I am filing a complaint against Yahoo for what I believe to be an unethical and predatory business practice. After being locked out of my Yahoo account, I attempted to use their standard recovery options. Instead of receiving proper support, I was deliberately funneled into a so-called ************************** where I was told I would have to pay a fee simply to recover my own account and reset my password. This is a blatant exploitation of users who are trying to access their personal information.Business Response

I was locked out of my Yahoo account. The phone number they have on file for the two factor authorization is not my phone number, so I am assuming my account has been hacked. Yahoo will only help me if I pay them money for a premium help line and then are not sure they will even get me an account that was hacked.Business Response

4/22/25 my active yahoo mail account that my family has had for several decades was forced without consent or warning 2 Factor Authentication. This account unfortunately has an outdated recovery email so now the account is no longer accessible. This is not an isolated issue, many Yahoo users have been impacted and appears the only way to recover the accounts is to PAY for a SUPPORT SUBSCRIPTION service to recover the account for $5.99 monthly. I wish to work with a Yahoo representative to recover the account.Business Response

I've had a yahoo email account for at least 15+ years. I know my password and do not have access to my alternate email address since its also an aol/ yahoo owned email account that is locked out, asking for the same type of verification. Ive spoken w/ their customer support agent(s) & reluctantly provided both agents front/back of my license & both times I was declined assistance for accessing my email account (neither could provide a reason WHY I was declined) Im reading that many people including myself are running into this issue and its outrageous. *** had & relied on this email account for years. I should be able to access w/ my password. As previously stated: I know my password but I cant access either account to verify because theyre both locked out.Business Response

I want to reset my password for Yahoo, and they want to charge me a fee for this service. I feel I should not pay for this as most people don't pay a fee for this. I cannot reset my password because I have a different phone number, and I cannot receive the code to change my password. I have had this account since I was in elementary school and now, I'm an adult. My yahoo email is ***********************************Business Response

I have had a Yahoo email account since 2005. Recently, without warning, my Yahoo account attached to my iPhone began giving an unable to authenticate error. I had not updated my password or changed any settings. When I went to re-enter my password as prompted, Yahoo stated it was incorrect and directed me to the account recovery page.Unfortunately, the recovery email and phone number linked to the account are outdated, and I no longer have access to them (unsurprising for an account nearly 20 years old). Yahoos system provided no alternative way to verify my identity or regain access to my account unless I paid for their Yahoo Plus Support premium service. This practice is deeply concerning:Yahoo is locking longtime users out of their own accounts without cause. They are refusing to allow recovery unless the user pays for ******* appears ********************** is targeting older accounts, assuming users will no longer have access to outdated recovery methods, forcing them into paid services. This feels like fraudulent and predatory behavior designed to extract payment from users who simply want access to their own data.I am requesting Yahoo:Restore access to my account without requiring payment.Offer free recovery options that do not depend solely on outdated recovery emails/phone numbers.Cease the practice of forcing payment for basic account access.I believe Yahoos current practice violates consumer trust and fair dealing principles, and I request the Better Business Bureaus assistance in resolving this matter.Business Response

Yahoo mail has blocked my account, active over 15 years, claiming I attempted to log in with a different device ( it's the same phone I've had for over a year) and now is requiring me to give them a driver's license number, full name and address and a credit card number to, possibly, regain access to my email account. I have requested a verification code sent to my phone four times, only once was one received, and when entered, was given a message it was invalid. I have also called the number ************** six or more times. The personal that answers refused to provide names, employment status or any other confirmation when ask and repeatedly requested a credit card number, drivers license number, full legal name and at one point, mailing address. To be clear, I did not forget the email address or enter it incorrectly and I entered the correct password repeatedly, I also was attempting access from a normally used device. I see this as hijacking, for one, under international law, felony theft of personal property for two and attempted identity theft. As there are emails to and from US senators, the *******, the Alaska State Governor and from several medical providers being held for ******, their may be further laws being broken by Yahoo. I would like to see Yahoo be charged in federal court for extortion and theft and forced to stop these illegal activities. Thank you. Fyi, I didn't include an email because I can't access it.Business Response
