I received a delivery from Green Chef this morning. The box was insulated and contained ice packs, but it was not at a cold temperature. A package of pork was split open (the meat was out of the package) and liquid from the package was all over the other contents. On further inspection I saw that a package of shrimp (which was not cold at all) was also open and full of frothy liquid that was spilling onto the other contents of the box. I spoke to two different Green Chef agents who both encouraged me to salvage the ingredients and consume the food anyway. There was no concern about food safety or the temperature of the other meats. They did not offer me a refund and attempted to simply give me $24 off a future box. I was shocked at the lack of reaction or concern about the unsafe meat temperature and packaging. This is obviously going to cause food borne illness for somebody.Business Response

Dear bbb I was trying to order some meals using a promo invite I got in the mail WG-DWMRC it was not available so then I go search the web get GREENCHEF200 to save $250 so the prices jumped up to like $20 per meal then it says ok first box $35 so I go ahead then all the rest of the boxes another bait n switched they started going up 45 to 85 and more so I was like where is the savings I've noticed **************** free breakfast for life I am like yeah right that is also a false ad please forward my complaint to Attorney General in that state they are licensed and start working with the **** FCC to go after this type of companies I am tired of the false misleading ads and they just keep ripping off people with over 100K reviews please if the *** checks that out they will quickly force to remove that I need a refundBusiness Response

As we have no account for the complainant, he has made no purchase from us. No monies were paid and no service provided.
We have apologized for any confusion experienced about the promotions referenced in the complaint. The promotion WG-DWMRC is for customers who are REACTIVATING an existing account and the promo ***************************** is a code given by an affiliate marketer. For example, if one were to search "Green Chef Coupon" in ******* many sites offering coupons are listed. Clicking on one of these offers will take you to to the Green Chef site and show you clearly what the promotion provides. Attached is a screenshot of what is shown when this promotional lead is followed. The breakdown of the promotion and cost to the customer is clear.Furthermore, a link to "Help & FAQ" is at the bottom of the site. From this reach our ************* team can be contacted. This team is available to answer questions and clarify any confusion with promotions.
The complainant has also filed a duplicate complaint about our sister company, EveryPlate. The complaint number is 20634642. We do not have an account for the complainant with EveryPlate.

They improperly charged me for a plan I canceled. I created an account and then decided not to order and canceled my plan and order immediately (both on 9/17/2023). When I checked my credit card statement I was still charged for the meal. Apparently the cancellation did not process and I called to try and cancel the order as well, but they said it was too late too. While the plan ended up getting canceled, the meal order didn't and I received a charge for meals I did not order, nor wanted ordered. Improper charges seem to be a recurring issue with this company as many other complaints are regarding this in some form.Business Response

This was a horrible experience from the moment I signed up all 90 minutes of it Terribly high caloric meals, I canceled immediately. The app was not user friendly. The worst Ive seen. What made the experience worse, was the horrid HORRID customer service. All I wanted was a refund as they decided to send the meals out anyway. I was met with sarcasm, spoken to condescendingly from 2 different people. Both had the same attitude. I was told to use this as a learning experience and deal with it. I want my money back! And would never EVER recommend this company to anyone. Ive never written to the BBB until today. It was that bad from beginning to end. The money isnt the issue, its principle. Im guessing these customer service reps have this attitude as they must deal with unsatisfied customers on the regular. Just awful.Business Response

On 08/25/2023, a delivery driver dropped off 9 boxes from Green Chef I did not order. I immediately called them and told them I didnt even know the company that I want to reject the delivery and get a refund since they charged my account 3 times $114.96, for a total of $344.88. They told me they cant take the food back since it is food and they are not allowed, that they will close the suspicious accounts and refund the money. I called my credit card and reported those transactions. To this day 09/16/2023 no refund was made, and the information they provided to my credit card company made them make the decision that this was not fraudulent. I am livid because I am nos supposed to pay for something I didnt order, I asked how to return it and they said no, so I gave away the food because it is something I didnt even like. This company has been reported several times from what I can tell on this page, this needs to stop. If Im not refunded my money I will proceed to ****Business Response

I had signed up for Green Chef a few months ago after seeing you could choose your own boxes based on dietary need (allergies and preferences). I am allergic to gluten, cow dairy, onion, and sulfites. I am also a pescatarian and do not eat any land animals or birds. I had paused my boxes for the foreseeable future due to financial hardship. Typically customers will receive emails that there is an upcoming box to select meals for with a cutoff to do so or pause. There are email notifications options on the website which I have double checked were turned on. The *** OF the delivery I received an email that my package is on the way. I checked both my email inbox associated with the account and my spam folder and I had not received any prior communications that a box was upcoming for me to select my meals nor that my card had been charged 5 days ago. I called customer service to cancel the order as I cannot risk eating food with allergens and I was immediately told that they could not cancel it or refund me. I asked to speak with a supervisor and I was told none was available. I then requested to cancel my account to which they responded by "deactivating" it instead. I was never sent a receipt and I cannot even view what had been sent to me in my past orders on the site. I have been forced to dispute the unauthorized charge with my bank account and which inadvertently cancelled my debit card which has been really inconvenient as I now have to set up auto pay for all my bills again risking late payments while I wait for a new card. Your company needs to notify customers of orders before they are shipped out as advertised and also provide detailed receipts which I have yet to receive either. This sort of negligence hurts consumers. Not looking forward to opening that unauthorized order potentially full of allergens but I imagine the box might be too large to fit directly into my trash without breaking it down...Business Response

I was reviewing the website to see what they offer for food choices and cost. I was not able to view any choices until I entered in my credentials and credit card info. At this point there was no submit button of any kind. once they choose the meals they would send me and after trying to edit the selections I decided I was not interested and seen nothing that would interest me. So I decided to cancel the subscription/ deactivate it. It was shown it was canceled and received an email confirming that. Two days later I seen that they indeed charged my account. How can they charge my account when I never submitted an order to go through? I called the company and was told that they needed to speak to there supervisor. I was placed on hold with it being recorded for 15 minutes. They hung up the phone call. I called back and was put on hold again and still was waiting and the call was hung up again by there end. I am complaining and want to be refunded my money back for not even ordering . I believe this is a scam. I have received no help by the company end or any answers, just being hung up on during being on hold.Business Response

On August 16th of this year I signed up for GreenChef with an advertisement of getting free meals. I was able to pick out my meals, and the first box was delivered. I did not wish to sign up for recurring or subscription boxes, only the original one that was heavily discounted as a sign-up bonus. I havent heard from Green Chef or recieved any correspondence about any more boxes coming through my account, until today I recieve a message from a second-party shipping company to alert me for my Green Chef delivery. I was confused, given I did not want or want to pay for another box. When I finally open my Green Chef app, all of my meals have apparently been chosen for me, paid for, and shipped. My credit card has been charged $95.19 for something I did not want, order, or pick out. Ive been told by customer service that since it shipped, theres nothing they can do for me. I do not find this fair practice, as I only even knew that I would be recieving a box until the shipping company alerted me, not even the actual company Green Chef!!! I only knew this is coming because of a shipping alert. That is extremely unfair especially for something so expensive, that I did not want in the first place. I would be happy to not recieve this box, and have my entire account shut down with Green Chef. I dont want this box, also because I had no alert to choose my meals and its ended up being things I do not like and wouldnt eat.Business Response

Order the trial offer 1st time. Got 3 different dinner plates for a week (4 of each 12 total). Didn't like the way it works and cancel account. They still charge me for the next delivery about $150 based on their policy of 5 days prior delivery. I got my 1st order last Wednesday, 3 dinners to try ends by Saturday. Cancel next delivery via web side on Sunday. Sunday their costumer service closed. This Monday is Labor Day - closed. Today is Tuesday and I called cs to stop next delivery and refund me for the next order. The answer was NO, as per their 5 Day policy. So, they're making you pay ether way like it or not. Now, let's do the math. Week has 7 Days and 3 dinners require 3 days to try. Already out of cancelation time. Scam to get your money? I guess yes and fraud for a big corporation like Green Chef. Why nobody stop them before I do not know, but that is ridiculous. I'd like them to stop deliveries and refund my 2nd delivery which I do not wish to order, please. On 8/26 I signed up for GreenChef for the initial box. I have signed up for meal box services before so I carefully checked I was only signed up for the first box. I did not enjoy my first box, so I wasn't planning to order any more and was planning to come back and cancel the entire membership.Late in the evening of 9/2 I saw that my credit card had been charged $133.51. I never received any email either to pick my meals or to tell me another box was coming. On 9/3 as soon as I got up I engaged via chat but was told that it was too late and nothing could be done.I did not want this second box. I did not sign up for the second box. I carefully checked my account to make sure I wasn't signed up for the second box. I did not receive any emails about the second box. And doubly because I didn't choose my meals it is not food I would eat. I would like a refund of this second box. I am happy to not receive this box.Business Response
