5 starsSmooth transition from New York to Florida. Customer service was responsive every time we called for an update. The delivery arrived a couple days later than we would have liked but it was within the dates we were given and can't be mad about it. Other than that it was a good experience.Review fromSun L

1 starInternational Van Lines initially offered a lower rate to entice me to use their moving services. However, on moving day, they significantly increased the price. By that point, with my move scheduled in just a few days, I had little choice but to proceed with their service.
I was moving from a two-bedroom condo, and most companies estimated the total volume to be between 600 to 800 cubic feet. To better understand the cost, I frequently adjusted my item list—adding or removing items to determine whether it was worth bringing them. One company even sent an agent for an in-person estimate, but their approach felt dishonest. When I asked about the cost of moving a rack or TV stand, I was told it would be "just a little over $10" per piece. Trusting that estimate, I added several bulky items, which brought the volume estimate to 800 cubic feet.
Concerned about potential accusations of underreporting, I conducted three estimates with International Van Lines throughout the packing process. The final estimate, completed just three days before the move, calculated the volume at 710 cubic feet. However, on moving day, the movers claimed the total volume was 1,100 cubic feet. After a heated discussion, I was only able to negotiate it down to 900 cubic feet—still nearly a 30% increase in price.
The moving process involved 5 to 6 different people or teams: the salesperson, estimator, regional dispatchers, and the initial and final moving crews. The entire move from Massachusetts to California took about a month. Fortunately, I had accommodations during this time, but otherwise, I would have faced weeks in a hotel.
To make matters worse, several items were missing, and a few were damaged. When I reached out to resolve the issue, they promised to investigate but never followed up.
Additionally, their prohibited items list includes around 50 items. If you're moving cross-country, you'll likely need a minivan just to transport the items they refuse to handle.Review fromMartin L.

1 starWe moved from Kansas to Illinois in July 2024 using International Van Lines. Our experience with them was a nightmare.
The process of estimating costs seemed designed to seriously underestimate expenses. Judging from reviews underestimates of 25% are common with the company.
The costs of the move would have been tolerable were there a modicum of services provided for them which was not the case.
We spent the week before the move frantically trying to contact their customer service representative to clarify the time of the pickup and what we would need to do to be prepared for it. Calls continually went to voice mail and were never returned.
The move itself was a disaster. IVL appeared to subcontracted with other movers or use questionable affiliates to have the work done. The first group showed up in a rental truck from Enterprise and took our furniture to a warehouse where others reloaded it. It was eventually delivered in a nondescript truck by movers whose English was limited. The system seemed designed to encourage bad service and a lack of accountability.
The results were problems that went far beyond those ordinarily encountered in moves. They disassembled a dining room table, but lost the hardware so it could not be reassembled. They lost the legs to a modern desk that we needed to have a repairman remake. They managed to break a marble table top that we thought was indestructible. They snapped coffee table in half. The lost three large boxes that were only delivered three months later and a filing cabinet that is still floating around their warehouses somewhere.
Claims for damages are handled by an organization called Movingclaims.net. Before dealing with IVL you would be well advised to look up reviews of the organization at the Better Business Bureau or Reddit that will give you a good idea of the nature of the organizations you will be dealing with. It took three months from the time our meager claim was settled to get a check.Review fromSuzanne S

1 starNEVER NEVER HIRE International Van Lines as a moving company. At every phase, representatives lied to me. And, worst of all, they served as a broker rather than a mover and assigned my job to a much lower rated moving company, **************** Moving and Storage. Goods were stored by **************** in ***** for over two months,. This is after I was promised that my goods would be moved to my new location (********) by *** and stored at an IVL facility in ********, providing prompt delivery once Id moved. It occurred despite being told that *** did not use subcontractors and was told, Absolutely not. Only International Van Lines personnel will pack and deliver your materials. If ** wanted to hire the inferior moving company I was assigned to, it could have cost less. But I didnt choose an inferior company (or so I thought). And it was inferior: One bookcase was broken beyond repair, as were numerous glass items. A valuable poster was folded in quarters rather than properly rolled or packed flat. One box was lost altogether. **************** packers insisted on emptying all dressers. They also repacked many items that I had packed in certain baskets or containers, making it ridiculously time-consuming to get everything organized again. Delivery was by yet another company: *************. These unpackers could not read instructions written on every box, nor follow oral directions for placement of the boxes. NEVER TRUST ANYTHING *** SAYS and NEVER HIRE the company.Review fromJohn W

1 starHorrible experience. The customer is responsible for any follow up or communication. *** uses multiple contractors and storage sites, and neglects to inform customers of this during the sales process. They provide no oversight and take no responsibility for communication during the moving process. You can absolutely count on 21+ days to deliver and 0 communication or responsibility taking during the process. I certainly wish I had my sizable sum of money back and would absolutely choose another interstate moving company.Review fromKait J

1 starWorst moving service I could have ever signed up to use. They 100% paid ********* and Forbes for the reccomendation because there is NO way customers are satistfied with the "service" they provide. Most important to understand, THEY ARE JUST A MIDDLE MAN. They don't even handle communication with the moving trucks once scheduled, they make you do it, and don't tell you about additional potential costs if a moving truck can't park in front of your pick-up or delivery address. Everything they charge you for is in the fine print, they don't review anything with you. The person they assigned to my ticket was unresponsive and unprofessional. They assign different people for pick up and delivery so you never know who to contact. They don't call you back. They over charge you for you to basically do all the work for them. Do NOT under ANY circumstances use International Van Lines. Oh, and I forgot to mention that many of our dishes and items arrived shattered and broken.Review fromDaniel C

1 starI had a horrible experience with this company, probably the most incompetent and unprofessional service I have ever received. For a move from ******** to ******, they first sent my shipment to *******, causing a delay of months (and many thousands of dollars in additional living expenses during the delay). Their local agent in ******** did a terrible job with the packing: many items arrived damaged or broken. When my shipment finally arrived at port in ******, their local Mexican agent took forever to clear customs and then their delivery truck broke down, causing yet another delay. I reached out to ***'s owner requesting help in resolving my issues, and he never responded. Avoid this awful company at all costs.
