Very Unprofessional and unreliable station. Stay away from this station.

I’m here at the Alexandria, VA station waiting on a train that should’ve been here over 2 hours ago. The original departure time was 7:17pm. The time is now 9:49pm. Additionally, there are no staff members inside at all. No one. On a Sunday. Absolutely ridiculous. And they eventually stopped updating the times for the train, Train 87 to Norfolk, VA and instead opted to remove it from the display screen altogether.

Well I proceeded to tell her he is 15 and on the train with two of his teammates who were traveling home from camp. She was adamant at the fact that he was a minor traveling and something could happen and they would be reliable. Mind you his other teammates were 15 and 17 as well. So I then said well they are traveling together and have one stop which is in Philadelphia and are coming to Wilmington and if you are that worried about his safety why are you going to put them off at the next stop which was over 5 hours away. She told me that the situation had already escalated and her boss as well as the police were being called. She told me she would talk to her higher ups to see what could be done. Needless to say she called me back and said they would HAVE to get off in Philadelphia and the police would be waiting. There just so happened to be an officer on the train who ended up sitting with them and told them they were not allowed to put them off the train. The officer got off the train in Philly and was nice enough to give them a ride to Wilmington. His teammates father was also called about the situation and mad as well. He was able to get a train ride to Philly where he met them and the officer drove them to Wilmington. The conductor was obviously upset and my son said he kept walking back and forth looking at him until his shift ended. My question is what is the protocol for Amtrak because my son was singled out and asked for his I. D. and his other teammate wasn't. He then was told he was going to get put off the train when he clearly had a ticket and his teammates weren't. It wasn't until they stood up and said he is with us that they said oh well you can get off the train too.

      Texas Eagle...
Entered at Longview Tx Staff radio that she had women children group the train staff agreed considering they were over an hr late
ZERO communication the train lost power no AC. No toilets, No site seeing car as advertised, missing window curtains horrible Restrooms
      no hand towels tissue everywhere
Had to stand for a few stops with paid seats for children over booked the train ..Staff member named James wouldn't ask single riders to move over so that we could sit with our minor children ages 3,5,8, and 12 ...More passengers came aboard with a flash light James decided to bang over our heads and
We were yelled bc James assumed my daughter left a seat on a sold out train she actually went to the restroom
wasn't coming back he insisted on giving her seat to someone else
"Ohh she's gonna give that seat up"
They added another car at the St Louis stop there were too many passengers to accommodate
Rude staff memebers named James needs more training or should be terminated

7/1/23 from Fulton KY, 7/5/23 from New Orleans. At very beginning it was AWFUL. Supposed to depart at 145am. We ended up waiting until 415am to depart. Given an accessible room that we did not request. The attendant did not support with luggage as described, trash was left in the room, the toilet was stopped up did not work and our attendant jumped off the train at the next stop. We pushed the service button and the new attendant who took his place was very rude. He did not want to take our breakfast order. He left and came back, he took our order but seemed inconvenienced. We did not get our correct order of food, He told us we could not eat lunch in our sleeper cart and made us go to the lounge. Once we arrived at the lounge, our food was not prepared. He very rudely told us there was no dessert, then brought the table next to us brownies and gave them extra. He never looked at us again after bringing the table next to us dessert. We tried to get his attention he walked right by. We returned to our room to find he had cleaned the room for the next passengers and threw our belongings on dirty floor. As we arrived into New Orleans he came to our room again to give us a piece of advice. "The doctors in New Orleans for the 4th are fake and don't get hurt with exploding fireworks cause there is no help for you". He mistreated us the entire trip and this was the last he said to us. New Orleans was great! We dreaded returning to the train to get home. Boarding in New Orleans was better and on time. The train lost power. No A/C OR POWER sudden stops for hours. MADE US GET OFF AT 10P AND PUT ON A BUS back to New Orleans. Refused a refund, we asked and the terminal attendant in Jackson MS refused. Arrived back in New Orleans 215am, was left stranded by Amtrak at the station with no assistance. Called Amtrak. Got hung up on 2x, lied to 1×. We ended up getting a hotel and changed departure date to 7th on our own because they refused refund of entire trip. Want refund.

Don’t rely on this train if you need to be on time. If they don’t completely cancel your train the day before travel it’s guaranteed to be at least 40 minutes late. Terrible service. Get it together Amtrak

      Hello,
We are residents of Hastings on Hudson six months out of the year and six months in Grand Isle, Vermont which is a short ferry crossing from Plattsburg. As such, we have a direct interest in direct transportation between southern New York and northern New York, continuing to Montreal Canada. Unfortunately it seems that Amtrak has discontinued its direct train to Montreal, the Vermonter as of three days ago, and the Ethan Allen which runs from D.C. to Burlington, is not as direct as the website seems to indicate. The lack of proper communication from Amtrak is appalling and different agents contradict themselves. It is a shame that our lovely northern areas are not better served with public transportation. It is bad for the economy, bad for tourism and bad for everyone. Pity that we don't have an Acela type train going up the northern corridor.
      Respectfully yours,

Worst experience of my life short of losing a child.

Amtrak has lied to us from the moment we contacted them for this trip.

We wanted to take our two grandsons who are both just nuts for trains, on a cross country train trip.

They are both now just so disappointed and want nothing to do with trains.

We were scheduled from Denver to Chicago then to DC and on to Deerfield Beach, FL

First off the California Zephyr, train 6 was over 3 hours late into Denver and almost 4 hours late leaving Denver.

Don’t worry, we will make up the time and you want be late, they said.

Next the Family Bedroom accommodations were just simply horrible. No room for anything or to sleep. We told the Amtrak booking agent that we had, 2 seniors and 2 children and they assured us that it would be large enough for all of us.

Next we misconnected in Chicago because we were late 4 hours late leaving Denver. I called customer service and ticketing several times and they all just basically just told us that there was nothing they could do to solve our problem. Our Problem!!!

No wonder these idiots were bailed out by the taxpayers 50 years ago.

Bottom line - Stay Away from Amtrak.

Paid $187 for a ticket for the first vacation I was going to take in my adult life, due to student loan payments restarting and taking in a sick stray cat I can no longer afford to take the vacation. They refused to refund the ticket because I tried to save money on the fare by getting a cheaper rate, so apparently only if you are rich and pay more upfront can you get a full refund. They gave me a voucher I cannot and will not use, so I paid $187 to go absolutely nowhere. They stole my money, and clearly discriminate against those with less money to spend on travel in the first place. Theft, plain and simple.
