I booked a car at ******* *********** rental centre for pick up Sept 26, 2022 with return on October 19, 2022. This was booked through my travel agent. It was also prepaid in the amount of $1,438.95. I get to the counter and I am told that my reservation was cancelled. It certainly was not done by me or my travel agent. It was done by Thrifty itself. They had my money but no car for me. My travel agent was able to book with another reputable car rental agency. As I paid with a credit card I was refunded the $1,438.95 but the other agency was more expensive by $567.00. Never never rent from Thrifty. They were ripping me off with no intention of any help from them and as car rental prices had increased from the time I had booked the car they were going to keep my money and rent the car out at the higher price to someone else.

This company was terrible and sneaky!! I told them I DID NOT need insurance and they slipped in on my bill and told me I was signing a general rental agreement to learn after it was for insurance! I actually told the guy twice at the counter that my personal car insurance covers ALL rental costs and he verbally confirmed no insurance then. When I asked for a refund they refused because I “consented” to the insurance but the screen I signed on DID NOT say insurance it said rental agreement! I will never use this company again! I had asked the guy at the time of return why the form he gave me said I was charged but he didn’t much speak English so he couldn’t help me and told me to “call” later and that was it!! Had I rented from Budget like I always sue they would have refunded me and made the issue right!

I rented and paid through a third party. Thrifty tacked on fees - insurance and roadside assistance - that I did not request. Mine is one among MANY reviews that will tell you the same thing about Thrifty - charges for services not requested. Thrifty is shifty.

Terrible place to rent from, very disorganized, rented from Thrifty in Kona,Hawaii for our honeymoon. Agent asked me if I wanted their insurance and I told him no I was covered by my insurance. Agent handed me a paper and said to sign to decline their coverage. The next day they charged 605.37 to my card. I called the company and told them and they said they would fix it. I was told I didnt need to go to the rental place, they would take care of it. A couple days later it was off my account. Then I returned the vehicle at the day and time I was supposed to. The day after I got home they charged me $605.37 again. I called them again and was told they would investigate and let me know in 7-10 days. After almost a month I called them back and first they said I would get it back. That didnt happen. I called again and talked to a supervisor and they said it was not approved. I asked to speak to someone above her and she refused to let me speak with her supervisor. My original rental was $400 but after insurance which I declined it cost me over $1k. Basically I was told , too bad I wouldnt get a refund. Very poor customer service.

Thrifty is a very corrupt rental car company. For just a 2 day car rental that was quoted online at $211, the charge grew to $499 at the rental counter!! This was partially due to the counter agent insisting (lied) that I had to purchase the insurance coverage -- that it was not optional. It turns out that the insurance coverage is optional. When I called them on that lie, they refused to adjust the charges to lower the rental fee. I called the Thrift national hotline number, and they would not help me!They insisted that I go back to the local rental office to settle it. When I did, they refused to correct the charges. So, if you want to pay $250 per day for a compact economy car, Thrifty is the place for you. If you want to be treated honestly, avoid Thrifty and its affiliated companies of Dollar and Hertz.

I will NEVER rent from thrifty or the entire hertz corporation ever again. They are a scam.My husband and I had a trip in ******* booked. We rented our car through Thrifty. Our fight landed at midnight, we get to the rental car office and THEY TOLD US THEY DIDNT HAVE A CAR FOR US!! How is that possible when we had a reservation?!The employees told us that there was nothing we could do and to contact corporate. There were MANY MANY people that were in the same ************** were told by the hotel we stayed at that this happens EVERY WEEKEND. There were limited hotel options, almost everywhere was booked since it was now 1 in the morning. Finally, we found a very expensive hotel since we could not get in anywhere else. Keep in mind we were also paying for the nights stay where we originally planned to stay 2 hours away as well. When we came back the next morning we were told the wait to get the car was 3 hours long at thrifty, so we went to National and they got us RIGHT IN. Super smooth and easy process. While Thrifty did refund the vehicle, it was not worth the stress and exhaustion we dealt with the night before plus having to pay for an expensive hotel.I have now contacted Thrifty corporate MULTIPLE TIMES & have been told MULTIPLE TIMES that I would receive my reimbursement for the hotel in several days and it has never come. It is now October and this took place in July. I just got off the phone with customer service AGAIN & once again they told me they would call me about the reimbursement. I have given them my bank info multiple times to process the reimbursement because they keep saying that is all they need, yet some how every time that Ive called, they say they never got it.Fed up with them and will never book through them again.Do not book with them unless you want an unreliable company and to pay more.

Horrific experience! Do not rent from thrifty. My husband rented a car for ONE DAY for $80 at the Raleigh airport location. Checked our credit card and we were charged $800 for ONE DAY! After unsuccessfully calling Thrifty to resolve error, we ended up disputing the charge with our cc and the charge was removed. Now we have a bill from thrifty for you guessed it, $800! We can pay it or they’ll send it to collections. With a perfect credit score we’re essentially being blackmailed because they incorrectly charged us. Who in their right mind would pay $800 a day for a Honda Civic? I will never rent from thrifty or Hertz (same company) again.

      1. Thrifty Customer Service tells you SFO Drop Off opens at 6:30 AM no exceptions. It doesn't it opens at 4:00 AM. I rebooked my airline ticket for a later flight (cost $161) because I was given this INCORRECT information! 2. They charge $15 administration fee for each toll plus the toll. $7 + $15 or $22 to cross a bridge in the Bay Area. NOT DISCLOSED! 3. Thrifty is owned by Hertz ! They will rip you off any chance they get.

I reserved a Post Office car 3 weeks in advance I get to the airport Tulsa Oklahoma MA they told me that my car was in B52 spot I go there it's a small S UV not a full size car like I reserved I go back to try to talk to the lady to explain it that I need the rear seat room because there will be 5 adults she said it's a free upgrade at no cost I appreciate that but that's not what I reserved I need the back seat room that's why I reserved a full size car for the back seat room She said I'm sorry that's all I have I have nothing else It's 630pm we have to leave at 4am the next morning 3 elder adults seating in the back on a super small rear seat that is like seating on a park bench for a 10 hour drive one way and me being 6ft4" with seat moved half way up I was hurting after trip, The car was dirty inside had to clean the windows inside so I could see out, wiper is broke. When I tried to find the lady again couldn't find her anywhere didn't have time to try another rental company I had to ready to leave, after are return they said should have said something when picked up, I did. And was told go to Orbitz where you reserved it through they called Thrifty and was told same thing I got a free up grade with I didn't as far as I'm concerned, but will offer me a $50. Off my next rental, no sorry not good enough for pain I gad to endure for the 21 round trip drive.

Terrible - will never rent from them again. Prepaid for a mid sized economy car. Landed at ****** and after waiting in line for an hour was told there were no cars and it would be another hour. Had no choice but to upgrade to the only car they had, and they charged us for the upgrade! Terrible!
