This company has referred a medical account to collections. I requested the original invoice from their client (3/31) because I believe the balance has been paid by my insurance company. I was provided an invoice that is not the original. I am attempting to verify the debt. I have made this request several times and have been given the runaround. I also have a question about an additional $129.00 charge and have yet to receive an answer. Could you please assist? My next step is my local congressional representative.Business Response

As was explained in the response to Mr. *****' latest CFPB complaint, Southaven Fire Department adds a collection fee of 25% to all its collection accounts, resulting in the added charge of $127.37. The itemized statement previously sent to Mr. ***** was provided by our client.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: I called the contact for the original invoice to verify the charges. The original vendor did not validate this debt nor did they mention a collections fee. They referred me to this company’s parent company. This company continues to report a debt that has been previously paid by my insurance and they continue to report an additional charge that they applied. I will file another CFPB complaint as well as dispute the charge and collections via credit reporting agencies and other means.
Sincerely,
******** *****Business Response

As we informed Mr. ***** in our 4/9/25 response to his CFPB complaint, if he has proof that the referenced collection account has already been paid, CBS would be happy to accept it and inquire further with our client.Customer Answer

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because: the company has no proof that this debt is owed by me. Every time I request the original documentation I am answered or referred to the vendor or parent company who is attempting to collect a debt. I am working to secure my medical records through other 3rd parties. This company continues to report an unverified debt.

I honestly don’t get why CBS *** **** is reporting this debt under my name because I don’t owe them anything. I never signed anything with them, and when I asked for a copy of the original application, they didn’t even bother to provide it. It’s frustrating because this is hurting my credit for no reason, and it’s just not fair. How can they just put something on my report without any proof?

THIS DEBT COLLECTOR VIOLATED THE Fair Debt Collection Practices Act . This company refused to take my payment on multiple occasions (regardless if we were disputing final cost, they have NO authority to refuse my payment), wasted 2 hours of my time, and ultimately forced me to pay an amount I did not agree to under threat of further legal action and legal prosecution. I was told that they if I paid only the amount I agreed to pay, that they would allow the interest to accrue and pursue me accordingly, while I think this is a terrible way to conduct business, and unethical
In January '25 I was contacted by a law office in Paducah with instructions on how to resolve my outstanding medical debt. I was advised that payments would be made to "Credit Bureau Systems Inc". I was given the option to pay this debt in full with the advisement that doing so would eliminate any potential interest or fees and that could be added if i was unable to pay in full. I was also given the option of making payments in lieu of a 1 time full payment. Payment arrangements would result in interest and attorney fees as the attorney would have to gather payments until the debt was resolved: i understand and agree with this. I advised that i wanted to pay this debt off as soon as possible I would call back on or by 2/21 with either a majority of the monies owed and the intention of being able to pay all monies owed. I called the law office with the entire amount owed on 2/21 as promised, but i was then told that i now owe far much more that the original debt. I was advised then by the law office to contact "CBS INC" on 2/24. I called on 2/21 and left a voicemail and again on 2/24. When I made contact with *** of CBS, she became combative and unprofessional. I asked her several times why she would not take my payment, considering she has to read a disclaimer in the beginning of the call that I made to them, this is an attempt to collect a debt. I am very disturbed by these business practice.Business Response

Mr.
********* complaint seems to hinge on the fact that he believed he should not
have had to pay fees additional to the principal balance incurred when paying the balance in full. Mr. *********
file was referred to our attorney’s office for non-payment on October 31st,
2024; Mr. ******* did not call **** Law with the intent to pay his principal balance in full until
February 21st, 2025. Previous contacts from Mr. ******* were in regards to making a payment plan, which Mr. ******* acknowledges in his complaint would result in additional fees. During that four-month time period,
interest was accruing and court costs were incurred by **** Law. Moreover, Mr.
******* signed agreeing to the statement “Should it be necessary for the
Hospital to pursue collection, I agree to pay all reasonable collection costs,
including court costs and attorney’s fees incurred by the Hospital in collecting
my account” for the dates of service in question (please see attachment). Prejudgment
interest/attorney’s fees were waived in an attempt to resolve the matter
amicably; however, Mr. ******* was repeatedly told that he would be responsible
for paying the court costs associated with this matter. Thus, Mr. *********
insistence that his payment of the principal balance not including any additional
charges constituted payment in full was refused solely due to the conditional
acceptance stated by Mr. *******. The payment including the court costs owed
was accepted by CBS on February 24th, 2025.Initial Complaint

Credit Bureau Systems, Inc.
has no record of any dispute from *** ******. We currently hold five accounts
in collections for *** ****** which were referred to us by ******* ****** from
between March 2023 and June 2023. Since their referral, we have attempted to
reach *** ****** several times by phone and letter but were only able to make
contact with him once: on May 12th, 2023, at which time he stated he was on his
lunch break but would call back to set up a payment plan on his collection
balance of $1,545.19. We did not hear back from him and were never able to
establish contact again despite numerous attempts by phone and letter.
As a courtesy, we have attached an itemized statement for the
only account that we are currently reporting to *** ******' credit. However, to
reiterate, we have no request of *** ****** ever requesting a copy of any
statement from our agency. The account has been coded to report as disputed.
We have no knowledge of any Charter Communications and do not
know to what that refers.Initial Complaint

I was paying ******* ****** on a payment plan and they sent part of my bill to collections. This CBS did not want to fear anything about that, or the fact that i was already paying out $100-$1200 a month in medical bills due to my multiple anti-autoimmune disorders (MS, dermatographia, Graves disease-which required me to have a total thyroidectomy); which has led to me having multiple surgeries. This CBS wanted me to pay an additional $100 a month. They bullied me into saying yes, no matter what I said I couldn't afford.Business Response

Credit Bureau Systems, Inc. apologizes for the health problems *** ********* is experiencing. However, we must categorically deny these allegations. *** ********* called in to our office on May 29th, 2024. Once she explained her change in financial situation, *** *********'s account representative agreed to adjust her existing payment plan without objection. She asked "what can you commit to?" and when *** ********* expressed that a $50 a month payment would be more suitable for her (compared to her previous monthly payment of $100), her account rep offered a 23 month payment plan with an initial payment of $50.00 and 21 subsequent payments of $50.15, with a final payment of $50.22. *** ********* authorized the payment plan while on the phone with her account representative. There was never any disagreement regarding lowering the payment or pressure to keep the existing payment plan; it was never even mentioned.Initial Complaint

I've reached out to this company a few times with no response. I've called and they have long wait times. I have also sent a letter a month ago to explain the account and nature of business.
