On August 24, 2022, we participated in a new home orientation for the ranch that Fischer Homes built for us in the ******** ** ********** in ******. At this time we were assured that the swale in the backyard would be remedied (water stands longer than 48 hours which is not in compliance with the National Association of Home Builder's standards). To date this has not been remedied. The swale floods during rain and when the neighbors behind us water their yards. I advised our field manager of this issue, and he calculated the time period incorrectly. The rain stopped at approximately 10 a.m. and he didn't start the clock until the next day. This negligence from Fischer has been a hallmark of our post-close process. They have been indifferent to my requests, our inability to use our backyard as was guaranteed us on 8.24.22. I have been kind, funny, engaging, etc. to attempt to get Fischer Homes to do their job. I will no longer be placated about my backyard. My yard is the worst in terms of drainage, but the issue involves other homes. My next door neighbor contacted the ****** County Soil & Water Conservation District, who has been tracking the problem. After my emails were ignored and my concerns about not being able to use my back yard as I see fit, were met with indifference (typically silence). I became threatening. I was then told that a surveyor had mapped the swale and that they were coming to dump a "significant" amount of dirt in my yard to remedy the issue. Previously, I had been told my yard wouldn't be affected. They were going to enter my yard without permission and implement a plan by unqualified personnel. I refused and made the county's approval a condition to enter my property. The county required a rendering of the land after remedy. For four weeks, Fischer has done nothing. I escalated to an individual who ignored my pleas. I think the only language Fischer speaks is litigation. I want this fixed immediately. The county sees how Fischer operates.Business Response

Dear Better Business Bureau,
Fischer Homes has been working through the drainage matter by
way of hiring a well-respected Civil Engineering company. The company shot
grades and is performing a revised drainage survey with target elevations. At the customer’s request the drainage survey
report must be reviewed and approved by the county prior to any work being
performed on their property.Fischer Homes believed our initial plan of action would have
served the same purpose, but we’re abiding by the request of our customer. We
apologize for any inconvenience this matter has caused and will rectify the
drainage matter as soon as it’s approved.Regards,

We built a new home with Fischer and closed on the home in July 2021. After about 3 month both corners of the master bathroom shower had active growing fungus/mold and leaking issues. In the last year of time, Fischer warranty repairs have been conducted to fix the leak and mold issue five times. They have removed dry wall, done chemical spray for mold control, they have removed removed panels of the shower walls and reset them. None of the repairs have yielded success. We are now on our sixth time of having water leaking from the corner, wet dry wall, and water seeping from the caulk. They cracked the wall the removed in the corner and tried to epoxy it instead of replacing it so the 'new' work looks very undesirable. Caulk is piled on so thick it looks awful. Every time they are in my home for a repair they leave behind a huge mess and are here for days being extremely disruptive to my family of 6.Business Response

Dear Better Business Bureau,
The Fischer Homes Construction Manager for this area spoke with our customer in the early afternoon of October 28th. He had already assured them that we were going to schedule a full tear out and replacement of the shower surround. It has actually been scheduled for November 8th due to the customer not having availability this week.
Fischer Homes is confident that this warranty matter can be successfully performed and that our customer will be satisfied with the result.
Thank you for allowing Fischer Homes to respond and maintain our high level of customer satisfaction.
Regards,,
Fischer Homes.

In March of 2022 we signed a purchase agreement for a new condo built by Fischer Homes. They condo was originally scheduled for completion in September however now it seems that it may not even be completed this year. But the real issue is the quality of craftsmanship that Fischer Homes is allowing to take place. Also the way that they treat customer concerns.
I’m attaching pictures of our concrete floor that was poured a few months ago. It has cracks 1/4” in width throughout the condo. It also has elevation changes at the cracks which indicates that not enough rebar was used in the forms and also possible structural issues. The pictures are of the quality that a $325,000 residence warrants by Fischer Homes.
We contacted the sales representative after the cracks started to appear who assured us that there was nothing to worry about and it was normal. We ended up having to go above her as she didn’t seem interested in relaying our concerns to the building managers. I eventually received a phone call from the Fischer Homes builder in charge of our building. I was told that the slab is cracked because it is such a large pour on the second level. That is a lie because I am currently working in a new construction building with a slab that is 10 times the size of ours with zero cracks. We were told that any gaps or elevation changes 1/4” or more would be filled. Anything under that would not. And that’s all that they are willing to do.
We just want the cracks repaired with the correct process by a professional repair company. Than means grinding the cracks, prepping, and filling with a low viscosity high psi epoxy. That would be good business and almost the quality we are paying for.
Also included are photos of other issues of poor craftsmanship. They didn’t even look at the floor plan we purchased as the open room was supposed to be an office. We had to notify Fischer Homes that they were building the wrong floor plan and it still isn’t fixed.Business Response

Dear Better Business Bureau,
Fischer Homes has been constructing condominium buildings
for over thirty years and knows the process as well as any homebuilding company
in the business. We are continuously making improvements to the way our
buildings are being constructed for the benefit of our customer.
The condo building that our customer has brought to your
attention is clearly still under construction. The flooring system has been
designed to achieve the best sound proofing possible for our customers. The
decimal transmission between floors is now the lowest it’s ever been. The construction
of the floor consists of truss joists, 4’ x 8’ OSB and then a layer of 4’ x 8’ foam
prior to the two inches of concrete being poured. The concrete is truly for
sound attenuation, not for anything structural. The statement that there’s not
enough rebar is incorrect as there isn’t rebar in the design. When a structural
concrete slab is poured the rebar requires two inches of coverage on both the
top and the bottom sides. The cracks that do occur are not changing the integrity of
the flooring system, and any crack of a ¼” or more in width is ground and
filled during the floor prep stage. By the time this is being performed the
concrete has gone through the hydration and curing process and any cracking
that may occur will already have happened. The framer did miss a few interior walls, but our Field
Manager hadn’t performed the frame punch on the condo prior to our customer entering
and notifying the field team. For obvious safety reasons, our contractual
agreement states that our customers are not to randomly go through an active
job site without making an appointment to go through with a Field Manager. There
are many OSHA requirements that must be taken into consideration during the construction
process. The building is currently on track to be complete in December.
With the up and down supply chain matters we can’t guarantee it though, however
it is on schedule at this time.Thank you for the opportunity to clarify the non-issues that
you recently received. We will wok with our customer and educate him on any
other situations he believes are not being performed correctly.
Thank you,

They refuse to admit their mistakes. They refuse to acknowledge mistakes. And finally they refuse to repair mistakes. I have worked in construction for 15 years and I know what is normal and what isn’t normal. All that we asked in return was that the cracks be repaired which is a reasonable request. It’s just bad business.Regards,

The granite in our new home has visual cracks that have been filled. You can feel them and are off color which makes them even more noticeable. Fisher Homes refuses to replace them as they contend that the cracks are inherent of granite. They stand behind their decision that they are acceptable and we were advised that the granite was a natural stone and may have imperfections. We understand imperfections, however not cracks to the point they were filled and very apparent visually. We have had an independent professional look at them. He advised the have been filled poorly and over time they will continue to crack.Business Response

Dear Better Business Bureau,
Fischer Homes requested that our Build Right Manger who knows quality construction as well as anyone review the granite tops in question. He reported back that the granite is in great condition with no cracks observed. He noted that there are color variations as there are with any natural stone product, but nothing that would warrant a replacement. We're sorry our customer isn't pleased with the natural stone variations, but we do stand by our Build Right Manager's decision on this top. He did however agree to replace the top in the Owner's bath due to an extraordinary color variation in this top as opposed to the original selection.
We have attached the documentation about granite and other natural stone products from both the Fischer Homes Homeowner Use & Care Guide as well as the contractually agreed upon NAHB Residential Construction Performance Guidelines. This is what we rely on to make decisions when these matters arise. If a more consistent appearance is desired our Design team will recommend Quartz, as it is more controlled than a stone slab harvested from a natural source.
Thank you again for the opportunity to review and respond to this matter.

Yes we understand all the stuff about impurities in natural stone, however not cracks. Especially not filled with a color that does not blend with the rest of the counter, it stands out like a sore thumb -see attached. This island is the separation between the living room and kitchen. It is the focal point of the rooms in this open concept model. We would be open to not replacing the master bath counter which they have agreed to replace instead replace the island counter

Dear Better
Business Bureau,
The fissure or
vein in the granite top is inherent to the stones natural structure and is within
the NAHB Performance Standard. It’s also why we make sure the tendencies of
granite and other natural stone products are discussed by our Design Center
associates and found in our homeowner literature. To expect a finish without
any imperfections is unrealistic in a natural stone product. However, the supplier and the installer have agreed to do a one-time replacement in the interest of exceptional customer service. We will
require the customer to sign-off that the top may not be an exact color match
with the other granite within the kitchen area.Thank you
for your service,Fischer

In September 2020 I have closed on the new house I built with Fischer Homes at **** ******** **, ***** ** *****.
Before the one year ‘Final Service Request’ per the contract I have noticed that there was a water leak from the rain in the finished basement and I informed the builder (Fischer homes).
It was manifesting as the water was pooling in a conner of the basement and the discoloration of the baseboard and drywall (see attached photos)
In November 2021 they dispatched a team that investigated the issue by cutting a piece of drywall and inserting a small camera to find the leak cause.
A few weeks later they dispatched a subcontractor that attempting to fix the issue by injecting some foam. A few days later another team came back and restored the drywall and declared the issue closed.
Also they painted back the baseboard and drywall.
After a few months I noticed that the baseboard color was changing again as the rainy season began.
I have contacted the warranty office several times and eventually they send someone from the water proofing subcontractor in July 2022.
When the subcontractor arrived he informed me that he can not proceed because the leak was in the finished side of the basement and he was not supposed to take down the wall and deal with the leak, suggesting that I call back Fischer Homes.
I called back Fischer Homes and after a few conversations their Warranty manager informed me that the water proofing warranty is covered but any additional work like diagnosing or removing the drywall and mounting it back is not covered, so I would have to find my own contractors and have them do everything except the waterproofing.
Since Fischer Homes failed to resolve the issue at the ‘Final Service Request’ per the contract, I expect them to perform all the steps required to fix the issue since the original cause and my notification predates the ‘Final Service Request’.Business Response

In June of 2022 we noticed the brick of our home pulling away from the wall. We purchased our home in October of 2014 and were not the original builders of the property. The home was built in 2006. I reached out to Fischer's warranty department and alerted them of this issue and asked if there is anything they could do about it. They stated that due to the fact that we did not originally own the home they would not come out and look at it. They did state that if after we had someone come out if had documentation that the issue was from a building violation or that they did something improper during the build, they would send someone out. After that we had 3 masonry companies come out all who were concerned about improper build issues but they would not be able to verify this until the brick was removed. We hired **** ****** Masonry to complete the work and ended up having to choose brick that was not an exact match of our current brick because of supply issues. Work began on our home on 8/1 and on 8/2 the brick was removed. Upon removing the brick there were no brick ties found behind the brick from our windows and door up which is the area where the brick was seen to be pulling away from the wall. See attached photo documents. We reached out to Fischer on 8/2 to alert them of this so they could send someone out to see this themselves and were told they would send a message and someone would contact us. We received no call from Fischer so on 8/6 we called again and were told they would send another message and someone would call us on Monday. As of 8/11 no one from Fischer has returned our calls and the work has been completed so they are only able to see the concern based on our photo documentation. The steel behind the brick was rusted and needed replaced which was also an additional expense. In total the job was $9,000 and we are seeking Fischer to reimburse this since they did not return calls or attempt to rectify this situation on their own.Business Response

We were told that sealing our driveway and sidewalk was part of the package when we signed our contract to build. Our contract was with ***** homes but within a few days it was announced Fischer Homes bought ***** and would honor all commitments. We moved in Sept 2021 and were told they would schedule the sealing to be done. Months went by and finally we were told it would be spring. I am filing this on behalf of myself and my husband. Closed on our house 1/28/22 with escrow agreement that sod and final grade would be completed by 6/1/22. It is now 7/27/22 and we do not have landscaping, sod or grading. They did do some grading but it has since overpopulated with weeds and some has run off on to the sidewalk. We have attempted to ask Thomas and John but get excuses about contractors and weather. If either of those were a problem, the 5 houses on ******** ***** that closed after us and before 5/1 would not have had their yards completed. That's just on one street. There are patio homes that have also had their work completed. We are the only house without landscaping, much less sod. I have tried to reach out to fischer through the portal earlier today explaining my issue and requesting the construction manager call me but have not received a response yet. We are very frustrated that even with escrow withholding of almost $5500 we still cannot get our yard. 574k for a house with nothing but weeds. And to see they have done houses that closed 2 months after us? Statements on here from other complaints saying they go in closing order? Apparently they do not. We don't want to have to seek legal counsel, but fischer is 2 months in violation of the agreement and no action despite our requests. The attached document is houses that have their job completed. It includes the listing of house numbers on ******** ***** and the closing date, sorted by closing date. Yellow highlight are ones closed after us. Also attached is a pic of our escrow agreement showing work to be completed and deadline.Business Response

Dear Better Business Bureau,
Fischer Homes' Construction Manager made immediate contact with our customer to convey the dates that their yard and landscape was scheduled. They were both installed within the last two weeks. Our Construction Manager reached back out to our customer for their feedback, and they acknowledged that they're very satisfied with the installation.
There are a number of reasons why homes have the yards and landscaping installed in groups, but the most common is for our trade partners efficiency. When they have multiple to install that are grouped together, they can grade and sod at a much faster pace if they complete them while they're set up in that specific section of the street. Unfortunately, this sometimes results in the scenario that our customer explained in their complaint.
We do apologize for the inconvenience of the wait for this particular customer, but we're glad to hear they're pleased with their newly installed outdoor grounds.
Thank you again for your service to both our customers and Fischer Homes.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Landscaping done 7/28, sod done 8/4. Note this is still 2 months beyond escrow agreement with mortgage company. It should not take a formal complaint and willingness to have mortgage company refund escrow withholding to my account due to breach by Fischer. The construction supervisor for my division has to be more aware of daily goings on. His two coworkers do him no justice. One is too new to know better and the other one is a know it all condescending blow-hard that I have yet to find ONE person who doesn’t dislike him. To the pount that some people who are in the building process wish they could back out. That should tell Fischer there’s an employee problem. There just needs to be more ‘management’. Know when things aren’t completed and why.

I had a home built by ***** Family Homes which Fisher Homes acquired in 2021. Leading up to my 11 month warranty repairs, I hired a home inspector who found a leak in the attic coming from the flue pipe. The roof was inspected and it was determined to be a HVAC issue. Fisher Homes sent out the foreman from ******* Heating and Cooling. The foreman did not even inspect the issue. We stood on my front porch where I was told that he has seen this multiple times over the last couple years in the homes built by *****. He stated everything was installed to spec and there was no reason that it should be leaking from excess condensation. Once the report was sent to Fisher Homes, they determined a plan of action that included insulating the B-Vent pipe. I spoke to my home inspector about this and was told that insulating that pipe is not only against the manufacture requirements but against building code. I told this information to the customer care manager and after talking with his bosses I was told they want to move forward with their planned fix. I told Fisher that they will not be conducting any work on my home that is against code and that I would be filing a complaint with the AG’s office. I was told to go ahead and do so. I once again told Fisher that their plan is against code and a fire hazard and to come up with a different plan to address the issue. It’s been over a week since I have received any communication from them despite multiple emails. My work order to have this issue fixed is now 5 months old.Business Response

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
