Terrible experience at SFO picking up a rental, called customer service they could not help, asked for a supervisor and was told he is busy. I asked to wait and was told that was not allowed and he would call back. He did not. I called again and was told he is still busy and would call back. He did not.

This rental car company deals in fraudulent activity. My rental agreement through a third-party was canceled. The thrifty associate did not know who canceled it. I was in a different state for a lacrosse tournament and had no choice but to rent whatever car they had at double the price I was quoted from the third-party. Thrifty would not reimburse me one cent, they said because I signed the agreement there’s nothing they can do. I had no choice but to take what they had at the overpriced rental agreement as the tournament was hugh and no cars were available. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

The company added fees that I was unaware of until looking at my statement. The car battery died and wouldn’t turn over after an hour plus of jumping it multiple ways. There was a birds nest in the hood of the car. There was trash inside the car. Tow truck didn’t come til the next day, almost 24 hours after the ETA. Couldn’t speak with anyone helpful to get a full refund, even though I had the car for three days out of the ten I booked it for. Then see that my card statement is $500 more than I thought it would be. Car was nothing like what I requested, and was making weird noises. Logan Airport in Boston line took 90 minutes just to get to the front of the line. Then once I finally got through line, waited another thirty to get a random car and leave the garage. Disgraceful company.

Horrible experience. Apparently 4 to 5 hours wait is the norm at the LAX (Los Angeles airport) location. There were about 80 people in line when I arrived at the Thrifty LAX location, they have 4 agents working behind the counter. I spent about 2 hours in line when an upset customer alert everyone that Thrift don’t have any available car on their lot and demand to talk with a site manager. A very rude man reveal to us that it would be at least another 2-3 hours before they have any cars, another upset customer raised his voice about his dis-satisfaction and Thrifty agent flat out cancel his reservation ???? It seems Thrifty corporations doesn’t care how their customers feels otherwise they would retrained their employees … I would never rent another car from this place or Thrifty-Dollars car rental again.

This is a review of Thrifty Car Rental in the Portland Airport. The agent helping did not review charges of what basic insurance costs. Added additional charges which exceeded over $300. I was quoted $240 for the compact car and ended up paying over $700. I want to warn others that they don't review the cost with you. Watch them. They are sneaky. I'll never use this company again anywhere. The fact that they show an A+ rating on BBB makes me now question the BBB and how they rate businesses. You can clearly see below I'm not the first negative review.

Rented from GotRentalCars.com/Thrifty. Paid $147.00. Arrived San Jose-car was not ready-given a complimentary upgrade. Authorized pre-paid gas and was TOLD I would be charged for the replaced gas. Authorized bridge insurance-$25.00 x5. High-but I did authorize this. PREMIUM Roadside assistance?? I didn't authorize that but I guess it's in their contract-smooth move! Was charged $76.00 for gas-I returned the car EARLY 11/5 at 7:00 pm-with 3/4 of a tank of gas-after I was told they would charge for the replacement fuel only-that's OUTRAGEOUS! Why would ANYONE agree to prepay a full tank of gas? All said, this rental of a car for 4 days (11/1-11/5) was $516.15. I will be your worst nightmare on Yelp Reviews! Yes, I sent a complaint to their executive offices first. I've rented cars for 30 years from every car rental agency all over the country and I've never EVER experienced such obvious money grab! I've rented from Thrifty before-never had this experience. Outrageous business practice! Never, ever again. To the general public-AVOID THRIFTY/HERTZ AND ANYONE AND EVERYONE AFFILIATED WITH THIS COMPANY! Horrible business practices!!!

We completed a Rental with Thrifty Boston Logan on 12th October. They charged us 13days at $14.99 for the automatic toll reader, their clerk said we'd be charged what we used. I worked out around $11 on 2 days only, but the charge was $194.87. They won't budge on a refund saying that that's what I signed for. No- the rental agreement has in capital letters ESTIMATED, and their terns & conditions say to me that one gets a rental charge for the days the transponder is used, ie another $14.99 x 2. I have tried several attempts to get them to answer 2 questions: "What is their company definition of "estimated?" And "Do you really think I would agree to pay $194.87 instead of around 41?" They just parrot the "you signed" argument by standard robotic type replies. Their transparency stinks. I am told Hertz group companies all do the same- Hertz, Thrifty, Dollar. The car was reliable, but was very tired for a rental, handed over in the left lane of the garage exit with engine running, so no chance of photos, lumpy driver's seat, graunching front wipers, rear wiper shredded, filthy inside windscreen, damage to parcels shelf, 48481 miles showing. You can interpret my decision....

The San Juan Puerto Rico operation is terrible. They try to make you pay over and the wait for your car is to long (30 minutes). What is the need of having a reservation if the car is not avilable.

Worst car rental experience ever. They didnt have the type of car I reserved so I was forced to upgrade. I was asked about the additional protection which I clearly declined and we had a conversation about the gas plan and how I didnt want it as I wasnt sure how much I would be driving. The agent snuck those additional charges along with roadside assistance into the agreement anyway. I signed without looking for deceptive charges. Ive rented dozens of cars and never had dishonest agents do something like this. It was clearly intentional. I will never rent from them again and will caution everyone I know to use a different provider.

They added hidden extra charges and fees to your final invoice. None of such fees were discussed or mentioned when you were at the counter to pick up the vehicle. They added them to my contract and I made the mistake to not reviewing the contract and just took their words for it before signing it. When I questioned it afterward, they stated "because you signed the contract, it's too late to remove those charges."
