Wanted to do a change of address and went to the site I thought was the usps. Went to check out and was charged $179.99 instead of the $1.10 that the usps actually charges. Apparently I'm not the only one that has fallen for this scam

Went to what I thought was usps site for mail change and got charged 179.95.

The cost should have been 1.05.

18APR2023 I put in a COA with who I thought was USPS, but later found out was a pop-up from one of the many entities used by one 'Postal Address Change Services', located in Coeur D Alene, Idaho. Company disguises itself as a 3rd Part affiliate to USPS. Uses pretty much the same format as USPS. Collects a fee to verify your address. Unfortunately, they collect a $179 fee to change your address. Thankfully my banks' fraud department caught this and placed a hold on payment. I had to cancel my card due to this and have noticed that USPS, even after submitting a legitimate COA with them, still has no COA transaction on file with them.
This has me worried that somehow this third party has access to USPS software. This shows a weakness in USPS security and am not too happy someone like USPS is not taking this seriously. A fraudulent entity is using the USPS likeness, which is property of the US government, to operate a scam.

On 4/30/23, a fraudulent charge of $179.95 appeared on my account by vendor “CHANGE-TO USMAIL ONLINE XXX-XXX3797” after I had attempted to update my address with the US postal service. The fraudulent website appears like a legitimate representation of usps.com, but then tricks users into providing debit/credit card info as proof of identity to complete the update.
The transaction “receipt” was emailed from [email protected], and even includes a legitimate confirmation number from USPS, submitted by “[email protected]

I thought I was on the USPS website and I was paying $1.10 to verify my identity. A couple days later I get a 179.95 charge from them and I realized it was a phishing site. I work in IT and normally would not fall for something like this. There was no mention of $179.95 charge when I submitted my card info. I had to redo my debit card and now change all my online purchases to the new one. Also the next day I started receiving a lot of "moving" related spam to that email address so I will likely be changing it as well. Yes, the mistake was mine but this is a scam and needs to be shut down.

Got charged $179 dollars, basically from USPS. They know about this scam and let the website take money while victims think they are working with USPS.
BBB, you know about it but don't stop it while innocent people loose money. What is the point of having the BBB?
Shame to USPS and BBB for not stopping this. Give us our money back ASAP, non of your red tape BS.
