On 09/08/2023 we signed a contract with Reece Windows on installation of 6 windows across the house with the total contract cost of $15,154. At the time of signing we paid a deposit of $250. The signing party from the Reece Windows is ************************Please find the contract attached. In 09/13/2023 Reece Windows made a financing loan application on our behalf approved with *************** Please find the loan agreement attached. On 09/16/2023 I was contacted by *********************** with a request to pay more money for already signed contract. He requested approximately $2,000 in additional costs. On following day I asked for a new estimate with one of the windows to be removed from the estimate to keep the costs under previous budget but got an estimate that was even HIGHER than the one before ($17,454.00). The Company started to price ***** me AFTER the contract was signed!I didn't sign the new estimate with Reece Windows and asked for a refund of the $250 deposit.Reece Windows stopped communication with me since then. When I call their offices the calls are either dropped, a person taking the call can't help, if a voice message is left nobody is ever returning a call. *********************** is not returning calls and is not responding to the messages neither.I'm asking for either:- completion of the signed contract;- official cancellation of the signed contract with mailed cancellation notice with the deposit refund.Business Response

Modernize/Angies list has a website where homeowners can put there information in to be contacted by home improvement companies to sell them new windows and doors. This person went on there website gave all there info to them then modernize/Angies list sold the customers info to us and we then called them. If they had bothered to answer the phone and say they were not interested we would have stopped calling. He gave permission to be contacted by us and other companies. This is not a true valid complaint and needs to be removed from our records. We have marked him in our system as to not contact them anymoreInitial Complaint

Yesterday (6/18/23) my dinner was again interrupted by one of this company's door to door salesmen. i have two clearly posted NO SOLICITING signs on my house. I have tried to work with this company about this, calling them, emailing them, contacting the local sheriff about soliciting violating companies. The salesman (***********************, according to his name tag) ignored the signs, claiming he didn't see it, though it was on the entrance wall at the same level as the door bell he rang. I have also filed a previous complaint with the BBB about this same issue.Business Response

I did a very large project with this company - replaced 18 windows. A month later, I contacted the owner to let them know that two-thirds of the windows are leaking. The owner of the company is being unresponsive over email and phone.I have reached out to Reece Windows and Doors several times over a course of 6 weeks. They are ignoring my request to fix the issue or even to communicate.Business Response

We did install the windows at this address, when we finished the job we were giving the run around for the final payment. after months of trying to get paid we received a letter from ********************** stating that she had to have stucco repair done to finish the job which was never mentioned to us nor did we get a chance to see what she talking about. with the letter was her proposed settlement offer and a check but not for the full balance. because the job is unpaid her contract states that there is no warranty until paid in full. also there is no way so much water can enter a home unless you did not close and lock the window properly and then take a hose or pressure washer directly to the windows and then water will pour into the home just like the photos provided. Reece did perform the work to all state standards and we are done with the job. if ********************** would like to pay the balance of the money owed to us we would come and take a quick look to make sure that her stucco workers did not cover the weep holes up and that her painter who pressure washed the house and windows did not do any damage to the cualking around her windows until then we are completed with our work and we know for sure the work is proper as it also passed final inspection.Customer Answer

Complaint: 20187536
I am rejecting this response because:1. The job was paid in full less $1300 reserved to fix damages done to the house by the window installer within 20 days of completion (I am attaching an acceptance of settlement from Reece dated on 4/25/2023, which is only 20 days after the job was completed, not "months" as stated in their response).
2. No work had been done to the house after Reece Builders. I am holding on to the $1300 to complete the repairs, but I have not had them done because the window installation is incomplete.
3. All windows were closed and locked during the storm. Photos are not photoshopped nor in any way augmented. I can state this under oath.
4. No pressure washing has been applied to the windows. All photos were taken directly after a regular ******* storm, which these windows are meant to protect from.
As evidenced, Reece Builders is continuing to misrepresent the truth and underdeliver on their promises, as from day 1 of my interaction with them.
My next step, as advised by my attorney is to retain a third party company to assess the extent of the needed repairs. I am also in contact with the city of Wellington, which performed the house inspection.
Sincerely,

I recently filled out a form for a sweepstakes promotion for free windows or doors from Reece. The minute I submitted the form, they began spamming me with phone calls, texts and emails to set up an appointment for a quote to do work. I politely declined and let them know that I never requested a quote or to go into business with them. I just wanted a shot at winning the sweepstakes. I have been harassed daily since then. I asked them to stop calling and they began talking about the quality of their products. Scam! Please stop harassing people.Business Response

Transaction occured on 7/20/2020. A deposit of $5,000.00 check number **** was accepted by their sales lady *************************** and later cashed. When ***** came to our house it was to get a quote for hurricane windows and doors. Upon entering our house she said I never discourage a customer from buying hurricane windows and doors but you have these great hurricane shutters, I am going to give you a price of non hurricane products, it would be a waste of money to spend it on hurricane windows and doors when you have such good shutters. She kept telling us (my wife ****** and I) how great our shutters were and she suggested we would be fine with non hurricane glass and our shutters. Total cost of job was $32,000.00 minus the $5,000.00 deposit. Months pass and we get a call from ***** telling us they couldn't get the permit from the county and that they have already built all the windows and doors and did I know if the shutters were permitted. As I told her when she arrived at our house the shutters were here when we purchased the house. She said people in her office have spent days looking and can't find when they were installed nor any permit for them.I told her I don't know anything about that and that she said they were great. Several more calls from her and getting nowhere one of the "owners" of the company called and said the shutters were not permitted so they are going to install steel panels up on the sliding glass doors so they can get the permit. I told him we are in our seventies and I don't want to have those things on my house. He said I don't care. You can throw them out after we get the permit and inspection. I asked him what did you say and he repeated it! I called the county permitting Department and the gentleman I spoke with told me their permit was denied and they should have applied for permit before they built the product. I went on county website and found shutters on original permit for my house, **** build. Deposit never returned.Business Response

This response was taken verbally by BBB:
The customer signed a contract and materials were ordered. We have the materials sitting in our warehouse. The customer is wanting to cancel the contract which has penalties. I offered to keep the deposit as the penalty even though the actual penalty would be more. We also offered a few options to resolve the concern with the shutters and finsh the project. One was the steel panels the customer mentioned, but the other was to re-work the existing shutters and bring them to code. The customer refused both offers. We are still willing to install the purchased windows and re-work the shutters to bring them to code.

I am rejecting this response because: The contract was entered into on July 30th, 2020, with a deposit of $5000.00. *************************** was the salesperson who told us "I never tell people not to buy non-impact windows but for you it really would be a waste of money. You have hurricane shutters that look great and non-impact windows would save you lots of money." So based on her recommendation we ordered the non-impact windows.September 23, 2020,
at 8:06 P.M. she had called and left a message that she had called several time and left messages and needs me to call her back, very important about our windows. I only had one message from her which I still have. I returned her call, and she said nobody can find the permit for our shutters. Several people and many hours have been spent looking and it can't be found. Did I know about the shutter permit. I told her as I did in our original conversation they were with the house when we purchased it. I would try. Her number ************. I make a couple of calls and found the shutters were on the original permit for the house which was built in 1992.I called the county. Their permit was denied, I believe 46 days after signing with them. I don't remember signing a N.O.C. with them.
October 28, 2020, ***** from ***** called left message which I still have, stated that "we are currently working with the permitting department to get your shutters added to existing permit. ************". I called the county permitting department no application for permit has been received from them other than the denied one. I have this voicemail as well.
November 3, at 4:33 PM ************************* called from ***** about window order and was very abrupt and pugnacious. He pretty much demanded we accept steel shutter panels so that they can get the permit. I told him my wife and I are in our seventies and cannot be lifting heavy panels. According to their contract only work stipulated in contract would be performed. He said "I don't care if you throw them out after we get the permit, but we are getting this done." I told him we have roll downs and accordion shutters and that's the only ones we would accept. He stated he wasn't spending that kind of money on this job. I called the charlotte county permitting office and spoke with ******************* who told me, sounds like they are trying to get it done anyway they can, but no new permit has been issued. I have Mr. ******** message as well. Contrary to ********************** claim no option other than the steel panels was offered. Through this entire process we have felt bullied and taken advantage of, the BBB is our last resort effort to recover our deposit.
