1 starI was in a wreck in Dec 2023. I have been with the Hartford 4 years. I'm 53 and I have never had ticket or wreck. The other party was at fault. They have sent email stating I will get my 1000 to be sent another email 5 min later saying they can't. THEN raise my payments 160 dollars. My policy end 4/28 /24 And I'm leaving and going to progressive where I get home and full coverage for 130 a month, not 268 FOR AUTO ONLY. This is supposed to help us on a fixed income. I will also be contacting the AARP SINCE THEY SAY USE YALL. . You don't deserve a 1 star. That's lying you deserve 000 stars. Customer service are clueless and rude.Review from

1 starDo NOT do with business with this company. You will regret it.
I regretted purchasing business owner's insurance from them almost immediately. My broker recommended them so I gave it a try. I prepaid for annual insurance. Every time I would log into their portal, there would be this little charge of $20 or $30 that I "owed" with no explanation whatsoever. When I renewed, they made me pay it. So, I complained to my broker and decided I would NOT renew again.
So, I didn't renew last September with them because again there was another little unexplained charge on my account. I just gave up and decided to move my business. I never heard from The Hartford again.
Fast forward to February, I receive a random email from a collection agency representing the Hartford. After I had chosen not to renew, the Hartford decided to do a "audit" of my business without any involvement from me. In this "audit", they decided that my business had grown by 40% in 1 year!! So, the premium I had pre-paid for the year that ended last September was now insufficient and I "owe" them 40% more than the premium I originally paid in full upfront. There was NO communication with me whatsoever. They just turned me over to a collection agency for a random fee that they determined based on "their estimations" without any involvement from me.
This company is morally bankrupt and horrible. Thank God I never had to file a claim!! Who knows what they would have done. My broker said they will harass me until I pay them an additional 40% in premium for the last year I had their insurance. They are so dishonest it is unbelievable.
Who ever heard of paying a bill in full upfront and then being told 6 months after the insurance ended that they changed their mind and now you owe 40% more than what they told you on the front with never a claim or anything.
The Hartford has lost my business forever. They are a dishonest company doing bad business. Avoid them if you want any peace of mind.Review fromCharles M

1 starAge discrimination by Hartford is unacceptable. We are 14-year customers of Hartford for both auto and homeowner insurance. Wo owned three vehicles that were insured by Harford with two drivers, myself and my wife. The third vehicle is a small convertible for summer fun. We sold one of the vehicles, a 2012 Toyota Venza, leaving us with two vehicles. When I called Hartford to remove the Venza, they recalculated our annual premium. With all three vehicles we were paying $1697 per year. We are both excellent drivers, 73 and 72 years young, no accidents and no violations. Our credit score is 850. Hartford recalculated our premiums and arrived at an annual premium of $2145 per year. So we removed the 2012 Toyota and our premium increased $448 per year. The agent on the phone indicated this was the cost of doing business. Clearly the only other variable is our age. If AARP Hartford does not want to insure Senior Citizens, you should avoid discriminating against us. I see the customer rating for Hartford in 1.09/5. I wonder what good leaving this review really does?Review fromRon S

1 starStealing is not acceptable, even if you are a company.
My auto insurance was increase from $83/ month to
$183/ month.
I was buying a Hyundai which was vandalized twice, not my fault.
So, I bought a new car to prevent more vandalism and the rate was
increased to $388/month.
When I cancelled the policy, they still withdrew an automatic payment with
policy cancelled and stop payment put on withdrawal.
For a month, I was ping-ponged between my bank and Hartford for a refund.
When the new insurance, which was $181, and the unauthorized, stop paymented,
and cancelled Hartford, both were taken out, it threw me into overdraft, charge and
daily charges.
The bank deleted the charges but would not take responsibility because " could take up
to 3 business days for stop payment". And they said Hartford withdrawal was for $183 not $388
But let it go through.
The Hartford said the increase was for buying a new car. Policy had been paid. The $388 would have been for the current month, but the policy was not renewed, and cancelled. They finally returned all but $90 which they said was for the prior month increase for the new vehicle.
So, basically, I was penalized for crimes which were not my fault with rate increases. Then, had money basically stolen, because of processing issues with timely stop payment and policy cancellation. But there was no problem deducting payments at all. Very prompt with that, I must say.
I was a loyal customer with my auto company, my bank, and my auto insurance. Always made timely payments and was rewarded with abuse. Customers are only a source of money, there
is no humanity left, really. Just because you are a big company, doesn't mean that you don't have to do the right thing. Stealing is still stealing.Review fromRebecca P

1 starAfter two days of trying to change my address on my renters insurance policy, I have given up. I have spoken to multiple customer service people, all have transferred me to "someone who can rewrite your policy" and then I've left on hold for 10-15 minutes before hanging up. I would like to cancel my policy because of this but guess what?! I need to call! I have never had this much trouble with an insurance provider in trying to resolve a simple issue. My policy is paid for the year and now I have to play phone tag to get my money refunded.Review fromSteve K

1 starMy wife paid premiums for 18 yrs for long term disability. She has had 3 strokes and has permanent brain damage. This company has tried everything that they can to not pay her claim.
They say that there is no proof of her disability.
She has had a double arterial bypass of the brain, and had a stroke in the recovery room. She reads at a second grade level. She used to manage a supercenter. 600 associates. She can't make change.
The Hartford has harassed us and even cut her pay at one time.
They now, after 14 years has required us to see an independent neurologist to verify that she is still disabled.
DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!Review fromDanielle B

1 starI have had nothing but problems trying to get paid for my maternity leave. I had my baby Jan. 2, 2024 and today is March 8, 2024 and I still have not been paid short-term disability maternity or Paid Family Leave. They do not followup, they keep sending same forms to be filled out over and over that have already been filled out and turned in several times. The portal continues to just say the status is in claim review. I have received no help with this even though I've spoken to multiple reps. I have also filed a complaint with the hartford.Review frommarian l

1 starI have auto insurance with **** through Hartford. I have had no accidents since switching. I left my prior agent and insurance because of the significantly lower Hartford premium. The Hartford policy renews every 6 months, and much to my dismay, the premium goes up every 6 months. I have the Trulane app which constantly needs to be reinstalled. I have done the safe driver class again. My car was sideswiped i a parking lot. I came out to find the R front fender damaged. I paid for it myself so the insurance wouldn't go up. Yet it did again by over $200.00. Customer service rep said only reason it went up was because of overall increases on everyone's police. My premium is now higher than two friends' policies who have different companies. I feel that starting out with such a low premium quoted is some sort of bait and switch deal. The rep also told me that they review every 6 months because of Covid. What? Still? The biggest frustration is that this insurance was taken out through ****Review fromNate M

1 starThe Hartford is absolutely awful when it comes to a Hospital indemnity claim. I was in the Hospital for 36 hours between 11/30/23 and 12/1/23 and it is now 2/26/24 without any payment on the claim. The forms a person has to fill out is confusing, then after 1 month I called and was told I needed to submit additional information which I did. I then waited until Jan. 22, 2024 and called again and was told that I needed to wait a week to 10 days. Well, that got me nowhere. then I get a notice in the mail the first week of February stating that I needed to submit MORE paperwork, within 21 days, with time stamps for admitting and discharge from the hospital. so that was sent both via email and hard copy on the 12th if Feb. 2024.. I have not heard anything from them. They have my email, my phone # and my address.
This is an insurance policy that is supposed to help pay deducible and expenses if you are hospitalized, and now 90 days later. I am still fighting for the benefit I have paid to retain.
