Don't use Thrifty Car Rental they are thieves. Ask for a sunny pass and the guy told me no problem. When I went through the garage check out the woman told me it was pay by plate. I went through two tolls at like two to three dollars each. I got a bill for $50 some dollars for two tolls. They never told me they charge a flat rate to use Sunny pass. I asked a guy to bring it back a half an hour late and got charged for that as well but was never told I would be charged more. Fraudulent company. If they did this to me they probably done it to thousands of people

Despite trying to contact the company directly to remedy the problem, I have been forced to leave this review. I rented a car through my teacher's union website for a car through Thrifty. It was advertised as "Compact or Larger" and I paid the total through the site. When I arrived at the desk to pick up the rental car, I waited for 30 minutes before an agent appeared at the desk. While checking out, I was told that I would be given an Electric Vehicle. Due to the rural zone that I was traveling to, I politely told the clerk that I would need the compact or larger car that was reserved as there was no way for me to charge the car. He told me, that was too bad and that I would then have to upgrade for 30$ a day to get a compact car. I told him that I had already paid for that type of car and there was no reason why that could not be honored. He told me, "that's too bad, either find a way to charge the car or pay for an upgrade". I was given no choice but to sign for the upgrade. Once in the garage, I again waited 40 minutes before an agent assisted. After the rental I contacted the company 2x to explain the situation, and they informed me that since I signed the agreement it was all on me. My rental went from $250 to $500 with the worst rental experience of my life. Agents were rude, shady, and did not provide customer service whatsoever. I am requesting that this be remedied on Thrifty/Dollar's end, as this was completely unacceptable.

I would rate this company 0 stars. I reserved a mid-size vehicle 3 months in advance and when I went to pick it up at the airport, they only had EVs available. I had no choice but get my family in that car and drive it an hour to our hotel. I went the next morning to a charging station which required 9 hours to fully charge it. Thrifty exchanged it for another EV which spent most of my vacation plugged in. Why reserving a car with Thrifty since they can't honor the reservation?Customer Service is no help either. Only roadside assistance was somewhat helpful (yes, we ran out of power).

We were just taken advantage of at the Thrifty car rental company ref *********** at the ****************. We reserved a car, prepaid and only need to pay $58 more for 3 day rental. We declined all additional insurance coverage and the person took advantage of us. Charged us $150 more in premium insurance and when we enquired said, this is just a $200 hold that would be reimbursed to us. We were charged $416 in total. This is a complete scam. When we figured this out we were already 2 miles away from the airport. Turned around and they said that because we had driven off the lot we could not get a refund. These people are crooks and are ripping off customers. Thrify is horrible for letting this happen. Someone has to do something. We did not want the extra coverage. We said no. There were two of us standing there. I'm reading this is a common occurrence. These people need to stop.

Thrifty operates under essentially fraudulent business practices, and their customer service is abysmal. I rented a car for 2 days out of ********************. My reservation should have started at noon and I didn't get the car until 3:45 p.m. I called to confirm that I'd be able to extend my return time to 3:45 p.m. without an additional charge. Which I did--returned the vehicle after having been directed from an incorrect garage to the correct garage by airport employees. My friend had left a purchased item in the backseat of the car and had to submit a loss claim, which she did that evening. I have documentation to prove that I returned the car when I said I did, yet when I received the bill 3 days later, Thrifty had charged me for returning the car late by 2 full days. I had to call customer service again to dispute the charge, for which they apparently filed a claim and then was told to follow up in 3-5 days. 3 days later, I hadn't heard anything and also was billed $348 when we should have only been charged $73. I had to call yet again and was told that the claim had been denied due to "the car not being returned to the correct parking garage and it took Hertz 2 days to report the car returned." I was forced to threaten to call my credit card company to dispute the claim before they would issue a refund for $221. I was told it would take up to 7 business days for the refund to be processed. I thought the matter was closed until yesterday when I received a bill for $5.38. Had to call 2 more times the same day, after having been hung up on. By the second call, they said they had "incorrectly billed me for $348 when it should have been $353, so they had to bill the difference." They have escalated and I now have yet another claim. I'm supposed to check in once again to see if it's been resolved; they won't notify me. I cannot believe businesses get away with operating like this. I've never had such awful customer service. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

On July 12, 2023 I pre-paid for a car rental with Thrifty with pick-up at the ***********, **. airport on 9-23-23 returning car on 9-25-23. Pre-paid amount of $130.66 for a ****** Versa or similar. I arrived at the airport at approximately 10:30 a.m. via ********* Airlines gathering my bags and riding the shuttle to the car rental facility. Extremely long line-was able to determine from other customes that they did not have any cars available. I waited in line to discuss the situation with an agent for Thrifty. I was told I had two options-ask for a refund or wait another hour and one-half to obtain a car. I was able to obtain a vehicle at 1:31 p.m. Car was not full even though the rental record stated is was full. The delay in obtaining my vehicle resulted in my missing one of the activities I planned to attend. What is the purpose of pre-pay and reserving a vehicle if Thrifty is not honoring their end of the contact?

Terrible customer service. We rented a car months ago. The Portland location didn't have a vehicle available in the economy size so we were required to upgrade. I was also told I was required to get insurance even though I have coverage. Turns out I didn't need insurance. Liars! Don't use them! Or don't fall for their lies!!

I made a reservation with Thrifty Car Rental. When I arrived Octobet in the evening I was told by Thrifty staff that Corporate had closed them because there were no cars and we would need to go to another company.I made a reservation 3 months in advance to have a car available when I arrived, not to need to reserve from somewhere else. Not only did it take me 2.5 additional hours to complete another reservation at a different agency but it cost me almost 2x the cost. My original reservation had been for $370; I ended up being charged at the second over $750.I had no choice as this was the only company with cars that evening and I NEEDED. It is not acceptable to not have a car available when one was reserved. Better management of stock of available cars seems essential and customers should not be put at a disadvantage. When a reservation cannot be honored, at a minimum Thrifty needs to assist customers in obtaining another reservation with the same rate. There is nothing acceptable about a staff simply stating they are closed and no additional assistance is available. Customers are clearly not valued at Thrifty. While I received a refund for money already paid to Thrifty, additional compensation from Thrifty seems only appropriate.I contacted Thrifty two times prior to receiving a response to my complaint and their offer was a $20 voucher, which is laughable in terms of financial compensation or any attempt to recognize inconvenience to customers or the unacceptable business decisions this company is making. When I responded,I received only an email response stated they appreciated my contacting them and hope they are able to serve me again soon. Given the number of other car rental agencies that exist you would think Thrifty would want to ensure customers continue to choose them versus guaranteeing that we will look elsewhere in the future by their lack of customer service. I will no longer rent from Thrifty and will widely share with those I know to choose elsewhere.

Never again they take advantage of people who have been on a plane for hours and get you to pay a lot of extra fees for things you don’t need and talk very fast to confuse you. Never again!
