1 starI am in utter shock right now. I arrive at the Tampa Airport in Florida after a long flight to be told I cannot rent the car I reserved from Thrifty. The man I spoke with told me his name was William and that he was the manager. None of the employees had name tags on at the Thrifty airport car rental area. The man was black and bald. I did take a photo of him. He informed me that he could not rent to me because I have an expired driver's license. My license is from Texas. I am active duty military and informed him that I do not need to update my license per Texas law. I showed him my military ID card and he still refused to rent the car to me. So now I am in Tampa FL without a car. It is now going to cost me double to uber to the locations I want to go. I am utterly disgusted that he treated me this way. I have never had an issue renting a car before. I would like someone to call me ASAP about what happened.Review fromJeffrey E

1 starThrifty is not a legitimate company. I had prepaid for a compact sedan rental from 9/1 until 9/3 for a friend's wedding north of LAX. Once I arrived to the rental company location, there was a 2.5 hour wait. At the end of that wait, I was told at 3am, that there were no longer any cars available and that I would have to come back in "6 to 7 hours" despite the fact that I had already paid for a car. I have tried contacting Thrifty for a refund and have been thrown into never-ending loops of automated call options. This is utterly unacceptable customer service.Review fromCarrie T

1 starI am writing about my bad experience with Thrifty Car Rental, Confirmation Number is ***********. Unfortunately, my experience with Thrifty Car Rental did not go as planned. When I arrived at the rental location on 9/9/23, I was met with an unexpected and extensive line that resulted in a wait time of over an hour. Regrettably, I had a prior appointment that I needed to attend, and the lengthy wait made it impossible for me to pick up the rental car as scheduled. Due to the time constraint and the inconvenience caused by the delay, I had to seek alternative transportation from another car rental provider. Consequently, I was unable to utilize the services I had originally booked with Thrifty Car Rental. Additionally, I had purchased added car insurance coverage for this reservation. Given that the rental was never utilized, I believe it is only fair to request a refund for both the rental charges and the insurance coverage fees. I reached out to their customer service team to request a refund, and I was informed that a refund was not available. I must express my disappointment with this response, as it seems unfair to charge me for a service that was not provided, especially when the circumstances were beyond my control. I reached out to customer service and they were no help!!Review fromNicole K

1 starIn July 23 we were in the Sea/Tac airport and rented from Thrifty. I declined the loss damage waiver and road side service. They snuck it in and because I waited 1.5 hours to pick up the vehicle I did not pay attention to the final amount and signed the contact. My bad! However, they charged me a whole different rate, a late return fee (which did not occur) and added on to the taxes. When I called them out on it they did refund me a few hundred dollars. Each time I called back, I got a different story on what they would refund me, but they never refunded me what was truly due. I asked for a call log and recordings of my conversations and they do not have any. The call line does ring out of the country. This organization is the dirtiest I have ever seen.Review fromSheila M

1 starOn 9/2/23 we waited in line for 1.5 hours at Boston Logan to get our rental paperwork and were so excited to finally be getting our car. Little did we know that we had an additional 1.5 hour wait in the parking lot since they didn't have enough cars and were literally bringing them from the cleaning area 1-2 at a time. I have never seen anything like this and assumed it was due to a staffing issue. However, an agent at another rental company confirmed that the Thrifty line was always like this. I also spoke to a Thrifty supervisor who said it wasn't a staffing issue, it was just because they offer good rates through Travelocity. If you offer good rates, then most certainly you need to provide the staff to service those customers in a timely fashion. For the small amount of savings I received by booking with Thrifty, it was not worth the 3-hour hassle of picking up my car, especially while on vacation. I will never rent with Thrifty/Dollar/Hertz again.Review fromAmanda B

1 starZERO* I would NEVER recommend Thrifty! I go to pick up and the power was out so the woman asked if I was comfortable with her writing my card info down and running the amount later, I said yes. I checked an hour later and I was double charged, $518.32 twice. I called and was told that a refund would be issued asap, being a holiday weekend, I was in for a wait for the refund even though that was my spending/gas money for my trip! I struggled the entire weekend! Moving on, halfway to my destination, I notice a "maintenance required soon" alert and a low tire pressure light was on. So I had to stop every 75 miles and fill the tire with air (which was NOT always free)! On my way back home, I not only had to keep filling the tire with air, the "maintenance required soon" alert now became a "maintenance required NOW, see dealer" alert! Worst feeling ever to be on a road trip with a strange vehicle and this happens! I rented a car to have peace of mind, that is NOT what this experience did for me at all! So i make it home and go the next morning to return the car. Mind you, I just stopped and not only filled the gas tank up but also the tire that had plagued me the entire **** trip! I walk in to return the keys and tell the women about the double charge, the tire and the maintenance required now alert. They do apologize for the double charge and explain it will be **** business days for the refund, to which I said I understood that, just didn't understand how it happened in the first place. One woman goes out to "check" the car, comes back in saying that the fuel tank wasn't exactly on full, but just under it, so they will have to charge me $8.00 for a gallon of gas! THE ***** to act ***** over a very small amount of gas (which was used driving to them to return the car) when I was inconvenienced on so many levels at this point?! NEVER AGAIN!! I have received the $518.32 now but still feeling disgusted about my experience. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere that cares.Review fromShanell K

1 starDo not rent from Thrifty, at least not in the evening. We reserved a vehicle a month in advance. We also paid for the rental in advance. Finally, we connected our flight to the reservation so the company knew the status of our arrival. These actions meant nothing. When we arrived there were no rental cars available for me or the other people with a reservation. We were stuck at the airport. There wasn't a weather issue or any other extreme circumstance to explain why they didn't have cars available for those with a reservation. To make it worse, customer service was unsympathetic. It didn't matter that we were forced to rent a car from another location at significant cost. Ot didn't matter that it was late and the possibility of finding an available car was reduced. **************** didn't provide an explanation or even a discount voucher. They didn't attempt to assist us. They told us to come back the next day at 10 am and they would get us a car. Our desination was an hour away, how did they expect us to get to the destination and back to retrieve a rental car? It created a ***** start to our vacation. Thrifyy is not worth the cheaper price.Review fromMike G

1 starOn Saturday, September 9, 2023 B-Thrifty location at Boston Logan airport after taking over 50 peoples deposits refused to provide any cars. They did not want to work and simply told people at 12:30 AM that everyone had to come back at 6 AM. They refused to even allow people to cancel their reservations. The manager simply wanted to go home and didn’t want to work.Review fromTAMI C

1 starBAIT AND SWITCH!!! I prepaid through a 3rd party site for a "Wildcard" vehicle. According to Thrifty's site, I was guaranteed a compact car or a free upgrade. It also states I would be given the option to choose from what was available. Well, they tried to give me an EV (which is listed on their site as an upgrade) and I indicated that would not work since I was driving up to Oregon through the pass that evening. We were already a day into our rental period, as our flights had been rescheduled from the previous day. The counter clerk insisted that I either take the EV or pay $35 additional per day for an upgrade, which turned out to be a small European SUV. Since it was already 10 pm and I had a 5-hour drive ahead, I simply had no other choice. Unfortunately, they gave me an unsafe, poorly maintained vehicle. It almost broke down in the pass due to insufficient engine coolant (the reservoir was completely empty!) The red warning light came on first, and then a huge red banner lit up the entire dash screen, telling me to stop now and check the engine coolant. I pulled over and let the engine cool down before proceeding the rest of the way down the pass. Even worse, the windshield wipers were disintegrating and left lines and marks all over the windshield. It was raining and very foggy over the pass, so it put us in extremely dangerous conditions with low visibility and the threat of a breakdown. I had to call more than 7 times to get through to a tech with Thrifty the next day, leaving us without the use of a vehicle all day. Finally, I got through and the tech gave me permission to put coolant in the reservoir and drive it to the nearest rental place to exchange vehicles. There was no Thrifty at that airport, so they arranged an exchange with another rental company. I ended up paying almost $300 more than was advertised due to Thrifty's poor customer service and maintenance of their vehicles. So far, I can't even get ahold of anyone at Thrifty!Review fromAnna B

1 starHorrible! Rental process seemed ok, a few minor issues. Was told we were required to add an additional driver to use their credit card ( a different card was used in the same non drivers name for the reservation). Specifically asked if there was any charge for this, was told " no additional charges for adding a driver." Finish our rental and was charged almost the same amount for the total rental for "additional driver" and "extra day" fees. Only one adult was in the vehicle for the entire rental in addition to the vehicle being returned the same day as agreed, however it was put in the system as being returned the following day. After multiple phone calls, several which stated we would receive a refund, which never happened. A supervisor by the name of Ernie in El *******r, a Central American call center, argued with me that "it is in the contract that you signed, so the charges are valid." No refund can be given. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY...NEVER AGAIN
