An internet merchant, that I had previously done business with in 2023, began charging my Best Egg credit card on February 2024, $60.00 a month for a digital magazine that I did not authorize. I made 10 payments of $50.00 for ten months before I realized what was happening. After contacting both Best Egg and the merchant, the merchant agreed to refund the charges to the card and Best Egg agreed to refund my credit card payments, upon receiving the merchants refund. The merchant refunded $600.00 to the Best Egg account. I contacted Best Egg to confirm they received the refund, and they confirmed they had. I then requested they now refund my payments as they agreed to do, but Best Egg now is telling me, they will not refund my payments due to the balance on the account during the 10 month period. My argument is, that balance was caused by the merchant that did not have the authorization to charge me. So Best Egg has my money, AND their money refunded from the merchant, so I'm out $500.00, plus interest, for NOTHING. I feel Best Egg has stolen $500.00 from me.Business Response

I applied for a loan online and consented to a credit check and linking my accounts to Best Egg. I was informed that they were working on an offer. On 8/9/24 I noticed a deposit of $18,452.05 in my account. However, I later received an email from them stating that my loan was in the final stages of review. This confused me, as the deposit had already been made. The following day, on 8/10/24, I received another email stating that my loan had been funded.
I then called them with several questions, including whether I could pay off the loan early without any penalties or extra interest. They assured me there would be no penalties. However, I never received any official loan offer or documentation, so I was unaware of the $2,047.95 loan origination fee.
After making regular payments for five months, I noticed that my remaining balance was higher than the original deposit. Concerned, I decided to pay an extra $500 weekly toward the principal. When I made these additional payments, I later realized that only $108 of each payment went toward the principal, while $392 was applied toward interest. This meant I was being charged interest on payments I made outside of the monthly payment cycle.
I called them and requested to speak with a manager, but was told the manager would call me back. I then contacted my bank and had the payment reversed and after I requested a payoff amount on January 23, which was $19,396.86. After making the full payment, I was charged for an additional month. I called to inquire, they claimed the amount I received as the payoff was not calculated correctly, even though the amount had been given to me two weeks prior to making the full payment.
They have charged me over $2,000 in excess interest in 5 months, and an excessive loan origination fee. They are still asking for an additional $589.62 and threatening to damage my credit.
This has been frustrating , I’ve been charged unfairly. I need your assistance in resolving this matterBusiness Response

MY RESPONSEWhat you are describing is simply not true. At no point did I choose this
loan. When I made the application, I was told that Best Egg was preparing a
loan offer for me. I did not choose the term, the amount, the interest rate, or
anything else. I was simply waiting for the loan offer so I could evaluate and
accept what was best for me.The Truth in Lending statement and all related documents do not prove
anything, as they were produced after the deposit had already been made in my
account. I can prove that the deposit was made before I was given the
opportunity to accept or decline the loan. I received the email confirming the
deposit after the money was already in my account, which
left me confused. As I mentioned, I was not given the opportunity to accept or
decline the offer.Another example of your bad faith is that, to this day, my credit report
shows that I still owe over $19,000, even though I made a payment of over
$19,000. You have not reported this payment. If you continue to show no
interest in resolving this matter, I will file a complaint with the Consumer
Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).Additionally,
the stop payment at my bank was made after I was able to prove to them that I
had made the payments according to your instructions. Two weeks before making
the payment, I requested the payoff amount so that I could explore other loan
options due to the high interest rate and the way I feel that you are
essentially taking my money through what seems like a legally questionable
method.My payment
was made before the monthly payment due date, but you posted it after the
payment, making it appear as though I still owed you that money. I just hope no
one else ends up taking a loan with you. I will also be writing to Credit Karma
to ask them to stop offering your loans.

I have asked repeatedly not to be contacted by this company as they are not even asking for me when they call. They are telling me the only way they will stop calling me is if I provide a phone number I don't have.Business Response

This agency said, they had given me a personal loan in August of 2022. They have been withdrawing money from my account since November of 2022. I have never received a deposit in my account from a loan. I have contacted them on several occasions and they keep saying it had been directly deposited in my account, the same bank account they withdraw monthly payments of $341.27 from. I went to my bank and they confirmed no deposit was ever made to my account. I have asked my bank to stop monthly payment. I am an elderly widow and feel that I have been taken advantage of. Please help me with this issueBusiness Response

Hello.
Last week, Jan 09, 2025. I filed for a flexible loan with Best Egg which is equipped on my landlord's payment portal website. I had trouble paying my rent at the time so I clicked on the flexible rent. It showed that I could cancel anytime, they scheduled to pay my rent on Feb 1, 2025. They were useless since I needed them to pay my Jan rent but since they didn’t pay the January rent, I don’t need them anymore I decided to cancel, and yet they are still charging me on Feb 1, 2025 for that month's rent due. I canceled right away as early as I could today Jan 18, 2025. They are charging me all these fees, and February rent yet they have done nothing but take my application. Application fee I guess that’s the only thing I should pay for their service at my expense.Business Response

I was using the flexible rent option. I tried to pay for it one night, but it didn’t actually get processed despite making it to the page where out said it did. I never got an email from them saying that it was paid, so I tried again. My bank declined it because I was short by $3. I transferred over some funds from my savings to my checking, and I called them. They said that the payment will not go through, and they were not going to try again, despite me telling them that I have the money in that account now, and they can try again. They said that they only send the first one of the month once, and that they will not send it again. Now, I run the risk of facing issues with my landlord over $3. I just want my rent paid for January like it has it set.Business Response

I am a current us service member prior to joining I accepted a loan through best egg at 35 percent interest I was aware of my decision after utilizing the service member civil relief act my interest was lowered to 5percent for the life of my loan as it was taken out prior to enlisting. Now I keep receiving emails insisting that I refinance my loan to a.new apr. The new apr is 35 percent interest best egg is.trying to violate my rights under the service member civil relief act and force me to the high interest rate I was previously paying this is an insult to myself and the thousands who have made the ultimate sacrifice for your freedom not.only is.best egg an unpatriotic communist company but they believe harassing us service members is an allowable practiceBusiness Response

I cancelled my loan within the right to rescission period and I am still showing a balance on my account. I called twice and confirmed my loan was cancelled and that it would take a couple of weeks for everything to update. It’s been 3 weeks with no update. I revived the funds on 12/06/24 and returned the all the funds on 12/10/24. I confirmed before returning the funds that the account would be paid in full and the loan would be considered cancelled.Business Response

I am currently renting from Maymont Homes. Maymont introduced Bestegg as an affordable rent split option which I found convenient due to being paid biweekly. In October and November that randomly increased my split causing me to pay almost $4000 in a two month span. I ended up paying this months rent late because it was one of the randomly hiked up splits I was not ready to pay. They are now saying that my rent was past due and the amount I paid was owed to them and not to Maymont. Which makes no sense as the landlord has already confirmed that my balance from August to November is paid in FULL. They have not released the funds saying it is owed to them as payment for the month prior. My landlord confirmed that the amount I paid to Bestegg is for December's rent. 1274.75. Bestegg then told my husband that they're just waiting on the funds to be processed then they will be released to Maymont. I just got off the phone with them and they are once again saying that they will NOT be releasing the funds to Maymont because it is owed to them. I either need my money back to pay directly to the landlord before I'm evicted in two days or for them to give the money to Maymont.Business Response
