I made the mistake of clicking onto a ******** post which was advertising education in medical coding & billing. I received a phone call from a man by the name of ***************************** from UMA ************** who's job it was to pressure me into ******* through the stuff to sign up saying that they had a financial staff that would help me get the funding I needed. When I got the email that the ***** funding available would only be enough to cover a small part of the expenses, I called to request that my application be withdrawn. I made it very clear that I was going through bankruptcy & wouldn't be able to afford the courses out of pocket. He would only push me through to people in the financial department who were more than happy to meet my request to cancel my application. Apparently, that wasn't good enough for him. Since, he had requested in the beginning that I put him down as a reference, there had to be incentive for him to remove my request from the system multiple times. I also received an email that the small portion of my ***** had been approved. Seeing that my multiple attempts to resolve this issue haven't been fruitful, I decided my only option was to reach out to the BBB.

I had enrolled with UMA was Due to start December 1st. I filled out all the paperwork they said I was good to go. Not even a week later I was receiving threatening emails saying they had made a mistake on the financial end and I needed to resign. Not once but twice. Then they started sending me treating emails saying Im not a student and I will be removed from the program. Then they called me said I was being removed from the program because they could not confirm my high school graduation date. Now they still send my threatening emails and are calling my phone and hanging up.

I enrolled in UMA in the Pharmacy Technician Program. From day 1 it has been a nightmare. I came to the school as a transfer student and brought over my transcripts with me. I had to fight for weeks to get my math course approved. This school said they had to request a course syllabus from ***** the school in which i transferred from in order to see if their math program alligned with UMA Math requirements. I had never in my life heard that before. I get thru that, now here i am weeks later with another issue. Mind you i have transferred to this school after completing all of my basic college prerequisites, this school gives me a "Smarter Measure Assesment". This assesment is on the basic reading, writing, and mathematics. Again, these are all courses i have completed and passed. I find myself waking up to an email from UMA explaining to me that they have enrolled me in a tutuoring course for these basic skills that ive already completed at the college level on top of my coursework. I work fulltime, have 2 children, and attend school fulltime. Im not understanding why this school ahs enrolled me in this course, i feel that this school needs to be reviewed as well as have the financials reviewed. I was never given an updated ledger for the classes they charged me for that i had transfer credits with, they never refunded that to my Financial Aid as well as never gave me any paperwork showing the credits given back. I feel that this school is scamming students as well as fraudulently misusing school funds. Overcharging for things you don't need as well as not reimbursing for things we should have been charged for in the first place. I would like to see the financial records for the courses i have been charged for, be removed from these sessions i dont need, and possibly have financial aid review the student accounts to ensure that all the things the school is doing are valid. If possible i am willing to give a statement to financial aid as well.

    Dear ******************,

Ultimate Medical Academy received your inquiry to the Better Business Bureau on 12/4/23 regarding course transfer credit, your student account, as well as the Smarter Measure assessments.

We apologize for any unclear communication regarding our process for evaluating courses from another institution for transfer as credit for UMA courses.

On 11/1/23, our Registrar received unofficial transcripts from you for courses completed at another school. We notified you on our policy need to have official transcripts to complete the evaluation. On 11/29/23, you sent us official transcripts and we were able to confirm transfer credit for the UMA EN1150 English Composition, MA1015 College Math, SC1040 General Biology, and SO1050 Sociology courses.

No tuition charges had occurred as you were still within the Provisional Registration Period.

On 12/5/23, our Student Finance team spoke with you by phone and reviewed the transfer credit outcomes, as well as your student account. You seemed pleased with your updated course schedule and the financial aid that will be awarded. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our Student Finance team at ************.

Also, the Smarter Measure assessments are given to all new students in the UMA Pharmacy Technician Associate of Science program. We are remiss that a technical issue occurred during the grading of one of your Smarter Measure math assessments. Grading was updated for this assessment so that you could proceed into your next course.

Please email *************************************************************** with any other concerns.

    Sincerely,

Ok where do I start. I received a call from one of UMA representatives one night about enrolling in classes with UMA. While I was on the phone the woman explained to me all the different courses they offered online, and asked me if any of them sounded like something I would be interested in pursuing. At this time in my life I had just had a baby and liked the idea of all online courses and chose to pursue a diploma in Medical Administrative Assistant. As she sit their and explained the course would be a 10 month course and that after I graduated they would find me a job in that field locally, this is misrepresentation #1. I was then told that the course would cost 11k but that I would probably qualify for a couple pell grants as I was unmarried/single mother. After it was all said and done ******** grants would take care of all of the 11k except about 3k that I would owe. I decided that it was worth the 3k and enrolled, this was misrepresentation #2. Fast foward to graduating, I did recievie a diploma from UMA, but at the cost of 9k that I would owe. They failed to tell me that their was 2 semesters in a 10 month course and that it would be 11k each, which still didn't add up to the bills received. At this point I was contacted by UMA about a part time position for 1 day a week 45mins away from my house and told them that's not worth it that I'd be losing money to do that and that that's all they had to never recieve anything else. After all this I'm livid that I've been scammed and contact the Flordia Attorney General to get a report back saying their also only accredited in *****/********** Flordia, misrepresentation #3. I live in ** this does me absolutely no good. So moving forward to now I have been in contact with a lawyer about sueing UMA for MISREPRESENTATION for pain and suffering and for the student loan money that I should not owe due to it. I am open to a settlement outside of court but they will have to contact me I will not them under advice.

    Dear Ms. *******,

Ultimate Medical Academy received your inquiry to the Better Business Bureau on 10/17/23 regarding your tuition, financial aid, and job search.

We are sorry to hear about your concerns. As we take pride in our graduates and their accomplishments,we would hope this could be a moment to celebrate your completion of the Medical Administrative Assistant diploma program. When a UMA graduate has an issue, it is taken seriously.

In your BBB inquiry, you mention being told that you would get a job after finishing your program of study. We attempted to locate a record of such conversation. UMA does not, in any way, guarantee employment. This is emphasized on page 97 in our current Student Catalog and page 30 of UMA Student Consumer Information. These documents are accessible at www.ultimatemedical.edu/student-information/. We are remiss to learn that you had a different understanding.

We do offer our graduates job search assistance throughout their professional lives through the UMA ****** Services team at ************. You mentioned to the BBB that this team did present a potential opportunity in the past. However, the job did not offer the hours or travel specifications you desired. ****** Services advisors will gladly work with you to seek opportunities that better align.

You also advised the BBB that your tuition charges and financial aid were not clearly explained, and do not seem accurate. UMA Student Finance reviewed your student account and found that the program cost, as well as the financial aid awarded and applied, is correct. Tuition and fees for UMAs programs can be found on pages 180 to 191 in the current Student Catalog accessible at www.ultimatemedical.edu/student-information/.

Financial aid award letters signed by you are on record for your first and second academic years. Additionally, notes on your student record indicate that you had a conversation about these awards with Student Finance on 1/30/2014. So that you have a thorough review of your student account with a member of the Student Finance team, please call at ************ at your earliest convenience.

If you have any further concerns, please email ***************************************************************.

I enrolled at Ultimate Medical Academy on 9/4/23. I enrolled in Medical Billing Coding , which Is a 18-month program, they are charging $29,995.00 for. I was instructed by *****************************, who is in Admissions. She told me to do the ****** and two others forms to complete enrollment. I decided to do research on the school before completing enrollment. After reading all the BBB complaints that have been filed on UMA , I decided to disenroll from the school. On 9/11/23, I received an email from *** stating they would be delivering a package from Book Masters to my address. I sent a reply to *** stating that I am disenrolling because I felt the school was fraudulent, and that I would be sending the package back, as soon as delivered. I would not be paying for it or be billed for it. I spoke with ******* on 9/13/23, about canceling or disenrolling me and stopping the shipment of the package (tracking#1Z383Y2R0325061738. REF# *******, And Ref#*******, which is the assigned student id# ********************** gave me . ON 9/13/23, I found out that ******* sent an email stating that she had disenrolled me. I received another email on 9/13/23 from *** stating that they had delivered my package to thus address: In my name they delivered the package to: ******************************************. My address can be verified by **** as: ****************************************************************. Why would they ship a package to a state I don't live in to another address. This is fraudulent and I do not accept any thing UMA can give as an reason, when they have my correct address. The package they delivered has the same tracking, and two ref#'s. I need BBB to make sure that I am disenrolled, and that I an not charged, billed, or have any cost associated with this school put on my credit report. I did tell ******* that I wS filing this complaint. I have emails that they have sent. I want to make sure the cost of this program of $29,995.00 does not hit my credit report. I did not apply for financial aid.

Hello there! I had a horrible experience at this college as a neurodivergent student who had experienced extensive abuse in my past. Not through the course, mind you. Aside the consistent harassment through telephone calls, I managed to have a 4.0 throughout the course. However, I was increasingly hit with red flags. Ultimate Medical Academy tells you they provide childcare or help to show where childcare is during an externship, promoting help to single mothers, which ended up proving to be false. I started my externship late because the program was not prepared for my area, which I was previously assured it was. I was assured that I would have help in finding a perfect fit and no issues if my daughter or I had health issues. I was assured this would all work out. However, a person on staff had an issue with my tone on the phone one day (I am neurodivergent and have a low toned voice), so he suspended me and sent me to review team for review. After review, I was given a warning. However, the time off meant I could not finish my externship. So, because of a problem with one employee (my entire teacher staff never had a problem with me, advisor loved me, etc.) I was robbed of my associate's degree as a pharmacy technician. I mentioned multiple times that my externship site was asking me to perform tasks that are illegal and immoral for me to do, and Ultimate Medical Academy considered me the problem. I was also called after business hours by people from Ultimate Medical Academy, as well as very early in the morning. Thank you for reading, I am willing to speak further any time about this issue.

    Business Response

    Date: 09/11/2023

    Dear ********************,

Ultimate Medical Academy received the externship concerns you submitted to the Better Business Bureau on 9/1/23.

During your Pharmacy Technician Associate of Science program externship, UMA Teams actively worked to address any issues or concerns, and provided guidance for your success.

You raised concerns about pharmacy staff competency and availability to provide you with answers to questions, as well as overall best practices at the pharmacy site. To allay any worry, your externship instructor was able to confirm with the pharmacy manger that all pharmacy staff had appropriate years of experience and credentialling. These pharmacy staff had also made themselves available to answer your questions.

When the site reported you having attendance issues that included you not showing up or arriving late without calling, staff from our Education, ******* Services, and Externship teams attempted discussion with you to help. You met our outreach with combative behavior.

We attempted to coach you on communication, professionalism, and ways to focus on the learning process.

When you had a self-disclosure,we offered avenues for you to request accommodations with our ********** Services team, and to access counseling with our ************************ but you declined.

Although the externship site offered to continue hosting you as long as you committed to schedule adherence and improved communication, the Education team determined that that the site was not a good fit given your behavior concerns and initiated action to find a new site.

While the UMA Externship Team worked to locate a new site, we placed you on Suspension. This was to prevent your days of attendance from lapsing. Our Student Conduct team also sent a warning letter with **************** to complete during the Suspension so that you would be aware of expected behavior and be prepared to return for success at your new externship. Unfortunately, you did not return following the Suspension.

Our Re-entry Team will gladly assist with your re-enrollment should you wish to do so. You may reach this team at ************ to discuss next steps.

UMA looks forward to supporting your program completion goals.

    Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:

The business stated blatantly false information and there was no letter confirming suspension, among other things. Re-entry should have never even become a possibility as I should have never been let go. I was promised help with childcare that was never provided. I was promised flexibility if my daughter was sick, which was considerably false. I was treated terribly by the teams at UMA in the end and do not agree with anything placed in the response. I have witnesses to all conversations with the team members that caused me issues. No other instructors or classes had issues with me or any absences along the way. I did not fall short on communication and kept up with my entire course. I am out over ****** dollars in student loans and would have to re-enter and re-do my classes, or at least the externship, to gain a license I should have already had.

    Complaint: 20546171

I am rejecting this response because:

I was told a site would be found for me and the school (Ultimate Medical Academy) ghosted and ignored me. I had suddenly received an e-mail saying I had been discharged from the school with no other warning. Re-entry and retaking classes or my externship should not even be proposed; I should have had my degree that I earned. I spent many, many dedicated hours to try and gain my degree and had a 4.0 throughout my entire schooling at UMA. I will not be punished because one employee decided he had a problem with me. The team deciding my punishment had given me a "warning" after all was already said and done and I was forced to not go to the site, losing my opportunity to finish and gain my Pharmacy Technician license.

The school also has harassed me on multiple occasions when I asked them to stop calling and e-mailing. I even have a new vaguely threatening voice-mail from UMA! Extremely unprofessional and I regret my choice of going to UMA, at all. I was hoping to be halfway through my first years getting a degree to become Pharmacist. Instead, I am in the opposite position with trying to start fresh at twenty seven years of age with two young children.

    Sincerely,
