1 starI had two transactions through square. The first one went perfectly fine but when the second ******** paid their invoice through **********************, I got an email saying I needed to verify my identity before I could receive the funds. So, I sent the requested information and later got another email saying they needed more information. I sent over the requested information again and then the same day I received another email saying they deactivated my account and would hold any funds for over 2 1/2 months. I contacted ******** service and the agent told me my account was still under review and she would send it to the account ******************** team. The same day I got another email saying that my account had been deactivated and they did not explain why. When I emailed back asking for more information and offered to provide more identification documents and they did not respond. I finally got a hold of their support team and they would not give me any information about why my account was deactivated but told me they would hold my funds for over 2 1/2 months. I would highly recommend using a different service.Review fromRuth S

1 starTERRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICE-UNPROFESSIONAL THIEVERY ZERO STARS!We used square for payment and then, told the account is not verified, after submitting all the required documentation, but square is going to hold the funds for 90 days, and if I want to refund the customer then it is 120 days. Ridiculous, at this point square is taking funds and using them at their discretion for 90 days. My bank account is verified, so I am not understanding why I am waiting in the fundsReview fromKara R

1 starI'm not giving them any stars! I think all who they owe money to should join together and fight for our rights, They are doing people so wrong and getting away with it. We are barely making it and they put a hold on our account. When you call you get no answers and lies. ****** Mood the General Attorney for the state of ******* calls this unfair and deceptive acts. I know off hand there's 4000 people done the same way With no money you can't pay bills and it's a bad time of year to be without power. I'm disabled and my husband is part disable. And they don't care. I agree with so many other people. We should all join together and get what we are owed plus and shut them down!!!!Review fromRamon J

1 starIve been working with square for 3 years last month i provided a transportation service for a family from ************ to *************, I charged them with a credit card square sent me a notification that they needed more information about the transaction and were holding the funds I provided all the information about the transaction and the fund were released i set up to perform the same service when the family were coming back ***** to ************ 2 weeks later , same payment process and again square hold the funds but this time they deactivated my account and didnt give me any clear reason on why , now they are holding the funds for 90 days supposedly and Im not allowed to refund the customer after I explain what happened, had to bother them asking from a refund through their bank and pay me in a different way but the say they can pay me back as soon as they get their back !!! Called several time to customer service and they gave different reasons all the time also made close the bank account to be able to access the money , something that didnt work , no they just keep telling me theres nothing they can do and that I should wait the 90 days to access the fund ! How disrespectful is that to the hard working people out there who has financial responsibilities???Review fromVictoria K

1 starI have been experiencing ongoing issues syncing my Etsy listings to Square. After confirming the issue with ****, I provided ****** C with all requested detailsincluding the Etsy **** name, case number, troubleshooting steps, and screenshotsbut he delayed the process by making excuses and passing me around. As a result, I received vague, unhelpful responses with no resolution. The sync happens through Etsys site, and error messages only appear on Etsys interface. Although **** clearly states that Square handles data export/import, Square repeatedly said their engineers cant diagnose the issue without a screenshot from Square. Since errors only show on ****, capturing such screenshots is impossible and users cant prove internal system issues. Still, Square demands proof, which is unreasonable.I contacted Square again and spoke with Epher, who said my case was escalated to a Developer Success Engineer, but no follow-up occurred. Later, I received an email saying they cant verify my account despite using my registered email and no clear instructions were given. I was repeatedly redirected to generic support channels without a concrete solution. This lack of accountability has severely impacted my business. I urge Square to take responsibility and provide a prompt, actionable resolution. The Etsy-Square sync system has existed since 2018 but remains neglected, harming many sellers while Square deflects blame onto customers.Despite investing significant time and effort, Squares response has been inappropriate, unprofessional, dismissive, and entirely inadequate.Review fromMiguel S

2 starsFrustrated by FALSE information and delays I'm extremely disappointed with Square. Today, I received a completely false statement from one of their representatives when I asked why my funds were being held longer than usual something that has been happening more and more frequently lately.I clearly have official reports showing two transactions processed yesterday one at 5:36 AM and another at 9:06 AM. However, the representative claimed:"YOUR money is not being held by us, as YOU made the transfer after 5 pm local time... YOUR bank does THAT... it's posted for up to 2 business days."This is not only inaccurate but also insulting to anyone who keeps track of their finances. I made the transfers well before 5 PM, so their excuse doesnt add up. It's frustrating and unacceptable to be given misleading responses when asking valid questions about my own money.I expected better from a company handling financial transactions. If Square can't provide transparency and accountability, how are customers supposed to trust ********* of experience: June 19, 2025Review fromSamantha S.

1 starBeware of using Square for your small business. After having been a customer for over 4 years, we verified our business (Family Physician's) and submitted all the correct paperwork, bank statements, business licenses, Drivers license etc. Within 2 hours our account had been deactivated and they will be holding our money for 90 days. Their customer service is horrid and unhelpful. They would not elaborate any further as to why our account had been closed. Their only solution was to open another account. We went ahead and opened another account and for 1 month all went smoothly until they asked us to re-verify our account for the 2 nd time. Again, within 2 hours account deactivated. ********************** are holding our funds once more, for another 90 days. No explanation as to why.Review fromRichard C

1 starI am a small business owner and have been a loyal Square customer/user for several years, conducting a significant amount of business through their platform, always with success. I have been asked on several occasions to provide supporting documentation to keep my account active and have always complied. I recently went into my account to process a payment and I received a message stating: "We are unable to process your payment. We recently reviewed your account and regret to inform you that your Square account has been deactivated." There was no explanation provided regarding what unsupported activity triggered this decision. When I called Square, they were insistent that they had sent an email explaining the deactivation.I have a documented history of all of my email correspondences with Square and at no time did I receive an email from them. I have asked to speak with a manager or supervisor and have been told that they will not speak with any customers whose accounts have been deactivated. This has caused my small business to come to a screeching halt until I can find another CC payment processor. I'd recommend anyone considering SQUARE to quickly search other options as something is very suspicious with their activity. I am hopeful that with other consumers experiencing the same questionable activity, someone has the ability to take a deeper dive and investigate what is actually happening. As a compliant customer, there was absolutely no reason for the deactivation and without Square providing information as to the "why" of their actions, I am starting to suspect they have something to hide. I hope this review helps another business or individual avoid what I and others have experienced. It's not only a poor way Square conducts business, it questionably unethical, unlawful and at the very least, most definitely suspicious.Review fromSeth M

1 starI run legitimate small businesses and used Square to process a customers payment. Despite submitting all required documentation, Square deactivated my account and is now holding my funds for 90 days without cause or recourse.I spoke to a representative (******) who said I would have to wait the full period or refund my customer and collect payment outside of **********************. The funds being held are for services already completed. Squares behavior is unethical and appears to be designed to trap funds for their benefit, potentially earning interest while small businesses suffer.I am requesting the immediate release of my funds and a formal apology. I will continue escalating this through all necessary channels if no resolution is provided.Review fromJean-Philippe G

It will be holding our money for 90 days. This is not the first transaction weve made through them. This is absolutely insanity. They should be shut down.I want to make a formal complaint to the BBB and anybody else who will listen DO NOT USE THIS FOR YOUR SMALL BUSINESS OR ANY BUSINESS NEEDS THEY ARE SCAMMERS WHO DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS
