I am very disappointed in this company. My book was published in 2017 and here it is, 2023 and I never once received one royalty church, not one single Penny. Do not do business with them. My book is listed all over the world; I have been told by many many of my friends they purchased my book. Where is my royalties? I did business with Tate publishing in 2005 on my first book; a few book signings, never once, received a penny in my royalties. I looked up Tate Publishing on Google; and saw Why. How terrible; and claiming to be a good Christian book company as Xulon. I was never even sent any information to get in to class action law suit on time in 2019. I just bought my own book back for 30.00 from a book shop in another state paying 6.95 ship it; I originally gave it to my friends In Lancaster, Pa.I am not upset or angry, just Hurt. I read other poor Author’s reviews and we all need to come together to investigate Xulon/ Salem Press. I gave this already made many contacts on my end. I'm sorry for your disappointment in the self-publishing and distribution process. We have been reaching out to you by telephone and email for a while now, and you have chosen to not respond. I'm sorry you have decided the public forum is the best way to communicate instead of responding to any of our communications. But to clarify, we are not related in any way to Tate Publishing, nor is there any need for a lawsuit. Our goal is to publish good books, educate authors on their individual self-publishing journey, and facility the distribution of their finished product. Royalties are paid to each author for every book that is printed and distributed, however, if that same book is re-sold at any other price than the suggested retail price, we are not responsible for that. That is the bookstore or seller's right. We welcomed an opportunity to investigate your book's sales with you and await your direct contact with that goal in mind.Review fromJohn A

My experience with Xulon Press was very good. Occasionally, it was necessary but easy to find someone to help me with questions to which I didn't know the answers, but it came out well with the publishing of my book. Robert M. was extremely patient and helpful to keep me on track. Xulon Press is a firm I would be glad to tell my friends to use!!Xulon Press

I had a great experience working with Xulon Press. My representatives, Robert M, Nina S, and Kim S were all very responsive and very patient. They answered all of my questions and worked with me every step. In searching for publishers, I was somewhat unsure about Xulon because many reviews said they had trouble contacting anyone once they had purchased a publishing package. But my experience is the opposite of that, and I'm very happy that I am self-published through Xulon but Xulon is able to do much of the work that goes into publishing a book for me, so that I did not have to learn or worry about every aspect.Xulon Press

I had my book published with Xulon Press in 2017.. since to date, Oct. 17,2023 I have never received one royalty check; not a penny. This is fraud! I have been selling my book all over the world and now see it is available for 40.00 in one book store. Are they going to do to me the exact same thing that Tate Publishing had done to me on my first book; no royalties and the owners received prison time and 4 felony charges, extortion. All is Authors who have been swindled by this company need to come clean now. Ty.Xulon Press

First, I am sorry for the frustration this situation must be causing you. After having a terrible experience with a previous publisher, I am sure you are more sensitive to and wary of anything that looks similar. While we are both self-publishing companies creating and distributing faith-based literature, we are NOT the same. Next, I have reviewed your account and have noted several times your account manager has communicated with you regarding your royalties and concerns. Team is the right term for each leg of the journey. When one segment was complete a new Team stepped in and practically held my hand and so it went through the whole process. Have not yet received a book so not entirely finished but so far so good. I'm just amazed that it could happen at all and of what I've seen of the entire project it looks professional and I like it.
Only issue I will know to look at more closely is the marketing aspect. I'm still not sure how that goes but there have been just a couple of things I misunderstood, though it was in writing. Best advice there is to read closely and ask questions, don't just assume anything. That's true for anything involving a signed agreement so not news or negative. My experience so far has been really great and I appreciate all the folks that talked me through the process and I appreciate them all, one by one.Xulon Press

There was confusion over the expectation that It'd look "exactly" as I wanted it at first. My original representative was moved, and I was assigned to someone else. That also meant re-explaining everything to her. Nina Sterling was very sympathetic and communicated with production (a few times) to iron out the wrinkles. Ultimately, she proved spectacular and got me what I was looking for. I even thank her by name in the book's forward, along with the production team, for their hard work.
I was then handed over to Priscilla Hernandez, who, after I found some discrepancies but had already approved the interior, saw to the correction of those (not obvious but annoying) typos and contacted me to let me know they are being addressed for future copies.
Today, I couldn't be more satisfied. In the providence of God, everything eventually came to fruition perfectly and, in no small part, because of the hard-working staff. You'll hear from me in a couple of years to publish my next book.Xulon Press

They were not upfront and honest from the beginning. It felt too good to be true when getting everything squared away and setting up a publishing packet for my brand new book. It felt too easy. I’m too trusting, especially since they made themselves out to be this “amazing, helping Christian company who goes out of the way for their fellow believers.” Even gave me the “pastoral discount.” Wow. SO AMAZING. Right? No. I keep encountering issues where I owe more and more money. Yes they have payment plans without interest and that was nice. But that’s it. There’s random pieces to their publishing plans with fine writing attached that if you don’t pay attention to, will miss that you’ll end up owing money for. Completely sleazy and not Christlike at all!
Oh and the editing was BOGUS. I did a way better job editing my manuscript than they did. And I had TWO editors like they recommended.
Don’t let the term Christian or how everyone “loves” working there fool you. They’re all about the money and sales… not about you.Xulon Press

I appreciate your initial thoughts that when something seems too good to be true, many times it is! The reality of the self-publishing industry is that it is a lot of work, whether you pay a company to assist you with the process or try to go it alone. Writing the manuscript is challenging enough, so when you find an organization that seems to "fit" your needs, you will gravitate in that direction. What you initially experienced was real. However, the challenges that can present themselves throughout the publishing process are real as well. Producing a beautiful book like yours is just the beginning; then there is navigating the marketing, distribution, and management of "your business" that every author must contend with.
From my research of your account, I can see where you encountered challenges, but you never mentioned a dissatisfaction with your editing job. If that were the case, we could have made it right.
While your publishing challenges were not created by us, we do have answers that can help you understand and overcome them! You have an Account Representative who would be happy to assist with this part of your journey as an author. You reached out to him once in September 2022 and he provided all of the detailed information you needed - and even offered to set a time to speak with you to guide you further. That's what we offer all of our authors.

Thank you for your reply, although its taken me nearly 2 years to reply as well. Youre correct in all that you shared. I was naive and just didnt do the appropriate research before so I understood what I was doing. I was angry when I shared this review, but mostly at myself for just being like, Wow, this is awesome! without really looking into the details of the publishing plans or anything else offered. You all HAVE been helpful overall and I appreciate it when you answered my questions, even if I had to do a follow up email here and there. I may use you guys in the future for other books Im currently working on as I did appreciate how easy you all made it be, but I may also do a bit of research before just to make sure Im making the correct decision. In regards to the editing, I felt like I couldnt say anything otherwise Id have to pay more for it to be fixed. You all didnt say this, but thats how it felt. Next time Ill be more assertive.
