1 starthrifty is the worst car rental ever! They scammed me out of 250 dollars by charging fees I did not agree to! They did not ask me about these fees or show me the total until they printed the receipt! *** tried to get my money back for a week now and they are full of lies and scams! Do not use them!!Review fromSusannah Z

1 starReserved an SUV with their Atlanta Airport branch using my saved Chase travel points because it was one of the only companies that my points were good for. After waiting in line for over an hour for the car, they demanded that I pay for insurance. I told them that I didn't need to do that as I had insurance through my credit card, but they told me that unless I paid for at least the Basic package ($416), then they would refuse to rent me my reserved vehicle. I was told, "don't worry, you get half back when you return the vehicle." I'm sorry, but being bullied into paying an unexpected extra amount at the last minute, and a large amount at that, is not ok. Since I didn't want the travel points that I had already redeemed to go to waste, I used my same Chase card to pay. After returning from my trip, I never got an email confirmation from them about returning the car. I then frantically search my credit card transactions to see if they kept the whole $416, but I come to find that the entire $416 charge had been removed by Chase (thanks, Chase)! Since my credit card company dealt and resolved the insurance charge issue already before I even asked, it seems that other companies are aware of Thrifty's shady nature. This whole experience, as well as the customer rating here of about 1 star, has me wondering how the BBB is rating this company at an A+? The rating of this company needs to be re-evaluated.Review fromAnthony L

1 starThrifty is the worst!!!! I was double charged for a rental and could not get anyone in the organization to offer any assistance. I was routed through non-working and/or disconnected phone numbers. Only response I received was that all the charges were accepted, even though they definitely were not. DO NOT USE THRIFTY!!Review fromMorgan B.

1 starSCAM. I dare you right now to try and get ANY supervisor of any kind on the phone. Cant be done. They dont exist. Ive scheduled three call backs and also waited on the phone for 30 minutes while they try and find someone to transfer me to and each time they say Im terribly sorry but we cant transfer you but we can schedule a call back in 72 hours WHICH NEVER HAPPENS. This is after the most ridiculous experience with renting a car Ive ever had in *********. BEWARE their employees at the counter will demand a **** credit card ONLY. He wouldnt take either of my Mastercard credit cards- it had to be ****. Now he tells us we in danger of losing our rental (leaving us stranded in ***** to have to rent a car on the spot when I paid months in advance already) so one of the people in our group has to put their **** down and he then makes the rental out to them instead of me. They happen to be 24 so now we get slapped with an underage fee of 40$ more per day. In total our fees and charges totaled 600$ when the price I was quoted was 242$. Overall this is a disorganized and manipulative company that will never do right by you and squeeze every last dollar they can out of you. I hope the BBB or whoever looks into the way they run their business and the fairness of it to consumers.Review fromGeoff M

1 starThrifty ****** ****************** Deliberately made my family wait for over three hours for a car reservation to be resolved. I feel some of their counter employees discriminated against me based off of age and race.I have contacted the company requesting a representative return my calls with no avail.Review fromSara W

1 starI rented from Thrifty at Detroit Michigan airport. I am receiving an email 10 days later the car has damage and asking me to file a claim when no damage ever occurred. It feels like a scam to get extra money....BewareReview fromMelanie P

1 starThrifty has been an awful experience in Dallas. My flight got delayed an hour. When we arrived to the counter to pick the car up they told us it would be a 4 hour wait. I couldn’t wait 4 hours due to the wedding. Stephanie, the employee, told me we could get a refund because of the wait. We had a tight schedule and couldn’t wait 4 hours. Due to the long 4 hour wait, we had to pay $140 at another car rental counter (which was WAY out of budget). So now not only are we out the miles we used to book thrifty, but we also paid $140. I was told by multiple parties that receiving a refund wouldn’t be a problem. 4 hours is in no way a reasonable time to wait for a car that we reserved months in advance. Now, thrifty refuses to refund me my miles even though they did not provide me the service promise. If you look at reviews, everyone says the same thing. Their wait times are always over 4 hours and they refuse to refund you. This company should do better.Review fromDana M

1 starWorst car rental experience - dishonest and unethical. We rented a car from Thrifty for a short trip in *******, ** this weekend. At ********** Thrifty counter, the male attendant didn't inform us that we were opting in to insurance coverage. His misleading verbiage was: "Do you want basic or X..." without informing us about what it was nor costs associated. We also mentioned my husband would be driving the car, & the attendant had my husband provide a signature & did not inform us of the additional driver charge. When we left the counter, the rental record quoted $343.18 (due to Loss ************************************ + service charges/taxes). Our initial quote when booking the rental via AAA was $167. I expected there to be a small variance when booking, but a $176.18 difference is absurd. When they scanned our car at the gate to leave Thrifty, our rental record then showed an estimate of $415.01 (additional driver charge + an odd increase in the service charges/taxes). So now the difference in what we were quoted vs. what we were expected to pay increased by $248 for a 2-day rental, which was MORE than the cost of our hotel room! I called customer service as we left the airport (12/9), to ask to waive the insurance. I received vague ************** said I couldn't dispute the charge until after my rental was completed due to how billing could only process a refund upon rental completion. I called billing on 12/11 to waive the insurance coverage prior to dropping off the rental, which they agreed to, but they couldn't waive the additional driver charge since he technically signed. Today (12/14), I received a call from Hertz (Thrifty's parent **** who said I was delinquent with not returning my rental on 12/11 (we dropped off the car on 12/11 w/ a Thrifty attendant who told us to leave keys in car & take off), which explains why they placed 3 holds on my CC totaling almost $1k. They emailed Thrifty to close my rental ********** ***** awaiting final confirmation.Review fromSteve P

1 starThis awful dishonest company charged me a smoking fee for a dirty car that did smell awful and wasn't even the class of car I had prepaid and reserve ahead of time. It was all they had and I was told to take it after waiting for over 3 hours. The counter lady told us to rent somewhere else if we didnt like it and i wish i would have. I returned the car and was told by the agent I was good to go. That was a lie. They sent me a bill for 400 dollars for a cleaning fee of this gross and "documented" dirty car. I called to dispute it, the first CSR was kind, said she would get it removed and not to worry. Second lie. I was charged 275 4 days later, an amount they have never explained. When I called about that they claimed it was fraud, there was no record and they didn't do it. 3rd lie. They had broken up the 400 into 275 and 125, for reasons they have never explained. I was told by their rep to cancel my card which I did. I was sent 3 separate letters saying I owe 125, each time I called, was told there were notes explaining it was invalid and it would be 0'd out. 4th lie. That never happened, the 3rd time I called the lady told me to pay or I would go to collections. Over a fraudulent charge. I asked to speak to a manager, was never sent to one or had one call me back. My 4th call back, ****** who was kind, said she saw all the notes, she would get it taken care of, I would not go to collections. 5th lie. On dec 7th, they sent me to ****** services, a collections agency to whom I had to pay 125 dollars to get it off my credit score. They also black listed me as though I did anything wrong. So now they have stolen $125 from me for damages I didn't commit and impacted my credit score. They are the definition of an awful company. DO NOT RENT from them. Give someone else your business or like me they will bill you for their awful fleet of c*** cars and put you in collections all the while acknowledging it "isn't valid" to begin with.Review fromTheresa F

1 starOn 10/05/22 I rented a car from Thrifty Car Rental at Raleigh Durham airport. At the time of rental, I was never told there would be administrative fees associated with tolls. I drove on a toll road for 5 minutes and have been charged $60.00 in administrative fees. The actual tolls are $4.31. I was charged $15.00 administrative fee every time I passed an exit. 4 exits in 5 minutes. Seems like excessive price gouging and taking advantage of an elderly person from out of state. I would not recommend this company and would like to have given negative stars if possible! Unfortunately, you have to give 1 star in order to leave your review. UGH
