I believe that Roto-Rooters charges are excessive and that its offer of a free video inspection is used to aggressively upsell un-needed additional services. Roto-Rooter cleared two blocked toilets in my house for $882. The serviceman couldnt find either of two clear-outs (later found easily by a gardener), spent much time trying to clear a rainwater line, not the blocked sewage line, and left my bathroom floor covered in sewage, which he said he could not clean up. My bigger complaint, however, is with the free follow-on video inspection. A Roto-Rooter serviceman quoted me $5,547.74 to perform a spot repair or $24,454.32 for a full pipe-burst line replacement, both subject to change orders for any unforeseen or additional work needed. When I asked for an inspection report, not proposals to do more work, he provided me with a brief narrative of the condition of the one sewage line, and some still photos, but neither the video nor an explanation of why $30,000 of work was needed. He said that if I didnt get the work done, I could rely on the service warranty of the original work order, but after that the risk of a line failure would be entirely mine.I got another bid from a local plumber who inspected the line, found the root intrusion that was the cause of the original blockage, told me that the line otherwise was in good shape, and proposed to repair the line and to upgrade two clear-outs. I had him do the work for $2,375, a fraction of what Roto-Rooter ********* my view, Roto-Rooters interactions with me reflect aggressive marketing more than fair pricing for needed services. When I asked its local office manager to explain why I should not view its actions as improper, he did not address my particular concerns, but rather stated that Roto-Rooters actions were in line with industry standards. I disagree, and would not recommend Roto-Rooters services to anyone.

Roto rooter preys on elderly, my 91 year old aunt was a victim. She was charged $1893.67 for snaking 2 small drains, toilet handle and new wax ring. The plumber (***** Z) had the nerve to give a senior and military discount to bring the bill down from $2178.67. I called the corporate office to complain but they seem to justify the charges. I finally talked to a supervisor from Seattle office (***** J) he explained they charge a flat rate of $616 per drain, but they do not make that known, the only way to find out is by scheduling a tech to come to your house. Seems like they hide what they charge because they know it is so sky high. They also charged $540 to replace toilet handle and fluidmaster, that was never done. So they did agree to refund that charge. I hope this review saves others from being taken advantage of by so called plumbers. I am a retired union plumber so I understand is going on here. Roto rooter plumbers are paid by commission which means they are encouraged to make each bill as high as possible.

I would highly recommend consumers avoid Roto- rooter ************, their service, professionalism, pricing and customer support are all sub-standard and in some cases down right dishonest. I am baffled that the ****** reviews are so positive and in my opinion this is downright suspect. They will tell you that your insurance will pay for their overpriced service but trust me call your insurance company first and then contact another company.

We are VERY UNHAPPY the way Roto Rooter dealt with us when we called them for a plumber to come and stop a water leak in our crawl space which is partially carpeted. The ** representative was sent before even the plumber came. *****, the ** representative for water mitigation., was very nice and pleasant. But, she had to do what ** has trained her and expected her to do.** HAS TO STOP THIS PRACTICE OF SENDING THE SALES PERSON BEFORE WHAT THEY ARE CALLED FOR. This practice traps the senior citizens and elderly people like us.We didnt even want to involve our insurance. We thought it might cost us about $1500-$2000, to dry the carpet and other things. We have $1000 deductible insurance. We didnt think it was worth involving our insurance. But, ** has trained the sales persons to trap the clients into involving the insurance,so that they can make more money. She assured us that they will work with our insurance company which will take care of all our expenses. They got some paperwork signed by my husband and started the work next morning. The bill to dry small portion of the carpet and floor in the crawl space was outrageous. It was MUCH MUCH higher than what our insurance estimated. We HAVE PAID what insurance gave to us. Now *** in their claims department keeps sending us threatening letters which will intimidate any seniors or old people like us .WE HOPE AND PRAY:NO ONE ELSE BECOMES VICTIM OF **s UNETHICAL AND PREDATORY PRACTICES OF TRAPPING THE CLIENTS, CHARGING OUTRAGEOUS PRICES and THEN SENDING THREATENING and INTIMIDATING LETTERS.OUR RATING IS VERY NEGATIVE FOR ROTO ROOTER,****** *.

We were ripped off by our local Roto-Rooter plumber. The cost of goods were reasonable - but their labor charge was horrendous - at $1000/hr!

We called Roto-Rooter to fix a problem with our sewer. A cap had fallen into the sewer and was causing a blockage. Roto-Rooter did not have a camera to see the problem and proceeded to insert a high-pwered snake with a knife on the end topush the cap through. The knife got stuck in the pipe and the employee of Roto-Rooter said he had to cut off the snake and leave it in the line. We cannot put toilet paper in the toilet as it wiill get stuck on the snake and cause a back-up. We told Roto-Rooter they have to remove the snake. They sent us a bill for $35,000.00 to remove their snake that they inserted. We need help as they will not answer our calls or respond to our attorney letters!!!

I was overcharged for my simple toilet tank repair. The tech Marqui who fixed my toilet basically just replaced a couple of parts, flapper and toilet flushing handle/rod (which both probably run only about $10 each). So I was charged close to $400 just for the labor. Turns out that the flapper didnt even need to be replaced, what a scam! The total cost was $418 for about 30 minutes of labor! Gotta love how they don't break down the pricing, like seriously, how do you come up with $418?Another issue I had was when I brought up the $75 off repair discount, ****** wouldn't honor it and informed me that the reason the discount couldn't be used was that the flapper was replaced, and I wasn't charged for the flapper??Apparently, Roto-Rooter has a history of overcharging customers for unnecessary workhttps://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/roto-rooter-repair-scam-class-action-lawsuit/#:~:text=A%20class%20action%20lawsuit%20filed,replacements%20costing%20thousands%20of%20dollars.*****************************************************************************************************************************, I'm also beginning to wonder if *********************, Customer ********************** Manager, exists -- replied to her over 5 hrs ago about 2 min after ***'s response to my review and STILL waiting to hear back from him!UPDATE -- About 5 min after leaving this last bit of info, I receive a call from *****, Hiring Manager, and he proceeds to tell me that *** only goes through him, not directly with the customer. Anyway, ***** tries telling me that he can honor the $75 off now, after *** posted negative ****** reviews. I get soooo ****** off and I'm like, ****** was supposed to have done that 4 days ago when I had the service done. I actually refuse the $75 refund and I'm like, I'd rather keep my negative reviews up if it helps anyone take their business elsewhere!! AND sadly, ***** didnt even have any idea about the breakdown of $418 and the way in which that amount was determined.

This company chargers two to four times market prices. Does not finish jobs and quotes to repair jobs incorrectly. They are essentially thiefs with their pricing and keep upselling and not giving you the full service you paid for. In my instance I had a drain clog. They charged me $497 to come clear it. Didnt work. Then they said hydrojet required which would cost $1400. I told them that was too expensive. They said would cost $1300. It should cost $600 to $800. They hydrojet the line and diagnosed still some roots in part but wouldnt hydrojet that part of sewer line unless I paid another $1300. In essence I didnt get even what I overpaid for. They are crooks.

Make sure they inform you about their "Service Fee" and get a quote up front. They are sneaky and will do everything to steal your money. Good luck should they ever call you back and if they do they have a CSR call you and they in turn do NOTHING. it has not been over 6 months and still No call back from the General Manager as promised. Again they tried to trick my neighbor into paying $900 to install a toilet (in which he bought and was told it would not work, again the lies they will tell you. but they did not tell him what the Service Fee was and he paid $800.) I wound up paying $2600 ( $1500 for Labor (which is the service fee too). If you look into their background you will see that they have had a class action lawsuit on them for over charging folks. So please use ANYONE else to do your plumbing needs. Again if you want to be overcharged and have no idea is you even have a warranty that is valid than go with this company. Oh before I forget I was told by the tech that he would come back the next day around 9 am... He did not show up till **** and I had to call him to remind him of our appointment. Yup Poor Service, over inflated prices... DO NOT GO Here folks.
