1 starAbsolutely horrible experience. This is the short version but basically they gave us a super smelly car that broke on the 2nd day, to no fault of our own. The car stopped recognizing the key fob & 2 road side assistant workers, tow truck & even the rental car service Center could not figure out how to fix it. This meant the doors wouldnt open & the car wouldnt turn on, even though the car battery was full and fine.We were dealing with this for 5 hours in the direct sunlight with no food or water for 8 hours total. We were getting told so many different things from every different agent we spoke to, and ended up getting left stranded & we had to get an Uber to get a new car even though we were told we would get a ride to the rental Center. We were left without our belongings overnight because the back trunk wouldnt even open. We were first told to go to the service Center to get our stuff after it was towed, then they refused to give us the address & told us too bad you can just file a lost & found for your stuff & if it gets returned you can come get it. Luckily I had the tow truck ******** gave me the address. We ended up having to cut into 2 days of our 5 day trip just to deal with all this. We finally got our belongings after my husband showed them a ******* video of a technique to try & it worked. Before that they told us they would have to send the car back to the dealership with our belongings inside because no one knew how to open the trunk. After all this, the company has refused to give me a refund. They keep saying they apologize for my experience & first only offered me $18 for the Uber ride. When I said that isnt good enough they offered me a $50 voucher & then a $100 voucher. When I said my experience warrants a refund not a voucher, they finally offered a refund of a measly $55 to cover the gas we paidWorst ********************************* service experience of my life.Review fromCourtney C

1 starWe booked a car using credit card points. We didn't specifically choose Thrifty, but found out our pre-paid rental was coming from Thrifty after it processed. This is for the Thrifty at the airport in Maui. We get there, expecting a ***** 3 or similar and for it to already be totally pre-paid. We shouldn't have had to pay a dime.Of course, they tried hard to upsell us. We have insurance on rentals not only through our own car insurance company, but also from the credit card that booked the rental. We turned down ALL insurance and made the extremely clear with the pushy salesman at the counter. There was a long, long line of people behind us and we were given no time to review any contract or anything else we had to sign quickly. We get to the row of cars to choose from and there is nothing but Kias and cheap Fords. Nothing remotely similar to a "***** 3." Really annoyed, we picked the least damaged (they were all scratched up) *** and went on our way. After we return the car, we notice a $40+ PER DAY charge for "insurance" that hits our credit card. It was supposed to be prepaid. We turned down all insurance coverage. This bill didn't even list OUR name on it (someone else's). *** was happening? We called and were told it was a mistake and they would process a refund. 2+ weeks later and no refund has processed, so we call again. This time we're told it was in the contract we were rushed to sign and they would absolutely not, under any circumstances, refund our money.DO NOT RENT FROM THRIFTY. EVER. THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS WHO WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY.Review fromTrish B

1 starThey push extra costs, but are not forthcoming about it, they tried to up my bill by almost $700. Also, we needed to drop off at a different location 20 miles away. They were going to charge an extra $350 for this, whereas if it was booked on the website, it was a zero charge. Go elsewhere!!!!Review fromTe T

1 starMade a reservation for an SUV that stated a Jeep Compass or similar. Waited over 30 minutes at *** at the pickup counter and were given a Dodge Journey. The vehicle had a weird smell and many *********** on the interior and exterior, so we took photos before driving off the rental lot. Upon dropping off the vehicle, the intake employee accused us of damaging it. Had it not been for our quick thinking at pickup to take note of the damage, we would've been charged extra for damages we did not make. I reported the incident to Thrifty via customer support and through survey feedback but their response has been discourteous and dismissive. Thrifty has lost both my personal and professional business due to this experience.Review fromJeff P

1 starReserved a car in ************* and everything went fine. On the next leg of my trip I had a car reserved at *************************************. Accidentally went to the budget counter and when they realized I had reserved with Thrifty, they said good luck, they are going to tell you it is a 2 hour wait. Went to the Thrifty counter and, you guessed it, they did it would be a 2 hour wait (even though the reservation was for one hour before we arrived). Another customer was there and was very upset because he had already been waiting 2 1/2 hours. Went back to Budget and they gave me a car within 5 min.Review fromTerrell B

1 starI endured a 2.5-hour wait at the Oahu Honolulu airport, braving 95-degree heat. Regrettably, the staff exhibited a discourteous demeanor. The ordeal was not without consequences, as my wife and our 1-year-old daughter came perilously close to suffering from heat exhaustion during this prolonged wait. To compound matters, there were more than 50 customers ahead of us, all enduring the same protracted rental vehicle wait. This experience stands as a stark testament to the most unprofessional and uncomfortable rental situation I have ever encountered. Having traversed the length and breadth of America over the past five years, I can affirm that I have never borne witness to such a chaotic and ill-handled scenario. In my desperation to escape the sweltering conditions, I placed a call to customer service, seeking to cancel my reservation and secure an Uber ride. The service representative, regrettably, displayed a similar discourtesy and even sought to impose charges for the cancellation of a reservation scheduled for noon, despite the complete absence of available vehicles for hours on end. The situation was compounded by the fact that we were confined to the basement of a parking garage, adding to the discomfort and distress of the experienceReview fromWilliam M

1 starOn 9-14-2023 I had a car reserved at ther ***************. After checking in they told me it would be a 30MInute wait cuz they had no cars available..2 hrs later and no help I finally talked to an agent that said I could upgrade. The only vehicles they had was a SUV or Van and of course it was more momey. Now 3 hrs and no cooperation or compensation for the wait, I took the **** Of course another charge and hold on my credit card. Now over $600.00. When I got the car I noticed several scrathes and dents. The guy at the exit booth did not want to help me identify the damage and told me not to worry about it.. I will never rent from Hertz, Thrifty, Dollar again and recomend nobody does.Review fromJustin O

1 starBooked through Expedia with a pretty decent price but when I got there, the line was monstrous. The agent says "which plan would you like?" and gives you three options on a laminated sheet with no pricing information whatsoever. We went with "basic" of course. Well, that tacks on an extra $400 of optional extra charge. They wear you down with the long line and inefficient service, intentionally confuse you with quick paperwork signings not knowing which part is the original rental fee, which part is the deposit, which part is the original amount you paid for. You get through it all and you just want to get on with your life so they pocket the money. Not me. When I stormed back in and cut to the front of the line with the receipt and told the agent that she misguided me she was unrepentant and said, "if you didn't understand, you should have asked." But she gave me my refund so why was she arguing with me in the first place? Just say sorry and refund me! But she tried one last scare tactic telling me that if I use my own insurance (instead of the "basic" package) and there was any damage on the car, I had to rent the car for as long as it takes to repair! The nerve! The only other regret I have is not yelling to all those poor people in line, "THE INSURANCE PLANS ARE OPTIONAL, DO NOT BUY THEM!!" That probably would have cost them thousands. Oh, and the prepaid fuel is a scam too, because they pocket any leftover fuel you bring back.Review fromCarolyn S

1 starMade a reservation for an SUV that seats 7, reservations stated a Pathfinder or similar. When we picked up the vehicle, we were told we would have a Dodge Journey. A car we'd never even heard of. They wanted us to upgrade. We did not. The Journey is significantly smaller than a Pathfinder, for cargo and passengers. And the engine is a V4 vs a V6 in the Pathfinder. The safety features on the front two seatbelts were also broken. We found that out on the road. We will NEVER rent from Thrifty again and recommend no one else rent from them either.Review fromGlass D
