      Recently my friends and I attempted an Amtrak roundtrip from KC to San Diego. It was an extremely unpleasant experience. Not only were we unexpectedly told we were not allowed in the dining car due to CoVid (only the sleeper car passengers were) minutes after being awoken from our uncomfortable seats with an announcement telling us breakfast was served, but we weren't afforded pillows or blankets for our 2-night trip one way (no sleeper cars were even left when I booked). The train stopped after 12 hours so we could wait for the new conductor to be taxied in which took about half an hour (how they didn’t realize ahead of time they would need a replacement, I’d like to know). The train was going so slowly, a rabbit could have kept pace, and with how miserable the trip was panning out to be, at some point we gave up entirely on our destination and asked to be dropped off at the next town. The conductor rolled right on by even as we pressed every alarm button we could find. Finally, we had to physically locate someone in the dining car who then located the conductor. He acted cocky, smirking when we tried to explain what happened, and took no responsibility for our plight. He brushed us off, saying we weren’t waiting in the ‘designated car’ to alight (???). We ended up having to wait another hour to get off at the next stop and weren't even offered a taxi ride back so we had to pay for our own. Altogether, it was the worst vacation nightmare of my life so far. I would HIGHLY warn anyone considering taking a train in the States. Apparently, Amtrak is quite a monopoly, and poor customer service is what happens when there’s no competition. I did give them one last chance to redeem themselves by filing for a refund request and were told that was their normal operating procedures. My word.

      This is what I've emailed corporate. I want my money refunded or reissued via an e-voucher!
      Hello,
      My name is Tracy Taylor.
      I would like to speak to someone in regards to the illegal and improper use of my voucher. I have not been given proper customer service care nor the relations department have been of any assistance of any kind. Not only did Amtrak allow some entity to use my voucher, they then reissued me a new voucher because they knew it was an error on their end but then allowed some entity to cancel my upcoming trip which is shown in this email but then reissued another voucher to a different email than what was provided to them to book this trip! Thus allowing that person to then have the availability to use it for another trip!!
      I am highly disgusted and dissatisfied with Amtrak's lack of performance in resolving this ongoing issue! Please call me so we can get this rectified. I have been on hold of upwards of close to 2 hrs every time I call Amtrak. This is completely unacceptable! I have been very satisfied up to this point and am no longer interested in Amtrak services after this is resolved. I will be leaving a review and going to the BBB if it remains unresolved.

      First amtrak experience = the absolute worst experience
      1st we were guaranteed the trains could accommodate the needs of my 2 special needs children as far as a safe private space to be changed , I had to change my 7 year old and my 2 year old at our seats or lay them on the dirty amtrak bathroom floor . The changing table in the train is big enough for an infant it literally flips down over the toilet which in itself is very unsanitary. DO NOT STATE YOU CAN ACCOMODATE ALL INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES WHEN YOU CLEARLY CAN NOT!
      2. Both of my children had their own tickets yet because a train was stated to be at full compacity before even boarding we were told would have to sit on our lap in which they enforced on the train regardless of having own ticket my son was listed on the destination ticket placed by the above head luggage storage as an infant. He is not an infant he is just a small disabled child and he was required to have a purchased ticket therefore all tickets should have been honored.
      3. There was an electrical fire in the dining car so the snack car would not serve anyone that did not have a sleeper car ticket. You do not get to pick and choose whom you serve food to when it is supposed to be available to all riders. Luckily a nice lady who was in a sleeper car at the snack cart getting her food did not agree with the restriction and offered her drinks to my children in which she should not have to do.
      4th. Our returning train was 11.5 hours delayed causing us to miss our connecting train back home. Once we arrived at the connecting station at 4am we were guaranteed we would leave that evening at the same time as our original departure time. When they printed our new tickets our time was changed to 3 hours later. Spoke to multiple people within the station who repeatedly told us there was nothing they could do the earlier train was fully booked.
      Fully booked yet you could still book tickets online for that exact train.

      My younger sister reserved a round trip ticket from Kissimmee, Florida to Moynihan-New York Station. Upon boarding the train that is when the nightmare started. I gave the porter my ticket and the square on the reservation did not work. I told him that my sister made the reservation with her credit card and he basically treated me like I was stupid, he was then pushed by another porter, and then started to yell at the lady across of me and my boyfriend, she had two small children that needed a baby carriage. He told her that she had to get rid of the baby carriage because it was in the overhead area. He then took the baby carriage some other location.
      Then the train was delayed in Sanford, Florida for about two hours (probably on a beer run for the train, who knows). During the trip I was in fear of not getting to my destination, until 11 pm I was told my situation was resolved, but that was not true. We finally got to the Moynihan-New York Station FIVE hours late, so I had to get a reservation for a hotel room.
      The return trip was a WINNER as well, I went to the main ticket purchasing windows at Moynihan-New York Station and asked the person if the ticket was good and she said yes. So I got on the train and HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH THE STUPID TICKET. This time the porters acted a bit different but pushed the ticket through so I can travel. Almost the end of the trip the ticket was checked again and then they took me to the dining car to talk to another conductor. On the way back I told the porter, I hate planes but I am taking one the next trip I take. The conductor was polite but I told him I had issues with this round trip ticket the whole time, I ran into some rude people on the travels both to and from just on this train. He promised me that this would be the last time anyone would question this ticket, and this time he was right. The train sucked, delayed, and rude employees.
      The train was cold and another car was hot.

      Horrible. Was slow was delayed and after the delay was still a 10hour ride from grand junction to Denver. I'll never take them again I assure you that

      They overbooked our train and put 60 people on a bus instead, 5 hours after our departure time. Can not get any help from customer service.

      My husband and I were going to celebrate our 50th wedding Anniversary with an Amtrak vacation. Trip was from Pgh to Seattle then down to San Francisco and back to Pgh .
      We placed our reservation and paid for it and purchase travel ins. In Feb 2022.
      The remainder of trip was paid in full.April 5,2022. Departure was to be July 2, 2022.And June 17 we were notified by AAA agent that Amtrak Vacations had pulled a car and there would not be a “room” on the train but they “grabbed us a “roomette”. and refund us$823.
      I asked what other option we had, there was none. Because of Physical, medical and age a roomette we could not consider. We never spoke to anyone from Amtrak Vacations, but also we had NEVER RECEIVED ANY OF OUR DOCUMENTS THAT WE WERE SUPPOSE TO GET PRIOR TO OUR TRIP
      I told our AAA rep we could not do the trip. I feel Amtrak Vacations may have overbooked or it is a normal practice to compromise planned trips so a Voucher will be given so consumers money WILL NOT be returned , that circumstances were not any fault of ours . Why would we even want a voucher to go anywhere with AMTRAK VACATIONS.
      So now we have a voucher for $3,8433.18. We want a refund

      I received a call at 6:03 from Dearborn MI to Chicago that my train was cancelled, I had business to conduct in Chicago and I feel like a refund was not enough to compensate someone. To be contacted last minute is ridiculous. I always take Amtrak every month due to me conducting business in Chicago and this was very sad to go through. I wont be taking Amtrak any further with this happening to me and I use Amtrak every month.

      Awful company with awful service. I will never use Amtrak again. Never have i ever had so many cancellations and delays with even any airline. Defund amtrak!!
