to empty my VERY SMALL unit ASAP. I believe this is a matter to be seriously investigated.

Huge rat infestation problem. Management knows about it but it hasn't been fixed. So much stuff ruined , but as long as they are getting their money they don't care. Just keep raising the price. In addition to rats there is also theft issues, probably because so close to the freeway. The management just makes excuses! Avoid this place, unless you want your stuff ruined. We had to take 5 loads of ruined stuff to the dump. And all we kept in there was furniture, seasonal clothing, household goods and tools. No food! Atrocious !

I lost my home, and had to downsize to a small apartment. I have my storage space, and it is secure. However, over the course of 3 years my rates went up over 50%, and this is during the pandemic. I'm disabled and on a fixed income. Even if I was able to go through it all, I don't know how to get rid of the volume of stuff I had to store because I had to vacate my property so quickly. I feel trapped, and starting this month am paying over $***/mo
