Absolute worst company to use for your 401k. My husband and I are experiencing a major hardship where our home is being forced to sell and its been nothing but pulling teeth trying to get our money withdrawn from our account so that we can save our home from being sold. Weve provided foreclosure paperwork weve provided email information weve provided invoice everything has been provided and they keep kicking it back saying that the paperwork is old when it is the exact paperwork that the court has on file for us. This company does not care about anybody they just want to take your money in addition, their customer service is absolutely horrible. They show no care towards any person. I dont know where I need to go with this information but its to the point where I feel like they should be sued for how they miss treat people with the information that they provide to try to get their own money out. Im so upset and a response that someone from the company is going to reach out to you like theyve done to every other person on here. I doubt will likely happen, given the fact that I called today and escalated and was told that a supervisor would be reaching out to me before the end of business day 7 PM Eastern and it is now 7:09 PM Eastern and I did not receive a phone call. False information is provided. All calls are recorded for quality assurance and training it was said on the line. Absolutely ridiculous.Empower Retirement

Absolute garbage. Employers, don't do this to your employees. Hold times and communication are a joke. I have lost 10 hours in one week. They also treat hardship withdrawal customers like criminals trying to steal their own money. They will delay you, until you have lost more money in wages on the phone with them, than you will get from a loan or withdrawal. They intentionally put you in a awful game of phone tag. They will email you daily and ask you to call them. Only to find out that the hold time is never under 1 hour. Then they ask you a simple 1 minute question that they could have called with or emailed you about. After all of this, it's been two weeks and they just text me this morning that they received my withdrawal request. Their system, says today, but it was submitted 2 weeks ago. All paperwork was approved. The only thing I can think of is that they are holding it until the holiday weekend. Holding all of our money for an extra week or two, must net them a pretty *****. What they do to you is probably worse than Chinese torcher. You get mixed messages every time and there are no supervisors that work there. I am appalled at how this company can treat people while they hold our money. I pray they get investigated and shut down or class action lawsuit. There is no doubt in my mind that something shady is happening here. Insert generic message about how they supposedly care (below). You guys have caused me more stress than the money I took out can alleviate. That is just sad, but true. Just stop doing this to people and fix it, today! I bet I don't have a dime until next week (which will be week 3) My girlfriend took her money from another company and had it in 4 days. How does this take you guys 3 weeks and 15 phone calls, all over an hour?Empower Retirement

Worst customer service. I was asked to verify my account then was asked to provide mailing address which I did. I was told that address is not listed yet it the same address they keep sending mail to. A lady by the name of **** was the worst not to mention she had such a thick accent I was having a hard time understanding her. My experience with Empower had been horrible. Do not do business with this company absolutely the WORST!Empower Retirement

Empower has the worst customer service ever. Since the ********************** merged with *********** they have had a lot of difficult difficulties that the representatives will tell you are common. However Empower will not take the time to fix the problem buyer. Beware, if you took a loan out on your 401(k) and Empower now owns it and you were previously with *********** They are going to make you pay that loan over and over again until you either quit your job or go bankrupt. My final loan payment was supposed to be March 1 because the company I currently decided to work for pays us three day early. They took my loan payment and put it in as a contribution. Which if you look at my history I have never made that large of contribution in my life to my 401(k), they will not see this as an issue and will not correct the problem but insist upon taking more more money out of my paycheck. The way I get paid and the way they want to get paid do not match up therefore, this loan would be eternal. To add insult to injury when you call there they have the rudest customer service people who dont listen and automatically assume you are wrong. I was lucky to find one helpful person after speaking to numerous people. There are much better options out there and I have found them and as soon as I get my money that is where Im going.Empower Retirement

I had to give them a star. Thats the only reason they have one. So I called this evening hoping to get two questions answered about my acct. I had to request a call back because they said the wait was over 30 mins. It took them FOUR HOURS to call me back. By this time Im literally in bed sleep. The woman is snickering, cutting me off, being rude. She places me on ANOTHER hold for over 10 mins. She never came back to the phone and I finally hung up. What a ******* joke of a company. I see why they have all 1 star reviews. Im really scared and disappointed my company is using these people with my retirement fund. Terrified.Empower Retirement

Got transferred to customer service and wouldn't you know it the woman barely spoke English. No matter how many times I told her I couldn't understand anything she was say, she would laugh and keep talking. After the phone call I get a text with directions at their site. There's nothing even close to what the text says on their site. I get another text saying a withdrawal was mailed and allow up to 5 days. I'm still waiting. I've dealt with them before at my former employer and thought they were a little shady, now I'm convinced they are.Empower Retirement
