On October 26, 2023 I went to TruthFinder to learn what was online about my husband who had died this week. The TruthFinder form on its website would not display the report until I clicked next to add things I did not want. TruthFinder compiles hundreds of millions of available public records from several different data sources. We pay for all of the information we provide. Our billing details are prominently displayed before a customer decides to sign up for our services, and these terms can also be reviewed at any time in our Terms of Service. We do not claim to be a free service. In order to view reports, an active membership is required.
As a courtesy, we have cancelled all memberships and refunded *************************** account back to the payment option used to enroll, and no further charges will be incurred.
Additionally, TruthFinders information is gathered from many public sources including local county courthouses, census bureaus, and other sources of public information. We do not create or add to the information we obtain. While we cannot remove specific records from a report, we do have the option to remove an entire background report from our site. The information obtained from a report is for personal use only.

I wanted a report on myself and had to purchase a subscription to get the report. I purchased subscription ID# ********* for $28.05. After receiving the report, I found it was very inaccurate and didnt include publicly available information. I also ran a report on my son and found the same inaccuracies and missing information. I decided to cancel my subscription. I was then offered a lower priced subscription which I agreed to but cancelled within minutes. I contacted Truthfinder and was told I would get a $28.05 refund but the refund never arrived. I contacted them by phone on 10/13/2023 and was told the refund was sent on 9/29/2023 and I should contact my bank (credit card company). I have NOT received the $28.05 refund as promised and my credit card company says they never received it. I just want my $28.05 refunded.Business Response

I signed up with TruthFinder for 1 search in February 2023. I cancelled the subscription as soon as I received the report. They have been billing me ever since. Each time I saw a bill on my credit card statement, I would go online to make sure that I had cancelled the account. In a conversation with their representative today (10/12/2023), they claim I had 2 accounts and I only cancelled 1 of them. So the 2nd account remained active until today. Depending upon how the accounting was done, it cost me $240-270 over a 9 month period. I have to consider them a scam. The only thing I can think of is when I cancelled the one account, their website enrolled me in another account.I asked about a refund, Their representative thought that was hilarious, and referred me to their legal department.Are there any options?Business Response

About 6 months ago, I googled a name of a past acquaintance, thinking I could get an update on this person, since I haven't seen this person for many, many years. Somehow I ended up on Truthfinder - I provided some information, but decided not to go forward with getting a report. So I stopped. For the past 6 months I receive a half dozen pop messages/day on my computer. The messages do not provide with the opportunity to tell them to stop sending the messages. I am not interested in their service. I have send them numerous e-mails to Truthfinder telling them to stop sending the pop-**** I have now spoke to 4 different people in the last month in their customer service telling them to stop sending me messages. I provide my e-mail address. I am assured each time that they will be stopped. Three times I was told that I would receive an e-mails with instructions on how to stop them. Of course, I have asked why it is necessary for me to take steps to have then stopped when I never requested them. The pop-*** continue - 5-6/day, and I have never received an e-mail. One of the persons I spoke with said they used to be able to stop the messages on their end, but can't anymore. One of the persons I spoke said they would stop them (and didn't say anything about an e-mail). All I know is that I am badgered every day by these pop-**** Please help make them stop.Business Response

The website is misleading. It appears to offer a one-time use for about $27, which I paid for. Then a second billing appeared on my statement the following month. Their claim that terms are clear is belied by the number of similar complaints across the web. The deceptive bait-and-switch is apparently a long-standing issue with this company.
