I registered with a CDL driving school, 160 Driving Academy, in ********, *************. After the 4 weeks of training, I went for my CDL test. I failed the first and second tests, but on my third trial, I passed the pre-trip, air brake, forward and back alley, parallel parking, and **********, but I failed my road test in April 2024. During my registration, the center coordinator, ********, told me that I have 6 times to test. However, since then the school has said that I will have to pay for my fourth trial, which I agreed to, but they keep playing me around, not taking my calls, and refusing to schedule me for a road test. Now my training certificate has expired.Initial Complaint

I paid 6000 to go a *** school and was told to expect a quality learning experience. Once I finished the book work part of the school , it was time to learn hands on in the 18 wheelers. The teacher was always in the office not really teaching and made it uncomfortable to ask for help. Whenever it was time to take the test at the *** I was told I over performed, but I had did everything the teacher taught me , the *** worker had said I was taught wrong and later on the teacher had even admitted that he had been teaching us wrong . Luckily we brought it up to the *** manager and they reviewed the footage and later came back out and said I could proceed with my test. Sadly I failed the last part and was given one more chance by the school. During the days leading up to my retest I was only allowed one day to practice again and wasnt given long even on that day. When it came time to retest I failed again but this time instead of failing because I over performed on my pre trip inspection I failed because I was told I was taught wrong again by the *** worker and again the teacher had openly admitted that he had been teaching me wrong on this part of the test to and apologized. But when I asked if I was gonna be allowed another chance to use their truck to test , I was declined because my 2 chances were up and I was told I would have to find an 18 ******* or pay 2000 at another school to use theirs . So I asked if I wasnt able to find another truck if I would have to pay the 6000 the school was charging me and the teacher said yes I would still have to pay 6000 even if I couldnt find a way to take my test again. So basically I got screwed because I was taught wrong and am still expected to pay 6000 dollars.Initial Complaint

I enrolled in their program for $5300. after week one i was able to easily obtain my permit because the classroom instructor was professionally adequate. after that first week though, the yard training was a joke. id get there at 7am a never see an instructor until almost 9. and then break at 10. the lunch break always took over an hour. there was 5 or more students per instructor so i wasnt able to get nowhere close to adequate in truck time. the instructors were rude and lazy. after 3 attempts i wasnt able to get my CDL. I wasnt able to get any more support from 160. I believe i was overcharged and not given what was advertised. I definitely didnt use $5300 of their resources.Initial Complaint

First week of classroom training was via zoom. Internet connectivity was horrible and problematic to all course attendees. No sound, skipping video constantly. Redundant questions from participants due to quality of zoom meeting. 160 employees were made aware constantly that problems were happening. Instructor stated it wasn't on his end and not his problem. I finished up the classroom training from home because of inadequate resources in their office.I passed my CDL permit test and moved to yard training.Immediately instructors were yelling and bad mouthing students, especially of color or limited English speakers. After practicing a maneuver for the first time I then became the object of anger. I had never been shown how to properly perform the maneuver and wanted to get seat time so gladly attempted. During training one of the instructors made lewd and sexually charged comments towards a female truck driver in another yard. I've attempted to get a refund and after three weeks I think they are purposefully withholding my refund out of spite and greed. This is not a professional company or environment for quality learning. I didn't fork over $5000 to get belittled and yelled at.Initial Complaint

In November of 2023 I failed my initial drug screening and could not return to class until I completed my Substance Abuse Program & passed another drug screening, which *********************** said would likely take only a week. I completed the program and went back to class at the end of December 2023 and was almost completely done with it on January 31st so I went to speak with my branch manager, ***********************, to get an understanding of what to expect in the coming weeks dealing with my testing and my remaining class hours. She notified me that I have not completed my clearinghouse registration which I should have done before I went back to class yet I was unaware of. So I was placed on hold yet again with only 4 hours of class remaining to finish the course until I have my clearinghouse registration completed. While my clearinghouse still says my follow-up testing plan is incomplete, It also states that I am no longer prohibited from operating a CMV. It is February 23rd and *********************** and my SAP, whom she referred me to, has not been very communicative nor professional to help get this issue resolved yet I have paid both businesses and am still unsure about the next step to get this issue resolved. Neither parties want to speak with one another and are leaving me as the middle person yet both are accusing others of lying and not doing what they need to do. I have been removed from the office by *********************** without reasoning and have still been very composed while just trying to finish class.Initial Complaint

Last summer, I enrolled in 160 Driving Academy in *****************, with a private loan from Ascent Funding. They told me they were the best truck driving school, walked me through the Ascent funding application, and had me starting school the following Monday. The first week of school was 8 hours of instructional videos, mostly ******* videos about truck driving, with no in-person instructor. After that we started meeting at a gravel parking lot that had two semi trucks, that were in very poor condition. The instructors would barely show. And if they did, they were too many students for them to handle. I literally worked with an actual instructor only 2 of the days I was enrolled there, and not consecutive days either. Most days someone would just give us the truck keys and leave. Also, we were outside in the elements: rain, heat, etc. The course is advertised as a 160 hour course, but there were many students that were actually there for over 6 months, and one guy close to one year. I made complaints to the instructors and the office, and things became worse for me because I was labeled a so-called snitch after that. I decided that school was not for me, attempted to make a formal withdrawal, but they have no withdrawal process. The office manager told me that hes just gonna unenroll me in his computer, and thats it. My dilemma today is owing the loan balance to Ascent. Its taken big a toll on my credit. I owe thousands for absolutely nothing. Honestly, Im not willing to pay that loan off, because I received nothing from it. I entered that school naively, and was prayed upon as a result. Im seeking to have 160 Driving Academy fully refund the loan amount directly to Ascent. And I would also need to get this removed from my credit report. I notified Ascent realtime as this was going on. They were not very helpful either. I spoke with someone who could barely speak english. I think it was an overseas call center.
