Do not book a car through this company! If I could have given them a zero, I would have! I pre-paid my car rental and car insurance through Booking.com. When I went to pick up the car at ***************, Thrifty unknowingly charged me for insurance again. I did not realize it until I saw a $542 charge on my credit card for insurance once I had returned the vehicle. Now, I'm being told that they need to investigate the matter. Apparently, this insurance scam is common as I have read several of the other complaints below.

I have a major complaint and will be calling the better business bureau before the end of the day. My son secured a car a week ago for 10:00 am at Thrifty in West Palm Beach Florida. Upon his arrival and after paying over &600, he was told they do not have an available car and he would have to wait a minimum of two hours. NO ONE in Thrifty West Palm could help me and they not only stated that he would have to wait, but also told me this has been an issue for over 3 months. This is perhaps something that should be told to the customer when booking. This agent in West Palm also told me that there were no managers or supervisors in the building to assist me. I was guaranteed a call in 20 minutes, that promise was over an hour ago and I still have NO callback and my son still has NO car. I suggested the following, to which I was told “we don’t do that” 1. my son will take an Uber to Marriotts Ocean Point (not far away) and his car can be delivered to him when it’s in. 2. Give him another car of equal or better value and when his car is ready, one of your email employees can bring it to Marriott and swap it out. 3. Call another local Thrifty for a car and either have it delivered to that Thrifty or transport my son to them to get the car. All of these options, I thought, were pretty reasonable yet no one was willing to help or provide a manager or supervisor , Keeping in mind they already have over $600 of his money. I would like to how this is going to be rectified.

Had put money down for reservation In Sacramento Ca. No car available when I arrived said would have to wait for hours. I said ok due to price of rental. Was told i would need to purchase insurance I said no. Wanted to pay debit card was told 500 deposit would be needed. Had to rent from another place and cost extremely more. Want money difference in what I had to pay for another rental

I wouldn't even give them 1 star! They are a SCAM! I was given a 2022 Toyota Rav4 at the Orlando International Airport location with the engine light on. I did not feel safe driving it with my family, including my 1 y/o son in the back. I called customer service to exchange the vehicle for something safer. They told me I could exchange it at Daytona Beach Airport, I was given a vehicle way smaller than what I paid for. I dealt with that vehicle for over a week bc it was safe. Yet, when my vacation ended I called Thrifty, to explain I wanted to pay for a compact vehicle, since that I what I drove for the week instead of a SUV. THEY TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING TO THEM WHEN I NOTICED THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON IN THE BEGINNING.. Why would you give me a unsafe vehicle in the first place. Don't use them.. It's not worth saving $$.

Rented and paid in advance for an upgraded car. They didn't have it. Gave us a **** car for same price. Then charged us $83 for two tolls that should have been $10. Never again!

Thrifty Car Rental is an absolute SCAM. The dishonesty, lack of knowledge and response led to 2 girls being stranded on the side of the highway- ultimately putting our lives in danger. I reserved a Fuel Economy car from Thrifty, upon getting to my reservation there were no fuel cars left and only Electric Vehicles. The woman at the front desk informed me the battery took 32 minutes to charge, when it was realistically over 24 hours. We were driving from PDX to La Pine Oregon. By the time we reached the Electrical Charging station, the car was on 3% we charged the car for 3 hours and it only got us to 17%. As we needed the car, we used it and on our way back we stopped at a charging station which was dead. In an attempt to get it to one other charging station, the car ended up dying on the side of the road. We were unable to get any roadside assistance from Thrifty & ended up having to take matters into our own hands by getting our own tow. We brought the car to the charging station that was working but the battery was so dead it needed to be fully replaced or “jumped” by another EV. At this point we asked Thrifty to pick up the EV with a tow & drop off a fuel car to us. The manager at the Portland Branch agreed, then completely stopped answering us. I had over 50 calls and texts to the manager, customer service, PDX branch and NOONE could help. We had no way to move the car and ended up having to Uber to another nearby airport and rent another car through Enterprise (much better service!!) And the EV was left to be picked up by Thrifty. Not only did this completely ruin our vacation, Thrifty also put our lives in danger. cost us a ton of additional money. It has now been WEEKS with noone responding to my emails, continuous late charges, and my credit being impacted. I Will NEVER trust or use Hertz or Thirfty again. PATHETIC

Worst customer service ever at ohare international airport. Rude, unhelpful but ready to take your money. Would not accept credit card as security only debit cards. Paid $500 USD and it has been 10 days since we returned the car and still are yet to receive this back. Don’t ever use them. We had prepaid our car from Australia and I can say NEVER EVER AGAIN will I be using this company.

We prepaid for our car rental and when we went to pick it up, I had to sign a pad. We were never offered optional coverage and if we were, I would have declined it since I paid for optional coverage with the AARP Travel Center. I did not realize they would take my signature and attach it to optional coverage. They gave me a folder that I thought had a receipt in it. The mistake I made was trusting them not to screw me. They did not give me a receipt and I discovered after they sent an electronic version of my receipt, after I got home, that they charged me for optional coverage that I was not offered and did not request. When I called and complained, I was told there was nothing they could do because they had a signed receipt from me. If you are going to use Thrifty, make sure that you have a copy of your signed receipt BEFORE you leave the counter. Lesson learned. Goodbye, Thrifty. Never again!

I had the worst customer service in regards to renting a vehicle. I actually prepaid for my rental thst i picked up from the Atlanta Airport. When I arrived I was supposed to pay approx 115 canadian for my rental. The person that served me added on liability insurance although i had already paid insurance and had 65000 worth of coverage. He charged me to addy 31 year old daughter on as a secondary driver even though I requested he just switch it to her name as I didn't need to drive. There were a bunch of additional charges that were not explained to me that were processing fees over 100 us dollars. In total the rental cost me over 1300.00 canadian for a one week rental. I would never recommend renting from thrifty. I called in and was advised that if i was a loyalty member all those additional charges could be waived but the person who I spoke to was unwilling to try to rectify the situation at all. Also for context he said i signed for the renal and i had 4 children under 11 with me and had been traveling all day. Further to that the car i was given had a broken trunk which I advised the company of and noone cared. Do not waste your time with a company that does not value there customers.

We arrived at the Atlanta airport to pick up the car we advance booked. They had no cars available, and offered no help, just told us too bad. We went to AVIS booth next to Thrifty, picked up a car from them (cost more since it was not advance booked). Apparently it is common for Thrifty to overbook their cars, and it happens all the time that they run out. Happened to us twice. We no longer use Thrifty.
