In July, 2024, my husband had surgery in another state and was not able to fly home because of it. We chose to take the Amtrack train on the Cresent line from *** to **. We purchased a ticket months in advance for a "roomette" (a room advertised with two beds and seperate bathroom facilities). Our ride was from 2 pm --> 6 am the next day.Upon arriving at ****************, the Amtrack employees failed to open the escalators and almost caused many people to miss their train. We were ushered into our roomette, #2 in train 1911. Within 1-2 minutes, the attendant for this room appeared to tell us that our room was "out of order", that we didn't have a ticket, and we were being moved to Coach. Meanwhile, the announcments stated there were no coach tickets. We asked to speak to anyone in supervision. The attendant said the conductor was already coming to talk to us but that there was "nothing anyone could do" and that they were only "faces of the company". I was told to called the ***** number to "get help". The phone number was busy. At this point, my husband was in great pain from being made to stand and I was in tears. The conductor finally told us that he would allow us to sit in the out of order roomette but we wouldn't be real passengers and were removed from the passenger log. We essentially didn't exist. We sat up all night tracking our locations. The only service that was honored was food served once. A few minutes before our stop (Clemson, **), we starting moving toward the exit that we had entered in. There was gravel and no platform. We began running as the train started moving again. We had to yell for people to let us out. The person at the door told us we were stowaways and on the train illegally. He threatened that he should have let us "miss our stop". However, the conductor had assured us he had made arrangements for us to travel through to our final stop. Moral of the story: DON'T USE AMTRACK. They are rude, bullies, and bent on ruining your trip.

If I could give them 0 stars I would but it's not an option. They're never on time, so don't have a schedule that you're on when riding with them. They have no pride in what they do, and no respect for their passengers. Travel with them at your own risk.

I read the three reviews from 2 years ago. Their story is my story. I thought Amtrak Vacations was affiliated with the real Amtrak too, but they are not. I cancelled within a couple of hours after I made the reservation because I found a $549 travel protection charge on my invoice. When I clicked on the link to see what the insurance covered, I got a 403 forbidden error message. I then googled, "Amtrak Vacations reviews" and came across quite a few negative reviews similar to the ones posted here. I went back to my invoice and found under, Part A Benefits provided by Amtrak Vacations, this statement: "Purchasing a travel protection plan is not required in order to purchase any other products or services offered by Amtrak Vacations."I immediately emailed the rep and asked for the charge to be removed. He told me that this particular charge is non refundable. I did not authorize this charge. I didn't even know I had been charged until I received my invoice, AFTER I paid for the reservation. As for my refund I was told I would get a travel voucher instead of cash. ????I want my money back, not a travel voucher for future travel. I paid with cash...I want cash back.It should be obvious that I will not be doing business with "shady" Amtrak Vacations or their other affiliates!I hope this review helps others.

Absolutely ridiculous and unreliable. Just got yelled at by the breakfast lady because I asked for something they ran out of. I suggested that maybe she update the menu so people didnt have to wait for a half hour and then not even get what I want. Not only that but the train was delayed 3 hours both ways. Really ***** because I love riding trains but I will never ride on Amtrack again

My son purchase a ticket, Arrived hours early checked in his luggage, was told that the train is delayed and given a different time of boarding. My son went at the time instructed and the train had already left. When he asked if he can catch the next train he was told no, asked if he could be reimbursed his ticket, so he could purchase another one, he was told no. My son is stranded in a city he knows nothing about, no money, enough food for the next two days he expected to be traveling. Was told to leave the station area cause he has not ticket and is loitering. Where is the humanity

Amtrak vacations is not directly affiliated with Amtrak. They book package deals including the train, hotel stays and excursions for twice the amount of money that you could book yourself. This type of price gouging should be considered criminal. My husband and I booked our vacation trusting that this was a legitimate company. The sales rep seemed so professional and helpful. After booking we started to look into the pricing ourselves and realized we paid $800. more than if wed have booked the trip ourselves!

Amtrak downgraded our tickets from Business Class to Coach on the day of our trip without apology, explanation or compensation. The employees were rude and unprofessional, and the experience was awful. Whoever is running this company should replaced by someone who understands business and the importance of customer service.

They made an error in my reservation with no apologies or attempt to remedy the situation: We booked individually as a group of ***** with veterans and spouses of our ********************** We were all under the same reservation number. After a 17 hour ride we got to our hotel. Everyone in our group was registered at the hotel but my husband and myself. We were told we hadnt paid for hotel even though we were under the same reservation number/package as the rest of our group. We had never traveled by Amtrak and trusted the agents initial itinerary. We were not aware that the agent had altered our reservation and thought we were paid in full. We received zero empathy from Amtrak. They simply told us that we didnt pay for hotel. We had to pay an unexpected $600 for a room. This, of course, left our vacation fund depleted and we ended up not participating in many of our groups planned activities.
