For some reason career builder has restored a canceled account. I am being flooded with emails for jobs from ******* when I haven't lived there for 14 years. I've asked twice for them to cancel my profile and they've said they don't have to honor my request. Why are they allowed to put false information out there and allow people to contact me when I don't even live there?Business Response
Date: 05/20/2025
Hello and thank you for reaching out. I do not see any contacts in our CRM from your email address nor do I see an account in our system with that email. Is there another email that could be associated?
In terms of service denial, can you forward us screenshots of the messages you are referencing where CB support denied the delete request? Please make sure to include the email headers.
Thank you very much.Initial Complaint

I logged on to Career builder a couple of weeks ago to look for jobs after several years of inactivity. I have been receiving phone calls, emails and text messages from scammers like crazy. Now my personal information is all over the internet. I have tried to delete my account to no avail. What they're doing is criminal in my eyes. I never gave permission for my personal information to be sold and it obviously has been. I WANT MY ACCOUNT CLOSED IMMEDIATLY. I also want Career Builder to change how they're selling people's information without their knowledge.Business Response

I am filing this complaint against CareerBuilder due to their deceptive business practices, broken promises, and failure to honor their commitments, which have caused me significant financial and reputational harm.Summary of Events:I was operating an agency and actively hiring employees when I was approached by CareerBuilder, who offered their services to assist in scaling our recruitment efforts. During a phone call, CareerBuilder's sales representative explicitly guaranteed that they could deliver a specific number of recruits per month. This promise was a key factor in my decision to move forward with their services.Based on this guarantee, I signed a contract for $10,000. However, once the contract was signed, I was informed by CareerBuilder that they could not, in fact, guarantee anything. This was a clear case of bait-and-switch tactics. I was misled into entering a financial agreement based on false promises.Following this, I was promised by ******* ******** that they would cancel the account or move it over to another service due to their acknowledgment of the wrongdoing. Despite these assurances, the account was never canceled, and a year and a half later, CareerBuilder sold my account to a collections agency. The collections agency is now pursuing me for the unpaid debt, which was generated under unfair and deceptive circumstances.I have email correspondence and phone records to support my claims, including the confirmation from CareerBuilder representatives that the account would be canceled or changed to another plan, which was never carried out. ****** ******* told me she would cancel my account over the phone, but did not when I asked her to do so.I desire a full cancellation of this debt, for CB to acknowledge their bait and switch tactics and wrong doing. Attached is just one screenshot of a promise to change products and cancel existing invoices that never happened.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:I have added additional documentation.
The screenshotted email is in response to a phone call I had with ****** saying she would get my account cancelled because of the bait and switch tactics that were used to close me into a year long contract with Career builder. I was told I was guaranteed a certain number of applicants and resumes per month on my initial sales call, and when I signed and had my first meeting, I was told that that was not the case and would not be the case moving forward. Please cancel my account, and the collection placed on my company, and close out this case. Thank you.
Sincerely,
******* ******Business Response

Complaint: 23275631
I am rejecting this response because:Here is an email response to ****** from less than a month into our contract where I ask her to cancel our account because we were sold something that was not true. I had been bringing this bait and switch up to my account managers from the start, and I was promised it would get cancelled, then ********, my final account manager told me he would exchange my product, which he did not. This has been nothing but swinging me around and it is very dissapointing. I would like to get this collections removed.
Sincerely,
******* ******Business Response
Date: 05/22/2025
Thank you for your patience. At this time, based on the proofs shared so far, it is Careerbuilder's position that the debt is valid as no guarantees were made at the time of the sale and that full cancellation was not agreed upon.Customer Answer

Complaint: 23275631
I am rejecting this response because: I was sold the concept that your platform would guarantee a certain number of resumes and applications when it did not. This happened on the sales call. Then when I asked to cancel, your team told me it would take it to higher *** and begin the process. Then when that didn't happen, your sales *** told me that they would change my product and cancel the current one. There is blatant lies going on. This is bait and switch and deceptive marketing practices, and sales ***s lying to me. ******** already admitted that he did not follow through on what he said he would do.

We apologize if there was a job posted on our site that was not actually live. At CareerBuilder, we use many different programmatic vendors who post jobs on behalf of other clients. At times, a job will be removed from the direct company's site but, due to technical limitations of how the various vendors scrape jobs, every so often we have a job that may been already filled. Apologies again for any inconvenience this has caused.Initial Complaint

This is regarding a contract between ************************ and one of the job boards, Career Builder and the Auto Renewal clause included in it. Here is the brief on the problem we have:We signed an Agreement with CareerBuilder on 12/17/2020 for a one-year term (12-18-2020 to 12-172021).We renewed the contract again in 12/18/2021 and again on 12/18/******* previous renewals, we received email from account manager reminding us about the upcoming renewal and we renew the license based on need. But this renewal for period starting in Dec 2023, we did not receive any such reminder and directly got an invoice for a renewed contract. CareerBuilder has automatically renewed it and has directly sent us invoice on 12/18/2023 based on the Auto-renewal term mentioned in the Contract. Upon receiving the invoice, we immediately responded on 12/18/2023 that we do not want to renew and to terminate our contract. We have repeatedly sent emails to CB contract renewal team as well as support team but to no avail. We have also sent them a Request to terminate by registered mail on Jan 10 2024 All contracts written originally does have a federal law that states that:" Specifically, if the initial term of the subscription or automatic renewal program was a year or longer, the business must send a renewal notice to the consumer containing certain required information between 15 and 45 days before the renewal."We have never received any such renewal reminder whatsoever from CB between 15 to 45 day before the renewal. Without any renewal reminder, they have auto renewed it and sent an email with an invoice(attached email). We have not used CareerBuilder starting Dec 2023.Ignoring our repeated requests to them to cancel/terminate our contract for period starting 12/18/2023 to 12/17/2024 based on our changing client needs and our reduced usage of CareerBuilder in the past year, they have been sending us invoices and now harassing us by sending collection agency notices.Business Response

The client indicated that they did not intend to use the contract in 2024 but did end up using Careerbuilder services, specifically job postings. Six jobs were posted between January 5, 2024 and January 16, 2024. These jobs all ran for a full calendar month and collected a total of 423 apply clicks. Note that the jobs were set to external apply in that they were directed to a link on the LoginSoft site.
The client in question had multiple contracts with auto clauses included. Even their first ** was set to auto renew in the year 2021, they purchased a new ** in 2022, which was set to auto renew as well. Both the contracts have been signed by ***** ***.

**-4747856-AR1 (12/18/2023 to 6/27/2024)
Both of the signed contracts have clear language indicating that the ** will auto renew ************ listed on the this Order Form shall automatically renew for successive renewal terms of the lesser of (i) the length of the initial term or (ii) 12 months unless either party provides ninety (90) days advance written notice of their intent not to renew.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:Thank you for your response.
We would like to bring to your attention that we use an Applicant Tracking System to keep track of all our job positions and Sources (like job boards such as ****************** or other portals) where our positions are getting the most attention and Sources through which we received applications.
Attached our reports for the contract period, (12-18-2022 to 12-17-2023) and report for period Jan ***** to June 30 2024.
As can be seen in the report, while careerbuilder.com was one of the View Sources for our job postings during the Contract period (Dec 18 2022 to Dec 17th 2023), careerbuilder.com was NOT listed as part of View Source during the period Jan 1 2024 to June 30 2024 as we did not use it in that period.
Careerbuilder.com can only be be seen as one of the Apply Sources in the report for Jan 1 2024 to June 30th 2024 only because, potential job seekers might have used it to apply for jobs but ********* did not use CareerBuilder.com as a Source to post jobs for their open positions.
Prior to the start of the new term, we communicated our intent to terminate the agreement effective immediately. There was also no communication from the assigned Customer Account Manager regarding the upcoming renewal. Additionally, we have not utilized CareerBuilders services throughout 2024. In light of these factors, we respectfully request an amicable resolution for a Settlement for a partial amount.

I am rejecting this response because:Thank you for your response. We submitted multiple support tickets to CareerBuilder beginning on 12/18/2023 (Case Numbers: #********, #********, #********), along with several emails to customer support, clearly requesting the cancellation/termination of our contract and the deactivation of our accounts. These repeated efforts were made to ensure our contract would be properly terminated and to avoid any future complications.
Moreover, we did not receive any communication from our assigned Customer Account Manager regarding the upcoming renewal, which could have provided us with timely notice of the auto-renewal and allowed us to take appropriate action sooner.
In light of this, we respectfully reiterate our request for an amicable resolution, proposing a partial payment settlement in recognition of our repeated efforts to notify CareerBuilder of our intention to terminate the agreement effective immediately.

Hi Better Business Bureau team, i bought (online) CareerBuilder access ONLY for one month (30 day access) and paid using my credit card ********* express) promptly. i uploaded documents (invoice and duration etc) here. the one month was supposed to be between Feb 1-29, 2024. i used it for this preceding duration. after that i assumed, it was cancelled automatically as i explicitly bought this ONE month access only. guess what, CareerBuilder started harassing me for an additional month payment via email. so i uploaded all the documents as well as verification of CareerBuilder employee Ms. ***** ******* that i used only for ONE month and emailed all docs to CareerBuilder. However, CareerBuilder now sent my company name to a collection agency and they are asking me to pay $529.41 as pending fees including their fees. I sent all my documents again to this collection agency and they are repeating the same baseless claim without any proof that their client CareerBuilder is stating that we owe the money. as a small, woman owned business, why are these guys preying on us when we did nothing wrong. before sending collections, i spoke with couple of folks on CareerBuilder side and assumed based on my conversation it is taken care of. How can you help to get this collection agency/CareerBuilder understand that we do NOT owe any money to them. Feel free to contact me, if you need to.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: I reject Careerbuilder's assertion that I bought same package twice on the same day. I do NOT have any receipts or records on what they are claiming. I showed what I have. How can I buy 2 subscriptions for the same month on the same day. I reached out to a Careerbuilder representative when my initial subscription did NOT work. She made it work. I am NOT sure what happened after that. So I have to reject this explanation from Careerbuilder. How can I as a small business buy 2 subscriptions for same month on the same day? How can I use 2 identical ONE month subscriptions at the same time? Your sales representative may have SOLD this to me WITHOUT my knowledge to give access to me when it did NOT work. I did not buy 2 subscriptions.

I am reviewed their response of two invoice(s) bundle for same user (which i never used) and do NOT agree. i have wasted ENOUGH of time on this issue. so i decided to pay the outstanding $450/ invoice, given that i have no choice, It is very clear to me that they want to extort from a small business, i will NOT be paying any collection charges. the collection company was not professional and wasted my time significantly. Let me know how can pay the actual amount of $450/- that they claim i did not pay to CareerBuilder directly but NOT to the collection agency.
I would like to reiterate the fact that i did not expect this kind of extortion from CareerBuilder. I have been its customer for several years in the past. I do NOT want to waste any more of my time on this unprofessional organization that is blatantly came up with two INVOICES (without canceling one, they sold me another license for the same period without my knowledge, hence i am in this situation) for the same month for the same user without any regard to professional courtesy. I will never use your services in the future.

10 years ago I was caught in a round of layoffs at my company. So I started looking for a job, using sites like Indeed, CareerBuilder, and Monster. After more than a year, I stopped, and retired. For years after, I continued to get messages in my email from Indeed, although CareerBuilder and Monster tapered off and ended.About a year ago, I went to Indeed and got my resum taken down and closed my account.Just a few days ago, I got an email from someone claiming to be CareerBuilder, saying people were looking at my resum, so I decided to ask them to take it down and close my account. I couldn't remember my password, and so followed their instructions to reset it. I went to careerbuilder.com and signed in, but couldn't find a way to delete/close my account.I did find some instructions to go to "my profile" and choose an option, but all "my profile" wanted was for me to complete my profile. It had my name, address, and phone number, but nothing else. No "delete" ********* I emailed them to have all my info deleted, and my account closed. They replied, saying, "Please review the **** link [https...] and complete the required information. Afterward, you will receive an email to confirm your identity in order to proceed with the data deletion request. Once confirmed, it will take up to 5 days to process the deletion and remove all information from CareerBuilder.com and its global properties."At the same time, I started getting obvious phishing emails. They ALL were offering the same *work-from-home* "job"??, same "employer", *not my field of work*, in *badly broken English*??, from *individuals* (not companies) with Yahoo email addresses, that only MENTIONED CareerBuilder; and they all identified me by my name and phone number, as if that were all they knew about me.Bottom line, I never got close to deleting my account, and every reply I got wanted my personal info.SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED TO CAREERBUILDER. TRUST NOTHING FROM ANYONE CLAIMING TO BE THEM!Business Response
