Horrible experience. Came to California for Disneyland and such. Stayed an extra day to take the train to San Diego for the view and experience. Got on the train and found out that they overbook the trains, so a ticket does not equal a seat. Wtf? If I buy a ticket, I should get a seat. What am I paying for? Who wants to stand for 2 hours? This is ridiculous and such a money grab.

Last time I’ll ride a train. Do not recommend!

Dec 2023. Amtrak service from Los Angeles to Sf Bay Area cost $65. But the train got off in Santa Barbara and they loaded everyone on a bus and the total route is 10 hours.

A bus from LA would only have been 8 hours and would have cost $20 less. There was nothing in the description that says the service was not a train.

We had a bedroom, trash had not been emptied in bathroom when we checked in. Attendant said the would wake us up in the morning and get our breakfast to us before we got to our destination. Didn't happen that way. They knocked on door and said we had to get off tairn immediately, that we were at our destination and train had to leave. We had to throw our clothes on and get off the train. Attendant brought our breakfast in a bag and and we were told we could eat our food out on bench on loading dock. Worker came by and said yes we could eat out there. We began to eat and a young woman comes up and says she is closing dock and we have to leave NOW! So we didn't get to eat. On return trip we were bothered by a drunk/mentally ill man in the station. They have little to no security and my husband was supposed to have assistance because he is in a wheelchair. Sometimes we did and sometimes we didn't. As we were leaving, he had no help. I had to leave him to run outside to keep our ride from leaving us and another passenger ended up wheeling him out. I will not be riding Amtrak again.

My son is 18y/o, a college freshman was trying to get home for the holiday, he was totally unaware of any change to the baggage policy and had two 'extra bags' with sneakers in them and the conductor was completely unprofessional, unhelpful, disrespectful and aggressive towards my son. in trying to get him on the train I called customer service at least 10 times, no one was willing to help, I was told we could pay an extra baggage fee and the conductor refused, he took joy making my son cry and abandoning him at that train station. I have never in my life experienced poorer customer service as well as over investment in psychological harm to an 18y/o kid trying to get home for the holidays. He is traumatized, embarrassed and I want this to be filed as a formal complaint against that conductor and Amtrack. Further, they attempted to have me pay to put him on a new train, which I refused but still had to pay $40 for an extra backage fee.

Matt was the conductor on our trip up from Springfield, Mass to St.Albans, VT! Despite a long trip, he was cheerful, kind and accommodating!! This was one leg on our first trip with Amtrak. He not only made it a great trip but provided us with an amazing life-long memory! Everyone who reads this understands how rare amazing customer care is!! Five stars, Matt!
