1 starOur original reservation was $185 and was charged $600. There is no way to contact anyone and everything is online we received the car 4 hours late causing us to miss the appointment I was in town for to begin with. We were charged an upgrade fee when the car we received was a downgrade and in poor conditionReview fromNancy G

1 starLess than 1. She added **************** & a damage waiver without my knowledge to the tune of $69.93 & $244.93. Theyre crooks. I cant get anyone on the phone. Also, I upgraded to a car with built in GPS. They had to search the lot for one. Finally I got the only one available. ******* is a *****!lReview fromRonald J

1 starthis is my second time using Thrifty. Rental car . the first time they closed early and left me stranded. in st Thomas at 5 in the evening no refund just nasty people on the phone i am now in Nashville when I arrived went to the thrifty counter and the lady there you have a 6 day rental and that will be an extra 31.95 a day for insurance $191.70 more i informed her that my car insurance covers it she continues to press after the 4 th time i said no she went on to push for gas i should prepay at 6 bucks a gallon told me it was cheap so I took it add 110 dollars to the rental with that done she went into a sales pitch for me to upgrade to a better car for 38 dollars a day another 228 dollars on to a paid reservation when i said no thank you she asked again are you sure again I said no thank you with that she said they were out of cars in the size I ordered so I had to upgrade finally after 15 min she said she did me a big favor and got me a vw for only 18.95 a day more than i already paid another $113.70 at this point i just paid it i had a 2 hr drive ahead of me after thinking this is a bait and switch and what a nasty way to do business i get to the car that i had to find with no help from thrifty / hertz and it was an old vw with just shy of 70,000 miles on it it road terrible and was noisy almost to the point i could not use a cell phone I WILL NEVER USE PRICELINE TO RENT A CAR AGAIN AND I WOULD NOT RECOMEND THRIFTY OR HERTZ OR ANY OF THE OTHER COMPANYS THEY OWN also i video the whole car before i left the parking space since she played the insurance game you never know what they would try

1 starGot the dealers preference. It was an electric car. Did not realize I had to take electric car. Did not want an electric car being a tourist. I didn't know where I could find a charging station, how to charge, etc. They upgraded me to a gas powered car for the tune of $578. When I got to the garage to pick up the car there were none there. I want to know why a gas powered car is an upgrade from an electric car. Have been trying to contact them. They said a form which i cannot fill out nor print. Phone contact just goes around in a circle. Cannot talk to a real person.Review fromMARTIN C

1 starWhen I arrived, about 10 people on line. I had to stand in that line with my bad leg for over an hour. Apparent computer problem and lack of staff. Counter unmanned most of the time. Horrible on-hold music played over and over as they were apparently on a helpline. Even when they started taking customers each one took about 15 minutes because of uncertainties about payment and insurance. Me too even though I'd carefully worked out the details. Tried to sell me additional insurance I didn't need, requiring rethinking it. I had chosen "wildcard" because any size car would do. I wasn't told this could be an electric car. I had never driven one, didn't want to start now, would have cost me to change it. Couldn't figure out how to make car work. Instructions were inadequate. Had to go back in and get someone to help, more waiting. Took about 2 hours by the time I drove out. On the way out stopped by an employee who demanded I show paperwork I'd thrown in back. Had to get out. Had to get App to recharge. Closest station was full. Went to next one on app. In bad section, in parking garage. Had to pay for parking to charge. Had driven 37 miles, took over an hour to charge. Never again!

1 starSimilar experience to others. I was charged for additional insurance that I never asked for and was never even quoted a cost for. I turned down additional insurance when I made the booking. They also charged me for an additional driver, even though I had specified that I wanted an additional driver when I made the booking and at no point was told that I would have to pay extra beyond the amount stated at the time of booking. I only learned of these charges after I received the final invoice. Their customer service is some of the worst I've ever experienced. The only way to make inquiries into a past rental is to fill out a form on their website, but when I tried to submit the form I got an error that told me to call the number I had just called, where there is no option to talk to a human about a past rental. I was finally called and spoke to a booking agent who connected me with someone from the billing department. That person said that there was nothing he could do, but that I should contact Hertz about it. I contacted Hertz, and they just used the excuse that I had signed the rental agreement (even though I was never shown the rental agreement with the charges broken down prior to signing.) They know what they're doing. They sneaking extra fees into their rental agreements and abusing the trust of their customers. Someone should be in prison.

1 starPicked up a rental car for 5 days. Had no issues upon returning it full of gas with no issues. I walked the car with the Thrifty employee and there was no damage. About a week later I’m hit with an addition 450 dollars for a windshield repair that was not there when I dropped the car with the employee in the airport garage. I submitted a dispute with my credit card company and was denied. Contacted Thrifty with no luck. They could provide no pictures or evidence of any damage to the windshield.Review fromShane M

1 starTHE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER WITNESSED FROM A BUSINESS. The location that we picked up the car at did not give us an option to decline insurance. I later called that day to fix the situation, but the phone number for our pick up location was disconnected. I called customer service and had a difficult time getting to a real person. After getting a hold of someone, they gave me the same disconnected phone number to the pick up location. I spoke to a customer service representative later that day, who supposedly sent out an email to that location, and told me I did not have to physically go, as the location was supposed to call me back. I never received a response or call back. After speaking with another representative, they indicated that we should file a dispute through the thrifty website. We tried to file, and received an error message for every attempt. We reached back out to customer service, who told us that is the only way to file a dispute, and that there was nothing they could do about it. Very upset with this experience, as we have been attempting to resolve this situation for the last week and can't seem to get an answer from anyone.Review fromJack L

1 starWe rented and prepaid for a compact vehicle from Thrifty at the airport in Lihue HI on Feb.20, 2024. They did not have the compact we reserved and provided us with a vehicle that we felt uncomfortable and unsafe in due to it's large bulky size. Kauai has many narrow , two lane roads and one lane bridges. Although we were the only customers in the building, we were told that "company policy" is that only the person driving was to remain inside while other members of the party had to wait outside. As my wife contracted the rental and I was to be the driver, they effectively made sure additional eyes would not see the agreement. We asked for no additional insurance and they had us initial a form that we "acknowledged we requested no additional insurance". Thrifty could not provide us with a copy of the form. Upon returning the vehicle on Feb. 29, 2024,in good condition, fully fueled, we were told we owed and additional $555.92 for insurance. They produced the form that we initialed which stated that we had "read and agreed with the terms stated" which included additional "Loss Damage Waiver" insurance of $41.99 per day and "Premium Road Service " of $9.99 per day. They would not mediate or reduce our charges. There was no manager or supervisor to speak with and we had a departing flight to catch. .Thrifty is running a fraudulent, deceitful, operation lying to it's customers. It is not fulfilling it's customers needs or contracts. From the number of recent, similar complaints noted on this website, it is obvious that their "policies" and operations are widespread and prevalent in the industry. Do not do business with Thrifty Car Rental.
