Beware of AARP Awards. On May 22, 2023, purchased four Princess Cruise Line gift cards from AARP for $1800. Three if the four cards worked/were redeemed but one had a zero balance and read insufficient funds. I contacted them immediately and they had been "working on it" ever since. Meanwhile, I'm out $450.AARP

SCAM while posing as my best friend. But just think couples, you can buy one get one free on the membership. What a deal -- unless you're single and you can buy one pay for two. Excuse me?
And on it goes....AARP

Dear Bobbie,
Thank you for your many years as an active AARP member and for your comment.
AARP membership provides for a secondary membership for another individual in a household (living at the same address) at no additional charge. This can be a spouse, partner, other family member, friend, caregiver, etc. In many instances, we have mother/daughter, siblings and those caring for (or in the care of) another taking advantage of this added benefit. That said, there is still only one copy of AARP publications sent to a particular address under a membership.
We appreciate your past and continued support.
Sincerely,
Bruce

Dear Mr. H*****,
Thank you for your active AARP membership and for your comments.
I see that you spoke with an AARP representative on April 27. The agent processed your request to suppress solicitations/mailings from AARP and our affiliated service providers. As some of these mailings are prepared ahead of their distribution date, it may take up to 12 weeks for this request to filter through our database and those of our service providers. We appreciate your patience and understanding --- as well as your past and continued support.
Sincerely,
Bruce

In the meantime, my inbox is full of AARP trash, my mailbox is full of AARP trash, and I want nothing to do with it.....but I will TELL EVERY PERSON I MEET TO AVOID SCAMMING SPAM AARP AND NEVER EVER JOIN, NOR LET YOUR ELDERLY PARENTS JOIN. Dear Ms. F*******,
AARP provides members the ability to control their communication preferences. This is easily accomplished on the "My Account" section of our website, www.aarp.org.
I see that you successfully cancelled your AARP membership on May 6, and a full refund was processed. I have ensured that the email address we have on file is opted-out from receiving future emails and I have suppressed your name and address from receiving mailings sent to you from AARP and our affiliated service providers. As some of these mailings are prepared ahead of their distribution date, this request may take up to 12 weeks.
We are sorry to see you go and hope that you will reconsider the benefits of AARP membership in the future.
Sincerely,,
Bruce

Why AARP is a not-for-profit organization is beyond belief. They receive hundreds of millions of dollars in kickbacks from insurance companies. I’m contacting my elected Federal officials to urge them to investigate.AARP

Thank you for contacting AARP through the Better Business Bureau comment section. We have received your complaint. Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. Providers pay a royalty fee to AARP for the use of its intellectual property. These fees are used for the general purposes of AARP. AARP's Consolidated Financial Statements are produced annually and can be located on ************. Thank you!Review fromDan H.

I purchased 1-$500 carnival gift card, 2-$100 cards. Cashed the $500 and 1 -$100 one
Second $100 card would not work and would never go through after many days if contacting AARP, only to be told it had a zero balance
ONLY PLACE IT CAN BE USED IS CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES, but AARP incest it is zero and will not refund or issue new card.
I finally told them to refund my membership because they would not honor the card.
Still have not done anything about the gift card and I'm out $90AARP

Dear Mr. H*****,
Thank you for contacting us about the issue with your Carnival cruise gift card purchase through AARP Rewards.
We previously wrote to you on April 26. The Carnival Cruise gift card in question was redeemed on 4/6/23 for a cruise sailing on 10/21/23. We have previously provided you the booking number for that cruise.
AARP does not have access to any further information regarding the gift card due to customer privacy concerns. Please contact Carnival Cruises directly, and ask for the booking department to confirm they have record it was applied to your reservation.
Per your request, we cancelled your AARP membership and refunded the $43 to the credit card on file.
Thank you again for your comment.Dan H.

AARP hijacked my health care through devious practices! I would recommend that all seniors check their affiliations because AARP seeks to represent seniors before Congress and the Senate. The way that they do this is through numbers! |n order to get those numbers they use a variety of methods! They spam you through emails, they advertise on many media platforms! They somehow are able to get your information in these ways! They got my information and without my knowledge they signed me up to a new health plan and even went so far as to disenroll me from my San Francisco Retiree's Health Care System and enroll me as an AARP client.
Then AARP claims that they are not a health insurer and that makes it next to impossible to disenroll from what they sign you up for!!
BEWARE OF AARP!AARP

Absolute useless organization. Exists for no other reason than to send constant never ending junk mail to my house. Will not stop even when expressly asked to be removed from lists. I wish I could rate 0 stars.AARP

Hello Mr. G******,
I am sorry that you are having such a frustrating experience trying to stop the mail from AARP. I would be happy to assist you in getting this resolved once and for all.
If you can please email us at ********************* with the full name and mailing address where the unwanted mail is being sent, I will then take the necessary steps to resolve this for you.
If you by chance have any of the mailings available still and can send a picture or scan of the item that will help me pinpoint the source and stop the mail more efficiently.
Again, I do apologize for the inconvenience.Review fromApril S

Do NOT sign up. You will be put on every spam call list, every junk mailing list, and all the spam callers or robots or foreigners. I don't believe there are any low level American elderly workers on their payroll.
They don't help you save if you live in a small town or if you don't plan to go on a cruise or world travels.
DO NOT DO IT, ITS ALL SPAM!!!!AARP

We apologize for your previous experience with AARP. When researching your profile, I noticed you had never opted out of receiving mailings from AARP and our affiliated partners. Opting out of mailings can be achieved by calling AARP directly or by submitting a request online via our website; a link to “Your Privacy Choices” can be found at the bottom of each page on aarp.org. Regarding member benefits, we offer a wide range of savings opportunities, which can be found online and which you would have received as part of your “Welcome Kit.” To address your concerns, I have blocked you from receiving mailings from AARP and added your phone number to our Do Not Call list. I will be sending you additional information in an email, following which I will deactivate your email address with AARP.Review fromLuigina S

AARP completely sucks!!
After being a member for 24+ years and paying 5 years (present subscription ends in 2026), we called AARP to take advantage of their free gift only to be told we were ineligible for it unless we wanted to pay for 1 additional year. So, had we not we paid 5 years in advance we would have been eligible for their pathetic free gift but given they already pocketed our money until 2026, they asked us to pay for one additional year before sending it to us. They are extortionists on top of it all. BEWARE...stay away, their information is stale and definitely not worth the money. Especially when they treat loyal long standing paying customers like garbage. We are canceling our subscription.AARP

Dear Ms. S********,
We appreciate your past and continued support. I listened to the phone call you made yesterday with an AARP representative and supervisor. I believe they were not clear enough in explaining that you received a renewal premium (a 5-port charging hub) when you made your previous renewal payment in August 2021. We appreciate our longtime AARP members and I will be reaching out to you personally, through the email you provided here.
Sincerely,
Bruce
