I signed up for a VIP account in 2012 and used the benefits sparingly until 2019, which is when I made my last purchase and then cancelled my account. I had heard nothing besides marketing emails from road runner sports from that time until tonight, 3/10/2023, when I received an email thanking me for renewing my account, which I did not do. I logged in and saw that I had a credit on my account, which I assumed was from when I was accruing points from previous purchases. I figured I might as well use that credit I had earned and then cancel what I thought was a mistaken renewal. When I called in, I was informed that they had in fact been charging me for renewals since that last purchase in 2019. I told her I needed it cancelled and she went ahead and cancelled and informed me that cancelling the account would also remove all of my benefits, including the credit I had on my account which I had just attempted to use toward a purchase. She stated that the credit wouldnt be applied until the shoes shipped and since the account was cancelled, it wouldnt be applied at all. How have they charged me $200 for the last 4 years with no use of their services after I had attempted to cancel in 2019 and then revoke the $53 credit I had on my account as a punishment for cancelling? I had also not received a single other renewal email despite her telling me that they send 3 renewal emails, 2 prior to and 1 after, for each renewal. Supposedly their tech department is researching my missing emails.Business Response

Records show that ***************** successfully placed an order using the rewards cash she had earned over the last few years on her last purchase placed 3.10.23. Our agent could have done a better job explaining the use of rewards cash upon the cancellation of the membership. ***************** should be able to verify on her credit card statement she was only charged the difference minus the rewards cash for the shoes she purchased. We hope she is enjoying them. We apologize if Ms ******** membership was not cancelled correctly. Were also not sure why Ms ************* would receive the last email surrounding the membership, but no others. ***************** is correct that she has not made a purchase with us since she she had cancelled the membership. Will be happy to make an accommodation to refund the years of membership that were not utilized. 19, 20, 21 x ***** and ***** for 22. ***************** has already been refunded for her 23 renewal. It is not our intent to charge for a membership if it is not being taken advantage of. Moving forward, ***************** would be more than welcome to rejoin as she has an outstanding purchase history with Road Runner Sports. ***************** can rest assure she will not be billed moving forward for the membership unless she chooses to opt back in.

In 2018 I purchased products from Road Runner Sports in ************. The person behind the counter suggested that I join their VIP program. I did so thinking it was a one time fee, never knowing that they would continue to charge my Credit Card for 5 years afterwards, even though I did not make another purchase again, nor did I received any compensation for joining. I was never told this would auto renewal. In fact this practice is illegal under ************ laws. In fact, Road Runner Sports was held liable in a Class Action Lawsuit for auto-renewal practices. According to ***** Act, ************ Auto Renewal Law, "Under ROSCA, if a business charges or attempts to charge any consumer for goods or services online through a negative option, it must: (1) clearly and conspicuously disclose the material terms of the transaction before obtaining billing information; (2) obtain the consumers express informed consent before charging the consumer; and (3) provide simple mechanisms for a consumer to stop recurring charges."Not once did anyone from Road Runner Sports ever contact me about charging my Credit Card, and after 5 years they stole approximately $160 from me, violating the ***** Act/Bill. It was not until I noticed the charge on my paperless/digital bank statements that I was able to stop it by calling Road Runner ***************** When asked, customer service admitted they had my contact information, including my current address. However, I never received a request to charge my Credit Card, which is a stipulation under *****. I never received an option to cancel. The Auto Renewal membership at Road Runner Sports is flagrantly fraud. This is intended to bilk people that might miss seeing the yearly charge on their bank statements. Just read the comments across social media about their VIP program. This VIP program is in direct violation of the ***** Act.Business Response

I previously went into a Road Runner to buy running shoes. The experience was nice. When checking out the salesperson suggested I become a VIP member to save on this purchase and I could cancel the membership later. The in store experience was fine and pleasant. I later have called multiple times to cancel my membership however February my credit card informed me they blocked an attempt to renew the membership. I called Road Runner again, and was informed they previously unclicked 'renew' on their end regarding a membership, however it was not done for the specific store. This allowed for continued charge attempts to my credit card. The call representative said she unclicked it now for the store file to no longer renew. I asked if my credit card information could be deleted and she said it was not possible. I find this to be predatory and manipulative behavior. The call representative was very nice on the phone. This complaint is not related to the character or personality of the staff. In addition I continue to receive email advertisements, even though I've asked to be taken off. Thank you.Business Response

Thank you for the response. I continue to receive emails from Road Runner Sports. I received the last one today (3/13/23) at 8:04 AM. And please do not try to continue charging my credit card for the *** membership as was attempted in February even though I canceled the membership months ago. It appears that the company Road Runner Sports has a business model that hopes consumers just forget to check their statements and chooses to ignore multiple requests. This is time consuming to continually ask and request to not be charged, not be a member, and not be emailed. In addition, please do not patronize me by suggesting this was not properly explained at purchase. Thank you for your time.

I was talked into signing up for their rewards program about a year ago when buying shoes. I tried to cancel before the 1 year deadline and my login no longer worked, and there was no way to password reset (their password reset process didn't work). I called in and the customer support person said they would cancel it for me. They didn't. They charged me for a renewal a few weeks later. Now I have to protest this with my credit card company to get them to take action. Unbelievable waste of time. These people should be out of business.Business Response

I joined Roadrunner Sports "VIP" program in either 2021 or 2022.
Due to lack of resources, I did NOT renew my membership in 6/2022.
I was told by a salesman @ Roadrunner, Shrewsbury, in either Oct. of Nov., 2022, I had $64 in my VIP account, but had to re-enroll in order to use it. At NO point did he inform me the $$ amount would be cancelled if I didn't use it!
I went to possibly make a purchase 1/26/2023, & was told I now have zero dollars in my account.
I would LIKE to see the amount I was quoted, $64, reimbursed.

Records indicate Ms ***** has cancelled her membership in years past after the renewal, recieves full refund and continues to take advantage of our introductory offers. Your rewards cash is issued for loyalty, award or promotional purposes and can be used with other promotions. Your Rewards Cash has no cash value and may not be used anywhere other than Road Runner Sports stores, the Road Runner Sports online store, or over the phones. Rewards Cash is void where prohibited. Membership cancelation details per our website: You may cancel your Membership at any time for any reason. Should you decide to cancel your Membership, the unused portion of your Membership Fee will be prorated and refunded upon cancellation. Should you decide to cancel your Membership, or should you decide not to renew your Membership on its anniversary date, or should it not be possible for Road Runner Sports to automatically renew your Membership on its anniversary date, then any Rewards Cash will continue to be usable until the Expiration Date in your VIP Account, at which point they will all expire. $20 of the $64 Ms ***** is referring to is a Anniversary gift we add if you maintain/keep your membership active. Upon further review of Ms ***** account, it seems there is also an above average amount of exchanges and returns done and we apologize if we're unable to find Ms ***** perfect fit. On January 3, 2023, an unauthorized charge was made on my credit card by RoadRunner Sports. When I called to inquire about the unauthorized charge, I was told that my card was used to renew another persons (my dad) membership for a loyalty program. They explained that because the account holders card had been declined, the system automatically went to the next active credit card on file. My credit was put on file because I had made a purchase approximately six months prior, using that account. However, I did not authorize Roadrunner Sports to store or utilize my credit card information, nor was I informed that my credit card would be used to renew a membership in the event that the account holders credit card was no longer active. This is a clear example of credit fraud and was reported as such to my bank. When I asked three different Roadrunner customer service agents why my credit information had been stored in the first place, the representatives never addressed my question and deflected by stating that it was an automatic process done by their system.Roadrunner Sportss flawed system has affected others besides myself, to include my spouse who was also charged for another persons membership. The BBB website shows reports of other customers who have had similar issues with Roadrunner. This is something that needs to addressed and remedied.Business Response

I unknowing joined the Road Runner Family rewards benefit program in January 2022. Apparently when you order something from them you are automatically signed up. This is a program where they give you 5% back on every purchase. I accumulated $53.17 over the last year. I did not use any of it.There is an automatic renewal on this program. When I noticed the charge of $49 for renewal on my credit card last week I contacted them and asked to cancel and refund my money. They also took away the $53.17 in unused rewards that I accumulated over the past year.I was told that if I had used the $53 in rewards before I called I could use them. But since I cancelled the program I loose the money immediately. This does not make sense since the money was accumulated because I paid them $49 in Jan 2022.Issues- 1. In December 2019, I bought a pair of shoes and was signed up for the annual subscription which auto renews (Member Number: *********). For over 4 years now, I have been charged an annual subscription of $49.99 even though there is no credit card on record on the online portal. When attempting to cancel the subscription, they require you to call to cancel their number without any online way to contact or request the cancellation. When I have called on multiple occasions I get pulled on hold for hours and no agent ever answers. This it is highly unethical and unacceptable to require you to call a phone number that does not have any customer service agents working. Records indicate we have processed the cancelation and are waiting for ******************* to call us with the credit card number so we can complete the ***** prorated refund. 4 years ago i walked into store to buy shoes, after 20 minutes of being forced to be "evaluated" on their walking machine (that I didn't want and expressed several times "i just want one pair of shoes !") They come back with a price (approx $90) and enormous amount of paper work. I said "what's this?"They explained its a membership with a onetime fee of ( $49? can't remember) is said "no way i just want my pair of shoes like in rhe old days when we just bought stuff"They then said "well then the shoes are $145" i got very angry wasting my time as they were way cheaper on line and i was trying to support local business.They said but if you join for $x youll get shoes for $x off plus additional discount (sorry i forget numbers).So i signed paperwork (BIG MISTAKE) found out at the end of the year it was an annual fee (which i certainly did not want and employee said it was one time which lead me to believe they are all in on this scam. I called to get it cancelled. They said they couldn't find me so they cant cancel! After multiple attempts to call back for manger, sudden mystery disconnects, i called credit card to dispute, they said they talked (through their channels) to roadrunner and refunded amount and roadrunner cancelled fraudulent annual billing.Next year, there it was again, when through the same runaround (hours) same thing.Last year it Billed again! Calls calls calls. This year its billed again. I checked Fdic and they sate FCBA investigations of fraudulent billing over $50. Guess how much they bill?$49.99 I am going to *** them for my time as this is clearly a strategic well planned technique to bilk unsuspecting (and in my case, unwilling and lied to just to sign up) customers. We cancelled the credit 2 years ago but they are still able to bill it!Business Response

Road Runner Sports has not offered any sort of lifetime/onetime fee for a membership in over 30 years. We apologize for any confusion and we would not bill you for a membership you are unable to take advantage of.
