Called roto rooter in April 2025 for a slow flushing toilet. They sent out two men. One was the plumber/worker and the other a salesman. The worker sent a camera down my sewer pipe and told me i had a cracked pipe under my house and that mud was clogging the pipe. He showed me a blury video of water in a pipe and not being a plumber i said now what? Well it was my luck day as the salesman was there to hand me his card. He said he works real well with insurance companies. They gave me a written estimate for $14,000.00 for repairs. They refused to send copies of the video to my insurance company or me. I had another plumber give me an estimate for half the price. That plumber did the job and found that there was no broken sewer pipe. Mind you the sewer pipe was under my dining room floor which is on a concrete slab. It was a huge mess. It was also a lie. Luckily my insurance company paid for the demolition and sewer pipe replacement. Is roto rooter running a scam? You decide but always get a second opinion on major work.Initial Complaint

On 5/21/2025, I called Rooter Hero Pumbling, after I was unable to clear a backed up sewer line. I called the *** & requested a camera to view the issue. First tech came out almost 3hrs from promised time, he said his camera wasnt working and called for a supervisor to come out. Sup. arrived 45 min later, he said his camera detected broken clay ***** that my sewer line had collapsed ***** ft from my downstairs bathroom to almost the outside sidewalk. He also said the foundation in my garage is sinking. The initial est. was $40,000 to break the frt lawn, place a sleeve around the collapsed red clay ***** install a new clean out, break my water fountain that could be in the way of the ***** break ground through my outside tiled hallway. I explained I couldnt afford that & immediately they dropped the price to $22,000. At 9:30pm, I authorized the repair. The supervisor said he was applying for a late night permit which I thought odd. The next morning the company was 2 hrs late to arrive for the repair. I called my insurance company to put in a claim for damages and then I phone my water department to come out and inspect because the repair they sold me wasnt making sense. They wanted to break the city sidewalk and the city strip to cut tree roots, I explained to Rooter Hero, I didnt own that section of land the city of ********* did. The water **** came out immediately they hooked up their camera and said my sewer line was not broken, there was no red clay ***** the pipe is SDR ***** & there was no blockage from the lawn to the street. The water **** found my clean out which was about 3 feet from where Rooter Hero started digging. We were able to clean out the line with no complications, no broken pipes found!!! The City of Fairfield ********** reported Rooter Hero to the permit **** because they did not file for a permit and to the city offices for potential scam. I cancelled the order.Initial Complaint

I am filing this complaint regarding deceptive and excessive billing by Roto-Rooter following a water mitigation service at my home. The water damage was caused by a clean water leak from a busted water heater, which typically qualifies as Category 1. However, Roto-Rooter changed the classification to Category 2, increasing the cost and scope of work without proper justification.A technician installed far more drying machines than necessary for the small affected area, resulting in inflated equipment charges. The drying process was supposed to be completed by Monday, but I had to call multiple times to get the equipment removed. I was billed for the extra days the equipment remained on-site, despite no longer being needed.Roto-Rooter also claimed that technicians visited multiple times to monitor the equipment. However, my home security cameras show only one technician visit. This discrepancy raises concerns about false billing for services that were not rendered.I compared Roto-Rooters invoice to a third-party estimate based on industry-standard pricing. The third-party estimate confirmed that fewer machines, a lower category classification, and a shorter drying period were appropriate. Their cost was in the hundreds, while Roto-Rooters charges reached into the thousands. This conductincluding reclassifying clean water, overcharging for unnecessary equipment, billing for visits that didnt happen, and ignoring valid complaintsis unacceptable and appears predatory, especially in an emergency situation.Resolution Sought:A full and transparent audit of charges and services Correction of the water classification Removal of charges for unneeded equipment and unverified technician visits A fair refund or adjustment for overcharges I respectfully ask the BBB to investigate Roto-Rooters billing practices in this matter.Initial Complaint

On or about 1-9-25 our Company the *********** called out Roto Rooter(************ location) because of a musty smell we had in two of our offices. There was no water damage, no apparent leaks, just a musty smell. They did moisture readings and said the issue was within the walls of one office. Left their equipment overnight. The next day we called them back out because nothing had improved. They then said in order to get to the root of the problem they would have to open the wall. We chose to open the wall ourselves and once we did, there was zero issue of mold or water damage within the walls. On top of this Roto rooter sends us an invoice for $6000.00 for accomplishing nothing. Nothing they did for Eid of the smell. It also cost us additional money to have the wall repaired back as well as cost to replace the flooring in the two offices. I met with their team and us to have them help us understand why they would be charging us for not accomplishing anything we called them out for. I told them that this is truly unjust! They came back several weeks later and said they will take a reduced amount of $3000.00 to settle. Roto Rooter is trying to take advantage of our company and have now returned an attorney to file a claim and sue us for theft of services,Initial Complaint

My rental house has a water leaking issue and we had ROTO ROOTER to conduct water mitigation service. I also file the claim to my insurance company for the accident. ROTO ROOTER provided an estimate between $13000 to $18000. After this company conducted the service, it charged us $19,998.21 initially. However, this cost was denied by the insurance company because some individual services was denied by the insurance company. Then the bill was reduced to $17933. I called the company to negotiate to lower the cost down to $$17169. During the negotiation, the manager said they won't charge if they don't perform the service. However, after I reviewed each action, I found out some service doesn't make sense to me. I listed some actions don't make sense to me 1. Why is personal protective equipment charged to us?2. why is equipment setup, take down, and monitoring charged to us? The equipment should not be too large to carry.3. Why is Water extract on carpeted floor charged to us? This doesn't make sense because the carpet was removed due to the wetness so why did they conduct water extract so they can charge us?4. Clean more than the floor with pressure steam? After the carpet is remove, they did this nonsense service!5. Content manipulation charge? I don't even know what that is !6. HEPA vacuum? Why did they perform this service? Even they did, why does it cost $500 just for vacuum?7. Air mover cost is even crazy for more than $1000.What I listed here is only for basement. There are other unreasonable cost in other rooms.I emailed the company with the questions I have but they don't care and reply me with questions. They said if I don't pay, it will go to legal action. I feel it is a common method to force the customer to pay. However, all I wanted is a reasonable price because the listing above are some actions that don't make sense to me.Please also see the comments I have in the attachment of the bill.Initial Complaint

I am very frustrated with the lack of response from this company. I have left 4 messages about my recent service on 3/14/25 and nobody has returned my calls and I am unable to reach a live person to speak to. I had the main line to my house snaked and before I signed the contract for service, I was given a 6 month residential guarantee. After payment, the technician, **** *******, did not give my the receipt. On my way to work, when I realized he had forgotten to give me the receipt, I called roto-rooter and they said they would put it in my mailbox. Upon returning home and looking at the receipt, he had changed the guarantee form "residential 6 mon" to "commercial 30 days." It is illegal to change a contract after it has been signed and the work payed for. I would like a call back and I would like to be given a new receipt. We used the ************** branch located on Demeter St.Initial Complaint

The worker named ******* from my local Roto-Rooter located at ************************************************************************************** came to my property on 02/03/2025 as my tenant called and requested to clean up the sewer pipe. I was out of state and didn't prove the job. He charged $608 (with $50 discount) for a simple sewer cleaning job with a cleanout port. He was clearly trying to take advantage of me as I'm the one that pays the bill but I'm not on-site. The receipt is between my tenant and Roto-Rooter. According to California Contract Law any work performed requires an agreement or contract between the property owner and the service provider. I'd like a partial refund of $300 as he should not proceed the work without my permission.Initial Complaint

Failed to accomplish what they were hired to do, despite taking an inordinate amount of time, likely due to inexperience and lack of skill. Documented their inability to accomplish drain cleaning with photos.Initial Complaint

Date of Transaction: 12/29/24 Amount of Money Paid to Business: $850 Amount of Money Paid to Repair Damages: $1,980 Service: unclogging Kitchen Sink Dispute: Roto-Rooter sent a technician to our house who spent 3 hours using a motorized mainline auger in the wrong clean out pipe, punching a hole through our Primary Shower's cast-iron p-trap. The pipe structure the technician was in had no previous problems, and was not connected to the Kitchen Sink. After turning the shower on, water leaked through the ceiling and out the baseboards of our home. We called Roto-Rooter to send someone out to repair the pipe. To repair the pipe, Roto-Rooter cut 3 holes in our ceiling, and confirmed that they would pay for drywall repairs. They paid for the quote, but did not cover the remaining cost when additional water damage was found by the contractor.Resolution: Their general manager mocked us on a phone call, threatened not to pay us anything, indicating if we filed a complaint it would come back to him, and claiming, incorrectly that there was already cracks in our pipe, evident from mold in the pictures we sent - neither his plumber, his water restoration specialist, nor our contractor mentioned any evidence of mold when they were working on the ceiling. We believe this was an attempt to scare us into backing down.
