To whom is *** concern, My name is *************************, I was student at chamberlain, and was dismissed December 2020. After almost 2 years, I have finally found the courage to speak upon my experiences as a student. When I started the program, it was during the time COVID had just started, it was also the time I found out I was pregnant. I was 20, a single mother and no support at home on top working doubles shifts two jobs when COVID was very dangerous. One can imagine the stress, that brought. I take full responsibility of the courses I failed. I should have been more responsible. However, after re taking a class in the fall semester, I felt completely discourage, humiliated, after I was reached out by the ****************** ****, for a meeting with my science Profeesor as well, instead of the **** reaching out and see on how I could do better, or talk about the resources offered that I could use to do better. Her main concern was why I never took the time to email a person as and I Quote important as her. I was speechless, because I didnt expect this entitled behavior.I was expecting support because I was going through a hard time. Two years later and I still remember that conversation till this day. She mentioned how I would be a lazy nurse. This behavior was completely not acceptable, this is something no student should ever hear from someone who is a ****. The **** after she was done, then lastly asked the Profeesor how I was doing in class ,this to say she didnt even know about my performance in the class which was going good. At the end of the semester, my pregnancy was marked at a High-risk,with all this stress on my baby, It was to late for me to withdraw, I failed once again.Once appealing in January 2021, I was completly ignored by the advisor on how to properly appeal with no instructions,it wasnt until the second appeal in which I received instructions. My appeal was denied and I quote not sufficient evidence after showing my medical chart

      Case #: 18174974

      To whom it may concern:

On behalf of Chamberlain University (Chamberlain), I am responding to your request dated October 5, 2022, regarding Chamberlain student, ************************

************** was enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program at Chamberlains ******* campus.  She completed one course in the January 2017 session and then did not attend Chamberlain again until the May 2020 session.  She continued her enrollment until she was academically dismissed at the end of the November 2020 session.

The Chamberlain Academic Catalog explains the Standards of Academic Progress as the following:

Students must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward completing their degree program.  Satisfactory academic progress is evaluated at the end of each students semester and is measured by the following standards:

      Grade Point Average

Undergraduate Degree Program: In order to be in good academic standing, a student must maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (****) of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. If at the end of an enrolled academic semester the **** is below 2.0, the student is placed on academic and financial aid warning. If the student has a **** below 2.0 in any two enrolled semesters, the student is dismissed and is ineligible for Title IV HEA program funds.

On September 4, 2020,************** was notified by email advising that students must meet the standards of academic progress which were outlined in the academic catalog. The email went further to explain that that **************** academic progress, after the July 2020 session, indicated that she was not meeting the required ****.  As a result, the email stated that she would be placed on academic warning until she was able to re-establish satisfactory academic progress in the next term.  The email also explained that if she was unable to re-establish satisfactory academic progress she would be dismissed from Chamberlain.  Resources were provided and the student was encouraged to contact her Student Support Advisor.

At the end of the November 2020 session, ************** earned a failing grade in BIOS255, a repeated course. Due to this course failure, ************* was academically dismissed for failure to achieve a minimum **** of 2.0 or higher.

As stated in the Academic Catalog, a student who has been dismissed for failing to meet standards of academic progress may appeal the action by completing an Appeal for Reinstatement form.  ************** submitted an Appeal for Reinstatement form after being academically dismissed on January 25, 2021. In the Appeal for Reinstatement, students are asked to do the following:

Before allowing you to be reinstated, Chamberlain requires confirmation that you have adequately identified and resolved the issues that caused your poor academic performance. Provide an overview of how your circumstances have changed or will be different if you are reinstated and permitted to continue your coursework. You must provide a detailed plan of action, clearly explaining the steps you will take to ensure success. These steps must meet the conditions for reinstatement.

************** provided a response and medical records with her appeal.  ********************* reviewed and denied *************** appeal on January 28, 2021, on the basis that the students plan for academic success did not demonstrate significant indication that the standards of academic progress would be met in the future.

Per the appeal for reinstatement process, ************** was able to Appeal for Reinstatement Decision.  She completed the Appeal for Reinstatement Decision on February 9, 2021.  ************** provided her response and supporting documentation. The Campus President denied the appeal on February 9, 2021.  The basis of the denial was that the rationale and/or supporting documentation did not substantiate a change to the original denied decision.

After reviewing **************** complaint, we have found the Appeal for Reinstatement process was completed correctly per policy. She was given her due process and opportunity to provide her response and supporting documentation on the matter. This is a Chamberlain academic process and, as such Chamberlain considers this matter to be closed.

      Best Regards,

On august 22nd 2022, I contacted my professor prior to the start of the new session about missing the first day of class due to a prior obligation. After a few days of emailing back and forth; she told me there are things that need to be done in order for me to makeup any missing assignments ( specifically asked will this be something that will prevent me from moving forward in this class; nothing was said. So, she directed me to reach out to the campus president. I reached out to the Campus President *** email on August 29th (2 days prior to the session) and I explained to her my situation and asked her the same question. Is this something that will hinder me from continuing on in this class. Again, nothing was said. Instead I was sent learning contracts to sign for approval to makeup assignments. So, I did that. Now, here we are the second we of class and I am being withdrawn from the class due to me missing the first class. Not to mention one of the assignments which was a simulation lab was added last minute (days before) the start of class. Being withdrawn from this class puts me in a bad spot because now I am having to wait till january when the class is offered again in order to retake it. This pushes my original december graduation date back to march-april time frame. This is preventing me from accepting job offers that I have lined up. Their excuse was a wedding is not an extenuating circumstance. No where in their student hand book does it state such a thing. I have emailed so many staff and called a few people and no one seems to have the time to talk to me in person. It is unfair to students who have had to be "understanding" and "flexible" whenever the campus through anything new at us but they can't seem to show us the same respect. I am veteran who gets my school paid for and gets paid to attend school. So not having a class to attend takes away from my household income. I need help because I am drowning with anxiety and depression over this.

      Case #: 18003914

      To whom it may concern:

On behalf of Chamberlain University (Chamberlain), I am responding to your request dated September 9, 2022, regarding Chamberlain applicant, *****************************.   ***************** is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program at the *********, ** campus.

****************** was enrolled in NR446 for the September 2022 session, which began on August 22, 2022.  NR446 is a clinical course that requires students to complete a medication calculation exam. Page 183 of the Academic Catalog explains the following regarding the medication calculation exam:

Each BSN clinical course has a required medication calculation exam, which students must pass in order to successfully pass each course.Students may not administer medications in the clinical setting prior to passing the medication calculation exam for the course. Passing score criteria is listed in each course. Students have three attempts to achieve the passing score by the end of Week 2 of the session. The score on the first attempt only is worth two percent of the final course grade. Scores obtained on subsequent exams are not used in the calculation of the final grade. A student who does not pass the medication calculation exam on the third attempt by the end of Week 2 of the session will be administratively withdrawn and awarded a grade of Withdrawal Failing ("WF").

Prior to the beginning of the September session, ****************** notified her NR446 professor that she would not be able to attend the medication calculation exam. Per policy, the professor advised ****************** that she would need to complete an Appeal of Academic Decision, specifically a make-up exam appeal. The make-up exam appeal is available to provide students an opportunity to make-up an examination missed due to extenuating circumstances in any NR course. ****************** submitted the appeal, and it was denied due to her reason (a wedding) for missing the exam was not considered an extenuating circumstance.

****************** attempted the medication calculation exam on September 7, 2022, and earned an unsatisfactory score of 19. ****************** was not withdrawn from NR446 at this time, as she had one additional opportunity to take the medication calculation exam.

The ******* Campus President spoke with ****************** on September 13, 2022, regarding the examination and her status in the course. During this conversation ****************** stated that she would like to stay in the course and understood the challenge of catching up.  ****************** again attempted the medication calculation exam on September 14, 2022, and earned an unsatisfactory score of 19.

Because ****************** did not pass the medication examination on three attempts she was, per policy, administratively withdrawn from NR446. Specifically, her first attempt of the exam as denied due to her reasoning for missing the exam not being extenuating circumstances, and she did not receive a passing score on her second and third attempts.  Ms.  ******* will need to retake NR446 in her future enrollment.

I never attended Chamberlain university. I unenrolled and contacted my student advisors and many people over the phone and they tried giving me the Tun around when I was trying to unenroll before the semester started so I wouldnt get charged. They refunded my tuition and unenrolled me. A few weeks after I dropped out They decided to charge me a student recovery tuition fee of $240. I read its normal for ********** private schools to do thatbut I never attended a class, I unenrolled before the semester started; therefore, I was never a student. Im trying to contact them to remove this charge but again theyre avoiding responding to my emails for phone calls. Theyre scamming me.

************************* is a student at Chamberlain *************** I pay her tuition. She was billed for healthcare insurance without agreeing to it as she already has private insurance. They will not reverse charges as that is school policy written in the fine print of their contract. They also said it is ******** Law for students to carry health insurance and tried to contact us but did not successfully do so. They did not attempt to call. I am rejecting this response because:

I assume it is true that ******** requires students to have health insurance but does not require Chamberlain to auto-bill students for coverage that a student has from a private insurance policy. There are obvious alternatives such as refusing enrollment until necessary paperwork is complete.

Chamberlain did not call ************************* and therefore did not perform due diligence. Chamberlain refers us to the fine print of their student contract with no regard or good will toward the student. Such a totally unethical policy.

      To whom it may concern:

On behalf of Chamberlain University (Chamberlain), I am responding to your request dated August 11, 2022, regarding Chamberlain student, ***************************************  Please note that this response is being submitted as a signed FERPA release form is on file for *************************, Ms. ***** mother, to have access to her education records.

As explained in the response dated August 8, 2022, Chamberlain requires all pre-licensure students to be covered by a health insurance plan, whether by the Chamberlain group injury and sickness insurance plan, or their own health insurance plan.  This is a requirement to enroll and attend Chamberlain, and is documented in many places for all students to review.  Additionally, it is the students responsibility to complete a waiver at the beginning of each policy year in order to show evidence of coverage by another health insurance plan.Chamberlain cannot assume that a student has continued coverage by another health insurance plan from year to year.

************ previously completed the **************** Requirements Form upon her initial enrollment which states that the deadline to submit the documentation is Friday of Week 1 of a students first session at Chamberlain and each new policy year thereafter, indicating that she was aware that the documentation was required to be updated each year.

Also, as previously stated, Chamberlain did its due diligence by sending ************ several emails,to the email she has authorized on file and uses for communication with Chamberlain, that her health insurance card and **************** Requirements Form were going to expire and needed to be renewed. Additional emails were sent to ************ which stated that her health insurance card and **************** Requirements Form had expired. A text message was sent to Ms. ***** phone number on file which advised that all health insurance requirements were due on March 4, 2022, for the March 2022 session.

************ was made aware of the health insurance waiver requirements that were necessary to be updated each year. It is the students responsibility to ensure that they completed the health insurance waiver documentation if they choose to do so by the established deadline. Because ************ did not complete the required documentation for the March and May 2022 sessions prior to the deadline, she is responsible for the health insurance charges applied to her account.

      Complaint: 17672280

I am rejecting this response because: Chamberlain has billed me once again after proper paperwork WAS submitted for health insurance. Their billing system will not allow you to short-pay tuition but makes you pay for their mistake and then wait for a correction. I would like to add that they stopped enrollment for compliance reasons when a student did not meet other requirements such as a CPR class but did not stop enrollment for health insurance paperwork and billed over one thousand dollars. Their policies makes no sense. They still have not addressed why they cannot phone the student to warn of impending charges.

      Sincerely,

I was a student at Chamberlain University for 4 years in the *** program. In the last course of completion of my bachelor's in nursing called Capstone, I missed the deadline to submit one of the assignments on time, I did the assignment but my instructor denied it. She said it's the policy if I don't submit the assignment on time, I cannot sit for the exit exam. During the program, I failed two classes and their policy is If you fail twice you are dismissed from the program. I was dismissed from the school I tried to appeal two times they still denied me. Now, I have been left with credits that do not transfer to other schools and have almost $60 000 in student loans with no degree. I dont know what to do please help or give me an idea of what I can do about this situation. I only need to do the last course to get my bachelors.

      Case #: 17670965

      To whom it may concern:

On behalf of Chamberlain University (Chamberlain), I am responding to your request dated August 4, 2022, regarding Chamberlain student, Nelly *******.

Ms. ******* began her enrollment at Chamberlain in the September 2018 session.  She was academically dismissed at the conclusion of the March 2022 session.

Ms. ******* was enrolled in NR452 during the March 2022 session.   Per the NR452 CCNPR Guidelines sheet, provided to every student:

Completion of all modules, required remedial activities, and assessments are required to achieve the readiness designation prior to taking the proctored ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor on campus.
Students who fail to meet the above stated requirements by 11:59 pm (campus local time) on Wednesday of Week 7, or as scheduled by your local campus administration, will not achieve readiness designation to complete the proctored ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor on campus.

Ms. ******* did not complete all the requirements by the established due date and was not eligible to take the proctored ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor.  As a result, she earned a failing grade in NR452 for the March 2022 session.

The Chamberlain Academic Catalog explains the Standards of Academic Progress as the following (Exhibit A):

Students must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward completing their degree program.  Satisfactory academic progress is evaluated at the end of each students semester and is measured by the following standards:In addition to GPA and maximum timeframe, Chamberlain has established additional academic standards that are assessed weekly in the **** degree program and after every session
for all other programs. Failure to meet these standards will also result in dismissal from Chamberlain.

Specifically, undergraduate students enrolled at Chamberlain beginning in January 2017 and after will be academically dismissed for the following (Exhibit A):

      Undergraduate Degree Program:
Two unsuccessful attempts (WF or F) in any combination of nursing courses.
Three unsuccessful attempts in any combination of science* (D, WF or F) or nursing (WF or F) courses.**
Two or more unsuccessful attempts (F) in a repeated transitional studies course.
      * Does not apply to science elective courses.
** Prior to September 2017, a "D" was considered an unsuccessful science grade.

During Ms. *******s enrollment in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing undergraduate program, she earned failing grades in the following courses (Exhibit B):

      November 2018 Session NR222                             November 2021 NR452
      March 2022- NR452

At the conclusion of the November 2021 session, Ms. ******* was academically dismissed for having two unsuccessful attempts (WF or F) in any combination of nursing courses. (NR222 Nov 2018 and NR452 Nov 2021).

As stated in the Academic Catalog (Exhibit A), a student who has been dismissed for failing to meet standards of academic progress may appeal the action by completing an Appeal for Reinstatement form.  Ms. ******* submitted an Appeal for Reinstatement after being academically dismissed and it was approved. She re-enrolled at Chamberlain for the March 2022 term.

At the conclusion of the March 2022 session, in which Ms. ******* earned a failing grade in NR452, she was academically dismissed for having two unsuccessful attempts (WF or F) in any combination of nursing courses (NR222 Nov 2018 and NR452 Nov 2021) and three unsuccessful attempts in any combination of science*(D, WF or F) or nursing (WF or F) courses (NR222 Nov 2018, NR452 Nov 2021, NR452 March 2022).

Ms. ******* submitted an Appeal for Reinstatement after being academically dismissed and it was denied on May 20, 2022.  The basis for the denial was that the documented mitigating circumstances did not sufficiently establish justifiable cause for failing to meet the standards of academic progress. Ms. ******* submitted an Appeal of the Reinstatement Decision which was denied on June 14, 2022.

After reviewing Ms. ******* s complaint, we have found the Appeal for Reinstatement process was completed correctly per policy.  The denial of the Appeal for Reinstatement will stand.

      To whom it may concern:

On behalf of Chamberlain University (Chamberlain), I am responding to your request dated August 4, 2022, regarding Chamberlain student, ************************** is enrolled in the Master of Science in Nursing - Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (**) degree program. She began her enrollment in this degree program in the November 2021 session.

Page 138 of the Chamberlain Academic Catalog (Exhibit A) explains the following two requirements regarding transfer credits to a graduate nursing program:

      Graduate Transfer Credit Requirements- Nursing

Maximum of 6 semester hours of transfer credit may be accepted except for master's or doctorally prepared certified nurse practitioners in ** graduate certificate programs for which a maximum of 12 credit hours may be accepted for ************************ and NR-509.
For the ** specialty tracks, transfer credits will only be accepted for the core courses.

In regard to point #1 above, the only time NR507 would be considered for transfer credit is if the student already has their Advance Practice Certification (APN) and is enrolled in a ** graduate certificate program. In other words, only Graduate Certificate ** students with a ** certification would qualify for consideration of NR507 as a transfer credit course. Ms. **** is not an Advance Practice Nurse (APN), nor is she enrolled in a ** graduate certificate program.

In regard to point #2, for traditional ** track students, of which Ms. **** is considered, only core courses are considered for transfer credit. NR507 is not a core course. Therefore, Ms. **** would need to take NR507 at Chamberlain as part of her plan of study.

Based on the graduate degree transfer policies, Chamberlain is unable to accept NR507 as transfer credit for Ms. ****.

      Best Regards,

I am rejecting this response because:
Although this class is not considered a core class I fail to understand any reasoning behind on how this specific class is a specialty class. All the nurse practitioner tracks are required to take it without any modifications related to which track is chosen. When I first transfered back to Chamberlain University I was told that the class would transfer by the admissions representative. I would also like to add that after I had graduated with my BSN I had inquired about the possibility of Chamberlain offering a PMHNP in the near future in which I was told it has not been decided at that time. Had I of known that the program would be available in October of the same year I had graduated with my BSN I would not have transfered to another institution.

      Sincerely,

      Amber List

I am rejecting this response because:

This response does not answer the question as to how this specific class is considered a specialty class. This class is required to be taken by each nurse practitioner track and does not differentiate itself from the other tracks.

      Sincerely,
