1 starIf I could give this insurance company zero stars, I would.
Their website claims they’re “in the business of helping people,” but they certainly didn’t help me—not even close.
I own a small business with a fleet of about 15 drivers. One of our vehicles was rear-ended by a State Farm-insured driver, causing significant damage. State Farm deemed our vehicle a total loss and offered a payout that was $5,500 less than what we owed. Their valuation came from a third-party company that conveniently produced a much lower “market value” than the actual worth of the vehicle.
What’s more concerning is how they manipulated the data. Nearly 90% of the comparables they listed had an asterisk next to them—indicating they weren’t even used in the final valuation. I submitted over 10 legitimate comparables showing a higher value, and every one of them was rejected without reasonable justification.
The end result? My business was left to absorb a $5,500 loss due to their lowball tactics. This experience was not only frustrating—it was financially harmful. I will never use State Farm, and I will strongly advise anyone shopping for insurance to steer clear.Review fromEllen S

1 starFor 13 days , I have been on the phone over a total of 8 hours being LIED to by many people about my claim. I have been with State Farm for over 50 years but that will terminate soon. I have been scolded by Elisha, and lied to by Dave, Charlotte, Juan, among many others including Sean D*****. Tonight I was now told that the request for Express ????had not been submitted correctly per John who was called by Collin on my behalf,so the car has sat there since 6/17. The car was originally to be towed on 6/13, but State Farm messed that up.If I had a dollar for every blatant lie I was told, I could by a new car. When I mentioned that even my insurance man has called, I was told ,Well, he can't only write policies! Meantime, we are paying close to $1000 for a rental car for my son to go to work and drive 140 miles to get his chemo that was scheduled. At this point, I am beyond disgusted, depressed, and angry. I am paying a large bill every month, never missing a payment.Review fromKeny M

1 starWe have been State Farm customers for over 30 years. We’ve always paid our bill on time and in good faith. In March of 2025, the area that we lived in had a bad storm with hail and tornado activity. We are talking close to 3 inches in size. The hail was big enough to bust out my neighbor‘s windows of his bathroom.
It was so bad that I had roofers in my driveway the following morning, wanting to climb up on my roof and give me quotes. We hadn’t even had a chance to see the roof yet.
We filed a claim with State Farm. They agreed to take care of the vehicles. But they would have to send an adjuster to the house to look at the roof.
After having three separate R***** adjusters (apparently State Farm doesn’t send their own people), come to our house and take pictures of the damage, they have decided they are not going to pay it because it is defective shingles and not hail damage. Keep in mind that the majority of my neighbors had to have their roofs replaced, not to mention garage doors and windows. I’m guessing none of them were “insured “ by State Farm..
From what I’ve been reading, State Farm has developed a habit of telling people to take a hike. I cannot believe that what used to be a reputable company has gone downhill so much.
And when you try to get a hold of someone there, good luck. I don’t care which number you call, you get the same recording, wanting you to send a fax or go online. You can hear it in any language you want, but you sure can’t talk to an actual person.
Luckily, my local agent‘s office still believes in customer service. They are the only way that I can talk to a live person. I have absolutely no complaints about them. I would give them a five star review. But as far as State Farm corporate goes, I would not recommend them to anyone.

1 starDealing with StatFarm for a fire claim that happened in my home. I was tasked to get a tax and demo for from StatFarm to be filled out. I went to the treasures office at City Hall to get proof I do not owe any property taxes to only have them tell me the system is down and that I would have to pay $37 for their form because they cannot use the form StateFarm provided. I would also have to wait 7-10 business days for the paperwork. I then traveled to the City of Chicago Dept of buildings to get the 2nd portion of the form for demolition signed. Guess what happened? I got turned away because I am in an unincorporated township and that is not cook county, I am cook county. The gentleman then stated he keeps telling StateFarm to stop sending people there and yet they are still doing it. He told me to try my village township to get answers. I did and got no where, my village hall has tried to help me more than StatFarm has. They had friends at cook county and made some phone calls. I got no where. I can’t get ahold of my claims specialist on the phone or anyone at StateFarm. I sent an email and I am waiting for the response. I can not get anything started till I have this tax and demo form filled out and StateFarm has me running around on a wild goose chase before i can even get an estimate for the damages.Review fromHenry G

1 starWell, it seems State Farm are actually neighbour's from h*** and will not be there for you. If you're looking for insurance that you can rely on when accidents happen, don't choose State Farm.
They kicked us off auto insurance after an accident and didn't even have the courtesy to call and let us know. Honestly, after reading all the far worse bad reviews and complaints we're lucky to escape them. Choose a different insurance that you will feel comfortable paying for knowing they will have your back - apparently State Farm doesn't operate this way. I would pick 0 stars if I could.Review fromDeb B

1 starContacted this company through Bri Bosch Agency and I was going to actually get them to ensure me. Gave them information and told them what day date to actually start the process confirmed the date several times with the agent he repeated it several times and confirmed it but when we hung up, he went ahead and started it right then and there well all it did was mess up my financial account that I went through. Immediately the next day I found out and called and supposedly it was stopped they lied, of course, and it took almost a month to get my money back. The agency kept lying. Every step of the way I was lied to there were approximately 37 phone calls made to the agency by me. They called me back occasionally when they are asked to maybe 10 times they called back but every time I spoke with them they lied. Eventually I got to talk to Bri again and again, she lied every time I talked to her. I threatened to sue and she had to come back just to try to keep me calm. I should’ve sued. I did get most of it back all but the overdraft fee, which, of course she said that she would make good, but she did not. Make a long story short. I’m gonna finish here but do yourself a favor ,DO NOT trust State farm insurance. It’s a scam outfit.Review fromDenise P

1 starThis is my second homeowner's insurance claim. Due to all the recent rainfall, I filed a claim because parts of the slate foundation my house is on are damaged. I contacted a company that specializes in leveling foundations. My house is four inches off from another part. I received approximately $11,000 to $12,000 quote. I have sent emails and taken pictures; the corner of my living room floor has water damage. I kept checking the claim status online. My husband mentioned that they have tried contacting him, but he works long hours, mostly seven days a week, and cannot answer calls. Since I cannot get someone on the phone, I emailed claims asking them to contact me, as I am the one who filed the claim. However, it has been weeks, and today I received a call from Brandon S**** who left me a message. I called him back about 3 times, but he didn't answer, so I left a message. He has not returned my calls. I went online now my claim is closed. I called him towards the end of the day wanting to know why it's closed, but there was still no callback.
The first homeowner's insurance claim I submitted years ago was due to a severe storm, possibly with a tornado warning in Rome, GA, which brought powerful rain. It damaged the fiber cement siding; some cracked, some fell off. I submitted the claim with pictures, and the next day, I received a phone call from a claims representative. He asked if this was my first claim, and I said yes. He stated that he had reviewed my claim but it could not be approved. I asked why, since my siding is damaged due to the weather, and he said that unless a tree falls on my house, then they can do something. I was infuriated. I had to get financing to pay for the siding, and I did my roof at the same time. I am still paying for it.
In summary, the homeowner's insurance with State Farm is unsatisfactory. I'm going to look for another company. They are eager to take your money but when you need help, they seem indifferent.Review fromPenny R

5 starsI have had State Farm for 20 years. I think it depends on the individual agent or claims adjuster. They really are a very good insurance company. I’ve had an auto and a homeowners claim. I’m not talking about a small claim. My vehicle was totaled and my whole basement flooded. I couldn’t be more pleased with their service and timely response.Review fromFrank S

1 starI was rear ended by their insured driver and they will not pay to get it fixed. I took it to their preferred collision center and they got the okay to start on the repairs and then after they started and ordered the part Statefarm came back and totaled my van. Now they ate holding my van hostage and refuses to contact the collision center. After 3 weeks the collision center gave my van back to me but after numerous temps to contact claims they will not call me back. I think they do tbis to not pay anything out. They are crooks and at this point my van is crashed and probably will not receive any money to get it fixed. Exactly what they are doing. Such crooks.Review fromDavid W
