When you're at an emergency veterinary facility you're already stressed and you don't need to face attitude and incompetence, vet was extremely rigid on the alleged rules I made the mistake of telling them that the cat was my girlfriend's. They wouldn't treat the cat unless I got my girlfriend on the phone which fortunately I was able to do. I would have been totally screwed if she'd been at work and inaccessible. The treatment strategy was to demand my commitment to all possible diagnostics instead of treating sequentially and seeing what the initial diagnostic indicated.I expected to be paying more at an emergency clinic than a regular vet as it was 11:00 p.m. I have no problem with that but they should have been as nice as my regular vet. They were largely grubbing for money. This cat had a severe tooth abscess like wound and a great deal of pain was already scheduled for a dental at my vet but this suddenly got worse. I believe their prescribed painkiller gabapentin was inadequate. And when I got the cat home the cat's behavior tended to indicate that the painkiller was inadequate. The next day my regular vet was open a half a day and when reached prescribed A real painkiller which made an almost instant difference in how the cat was apparently feeling and ***** did resume eating. I was surprised to find out that the veterinary clinic was part of a large chain in the holding company situation, I guess vet clinic's are not licensed in ********* only the veterinarians so you can't go to the state and find out who owns or runs they given clinic. There is a real crisis in veterinary medicine not unlike human medicine because most people can't afford regular pet care and only go in when it's an emergency. That's the nature of American capitalism. Keep them poor and keep prices high.Local veterinarians should have more of a conscience and work out a way to have 24 hr emergency services without oholding companies cexploiting the llocals isn't capitalism wwonderful.VCA Animal Hospitals, Inc.

1 starWORSE EXPERIENCE - Our dog had a strange cough and looked like he had something stuck in his throat. Otherwise he was fine, eat his food and was active. We took him to ******************* Animal ********************* on a Saturday night. After the first examination they scared us with words like esophagitis and told us he had stomach issues (never mentioned ************). Scared we agreed to do X-rays and they tried to convince us to do full blood tests (I refused without a proper diagnosis). They came back he had enlarged spleen with dead blood and most likely cancer. We had to wait hours for the specialist to review the x-rays.came back with also a blockage in his intestine, possibly cancer. So two cancer diagnosis (He just had a strange cough and no other symptoms). The mental distress for us and the dog we so high and unexpected. We had to leave the dog there for the night as he had to be in constant liquid. We were also told that if he does not get better he needs surgery. From an healthy dog they made us thing he was dying. When they called the following morning, we got the same diagnosis and that the dog could not come home because the need of constant liquid. Something did not add up. I went to the clinic. Refused to get any more things done to the dog (he was so stressed from all of this). Requested to talk with a Vet. This time the doctor said our dog was not dying and was ok and I could take him home. He coughed and she immediately recognized ************. All of this just for a dog flu that was easily recognized. We left with NOT a single medicine (he had all the vaccinations) and were told it will go away on its own and a huge bill. This is totally unacceptable for the stress that they put us and the dog through. At home, our dog was fine and totally normal. We complained and they refused to acknowledge the misdiagnosis and were VERY RUDE on the phone. NEVER EVER AGAIN WE WILL GO THERE. We had the dog checked by his regular Vet and he was totally fine.Review fromJo Ann R

1 starWe looked very carefully before taking our Aussiedoodle to be spayed but obviously didn't look close enough. To say our experience was horrible would be an understatement. During the prep, they mutilated her chest (maybe dirty and/or old shaving blades?) As a result, our puppy suffered deep cuts and unbelievable suffering from their mistake. The result was weeks of pain, medication (including their overmedicating her), inability to eat - just absolutely MISERABLE. When asked for consideration for their botched surgery we were told since the spay went well there was no damage! NO DAMAGE??? Please do NOT expose your pet to these unscrupulous, greedy (did I mention their fee was TWICE that of others?), uncaring people at VCA. They are there for the MONEY and injured our dog because of their carelessness and bad practices. Stay away - much much better care in town elsewhere..... I sure hope you will take my review along with the many other similar reviews. It is clear that VCA cares nothing for the pets and nothing about the collateral damage caused by their mistakes. The only reason I gave them 1 star is because 0 wasn't an option.Review fromLinda D

1 stardo not recommend this place at all! They don't care about anything but money. I have been trying to get my questions and concerns addressed in regard to my dog's surgery that ************ did. I spoke with the medical director and informed her that I received my dog's records 2 sets and they are not consistent to one another. and documentation in those records are not correct or accurate. I also explained the negligence of the doctor who did the surgery. She stated she would review the records and call me back. She also failed to inform me she was the initial Dr. who seen my dog. She Introduced herself as the director only. I Never received a call back only an email stating she has not had a chance to review them. Due to her being in meetings all day. I expressed how serious this matter is and that it was urgent my dog is really sick and may not make it. Her response was Im sorry about your dog, but I have complete trust in the doctor. So basically, regardless of all the documents and proof I have does not matter. She did not review anything and has come to a conclusion that she completely trust the doctors opinion and judgment. So, if you want to take your pet to a place and hand over your hard-working money. To a hospital that does not go by standard medical procedure or policies only by trust when it comes to complaints and the concerns of patients. Then go there. I to handed over my pet to the doctor and trusted the doctors opinion and relayed on her professional judgement and look where it got me. My dog is slowly dying.Review fromMia C

1 starWe agree with upset reviews here. We don't really make noise but we feel that the safety concerns about this horrific hospital needed to be shared. For pets who have a chance to survive, please take them somewhere else. This is literally the first review I have ever written. My wife is a healthcare worker. We took our dog in who is in compensatory DKA, the MA almost immediately checked our dog's blood sugar 595 mg/dL on arrival. We were initially pleased that they took her in quickly! Then the disservice started to trickle as we painfully listened to our dog bark for 5 straight hours, including after 3 hours it sounded like they moved her to a kennel in the farthest corner of the "emergency room" as her barks sounded farther. All pet parents know their fur babies' barks. The receptionist claimed she was in a "quiet area and stable." I bet our dog was making a lot of noise while her blood sugar shot up some more due to stress! We were told we were #5 to be seen on arrival, then #2... then the lobby emptied on the 5th hour, we waited patiently. At this point, we again asked for an update quietly and we were told we're #6 due to more emergencies (what happened to #2)! Our jaws dropped because the lobby was empty and we never left. DKA is not an emergency for this hospital. We respectfully asked for our dog back and we left at 2am. They asked us to come back at 6am when there are less patients. Very convenient for them and outright very offensive and was a direct disrespect of our time. You can smell the lies and excuses from VCA staff. I hope this review helps other parents' choices for their vulnerable pets, who are totally depended on their decision makers. We saw a lot of 5 star reviews for euthanasia services at VCA (read between the lines, just saying). They are specialists in euthanasia.Review fromDennis N

2 starsMy main complaint is not with the particular VCA location both of my dogs died at, as it is with *** corporate which is very difficult to locate. This business prays on pet owners and the compassion we have for our pets. It is one of the biggest rackets going. Loosing two dogs in 2 months cost my family over **** $ no questions asked. The same stuff my pets went through on their final visits would not have cost nearly the the same in other parts of the country. VCA has their rates set per according to average incomes in the particular area and they really do. Its just ridiculous and should be watched by someone. They know we will pay because we love our pets and they with no doubt take full advantage of that.Review fromMelissa G

1 starWhere do I begin? Max is a german sheppherd we rescued a few years ago. He was unkept and uneutered. We decided to immediately take him in for neuter surgery with Dr Arthur Scherr at VCA. They performed the surgery but the vet mentioned Max only had one testicle, the other was not found. Even though there was a sack for it. 2 months after surgery, Max started having digestive difficulties, started with heavy diarrhea, on and off, constipation, straining and blood in stool.
Other vets would check him and attribute the issues to his prostate or colon. It wasnt until a few years later of max suffering with such Intense straining and 2 bilateral hernias from it that one Miami Beach Vet did in depth Xrays and 2 ultrasounds to confirm, the testicle they left inside max, had been blocking his poop. Causing him strain so hard, so painful for years that he has 2 hernias and lots of issues accompanying it. We contacted VCA with the diagnosis from this Vet, asking for any responsability, they said they would discuss with Dr Scherr and the regional medical team and get back. As they did, they called me, to assure
Me they would not take any financial or medical responsability for Max’s issues.
Max is undergoing Surgery with his new vet plus a specialist surgeon that will put mesh in to repair the damage tomorrow. I have asked for photos of the surgery, testicle removal and ultrasounds of both testicular mass and hernias and I will follow up this post with it. Along with Google, i will make sure it is promoted across the internet. Let’s say, for starters. That is our plan.
There is NO reason, this case should have been dismissed so fast, acknowledging not one ounce of responsability for YEARS of this dog suffering and us paying THOUSANDS to find out why.
stay tuned for follow up.Review fromHeather K

On 11/11/2022, I brought my boyfriend's cat ******** into the **********, **, ******************************** for possible poisoning. The veterinarian that I was working with gave me two options for care at the time; I chose the life-saving option, which was to take ******** to a different hospital that could meet her needs. I was so upset and didn't know what the right plan of action was and began to call my boyfriend (the cat owner) but could not get ahold of him. I went to the front desk and asked them if I could leave to find my boyfriend, knowing where he was but didn't have his phone available to him, before deciding on treatment for ********. The person working at the front desk said of course and let me leave. After finding and consulting with my boyfriend (the cat's owner), he chose to bring the cat home. When I returned to the hospital, they performed two services without consent. The first was a ******************* Plus ********** ($255.75) and IV Catheter Peripheral ($73.70). The veterinarian called my boyfriend to get consent which he did not give and said he wanted the cat to be brought home. After everything I had been through, I was emotionally exhausted and wanted to go home with ********, so I paid the invoice and planned to resolve the issue the next day. I called ************** the next morning at 09:30 am CST and left her a message. Her voicemail states that she will call back in ***** hours. I have since then called six more times, leaving detailed messages, and I have also emailed her. I am at a loss as to how to resolve this issue because ************** will not return my phone calls or emails. I want to speak to someone. At the very least, as a customer, I find this behavior unacceptable. We put our family and beloved pets in your hands. The least you can do is return my phone call.VCA Animal Hospitals, Inc.

On 11/24/22, I took my pup to the ** of VCA Animal Hospital of ******* **. I'll make my review very short. My pup die in their care. Some care. They couldn't care less, that my life has been turned upside down. I can't sleep, I can't work, all I do is cry and scream in pain. My boy should be with me right now, but I can only stare at his ashes. That hospital is awful, I am not going to rest until my pup gets the justice he deserves. I blame myself for his death, but all I am guilty of is picking the wrong place to bring him to. My boys name was **********, and I wont rest till justice is done...VCA Animal Hospitals, Inc.
