My complaint is against Computershare. I previously worked for ****** and was given certificated stock back in 2008, which I dont recall. It is held with Computershare. I wanted to be able to transfer the stock to Fidelity of sell the stock. The stock is listed as Fidelity Custodian FBO and my name. I was first told I needed to replace the certificated stock by filling out an affidavit and paying a bond premium. The bond premium was over $500. Computershare took my money but sent the affidavit back saying it had been filled out incorrectly. They said the form required a Medallion Signature from Fidelity. I asked would I have to pay any more money for the bond premium since I had already paid it. They said it depended on the stock priceif it had increased I might owe more but if it had decreased I may get a refund. Ha!!They sent me a new affidavit stating a new bond premium of over $400. The stock price of ****** had not increased to warrant paying the original $500+ in addition to $400+ more. However, I drove 5 hours to the closest Fidelity branch to secure this Medallion Signature in person. They even notarized it as well which wasnt required since the investment is less than $50,000. I overnighted the affidavit and check for the bond premium. It was received and my check has already been cashed but there has been no change in my account reflecting replaced stock certificates. I have been unable to get anyone on the phone. All I want is access to my stock to see it or to transfer it into my ******************* account. Now I am out almost $1000 in bond premiums to replace the stock certificates and still no access to sale the stock of transfer it. This company is shady, unethical, and holding my money hostage which I desperately need. You can look at all the complaints and see this company is performing illegal activities. I wont something done about this now. This has gone on way too long.Business Response

Better Business Bureau:I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # ********. Please add your rejection comments below; if you do not provide any details, your complaint will be closed as Answered.
I was specifically told to secure a Medallion Signature from ******************** and now they are saying that isnt sufficient. So I am confused because it states We require a certified corporate resolution naming the officers authorized to conduct financial transactions on behalf FIDELITY INVESTMENTS. It lists a Medallion Signature as one of the ways to accomplish this? Therefore, I need further clarification as to what to provide to get access to my shares of stock.

My deceased mom has shares in this company and I (as executor of her estate) have been trying to get this money transferred to her estate since May2023. This company has give me nothing but problems since day one. I filled out all paperwork they sent me and mailed back to them with a 50$ check to receive the funds. They said they did not receive them so I mailed all paperwork again priority mail on July 13 of 2023 and I know they received it on July 15 of 2023. Today August 7 of 2023 I received a letter stating they need a certified copy of her will which they have already received and a cover letter from the lawyer saying the will is good. I have already spent 60$ plus time and headaches to talk to several different representives in this company that one person tells you one thing and the next one tells you something completely different. They have caused me a lot of time and money to have absolutely done nothing and I have still not received the money to put in my moms trust so I can distribute her monies and dissolve her estate. In my dealings with this company I would recommend no person in there right mind at any given time to buy any shares in MetLife Computershare!!!Business Response

I have been trying to access my online account for over a year so that I can view and manage my stock holdings. Computershare's process requires that it send a physical piece of mail to my address with a verification code that I use to set up the online account. I have requested that to be sent multiple times over the past year. Every time I request it, the company assures me that it will send it. I have yet to receive it.The consequence of them not sending the verification code means that I do not have access to my money or stocks. They are essentially holding my financial assets hostage. I desperately need that money and have no way to access it. This company is a scam and is stealing my money.Business Response

I have been trying to have cost basis transfered from my broker (interactive brokers) to Computershare for over 6 months, and have made very little traction. After finally getting interactive brokers to send cost basis for both positions that were DRSed from them to computershare(CCL and SBUX), the cost basis has not transferred. These are covered positions, and it is required by law for cost basis to transfer, so when selling, the correct basis is reported to the **** Interactive brokers sent the basis via *** (signature required) to Computershare in may, and was delivered(and received) on 5/08/2023, and signed by someone named ******* in the mailroom at computershare(this is PROOF it was received by computershare). Computershare refuses to research and honor this cost basis and update in the system. They will not reply to emails I have been sending, and there is no movement. I am at a lost right now as to who to contact.Business Response

I have tried for 3 years contacting Computershare/MetLife regarding my mother's account, who died in 2020. They keep sending checks to me in her name. We are not able to cash the checks. I have tried calling and mailing them multiple times. I have sent her death certificate, I have sent the ***** of ********* Nobody is able to resolve this issue. I have filled out all the papers, signed everything. I want WHATEVER the account contains to be transferred to me being the power of attorney. I want all the checks over the last several years to be reissued in my name. This is ridiculous that after 3 years I am still getting nowhere with this company. I want them to transfer and cash out whatever is in this ACCOUNT: ***********!Business Response

Earlier this year, 2023, I phoned ComputerShare to request a replacement certificate for my ****** shares. The certificate I had was misplaced, not lost! Whomever tends to these problems decided the certificate was lost and froze my account. As I knew, eventually I located my certificate which was misplaced among other paperwork. I phoned ComputerShare again to inform them I had located my certificate and wished to sell a few shares. Another obstacle arose. My deceased husbands name was on the certificate as a co-owner. In order to remove his name and transfer the shares to my name as a new owner I had to fill out forms which would be mailed to me. I received the forms, filled out what was required from me, took the forms to a local bank in order for one form to be notarized and another form needed to have a Medallion Stamp. The branch manager could not affix the Medallion Stamp as she needed an up to date statement from ComputerShare attesting to the amount of shares I own.I contacted ComputerShare on May 16, 2023 with a request for an up to date statement. The agent ordered one, but instead of receiving one via the **** I received an email stating I can access all that I need using my online account. Another obstaclemy account is locked so I cannot access any information.Today is July 10, 2023, almost two months later after my original request for a statement. I am once again after four (4) prior attempts preparing to contact ComputerShare to request the illusive statement. Each of the prior 4 requests resulted in a statement being ordered, but to no avail. Instead emails were sent informing me I can access all my information in my online account. This is almost laughable if I wasnt so angry! This proves to me ComputerShare is the worst place to hold shares for investors. HELLO COMPUTER SHARE: MY ONLINE ACCOUNT IS LOCKED!! PLEASE SEND ME A STATEMENT IN ORDER TO PREPARE TO REMOVE MY DECEASED HUSBANDS NAME AND TRANSFER MY SHARES TO ANOTHER BROKER!!Business Response

Company is locking clients out of custodial/UTMA accounts so they can force a new account opening. They are cooking the books to make it appear that they have more and more new accounts each month but in reality they are just retitling accounts. This company needs to be investigated and shut down. The service they provide can be done by many other reputable organizations.Business Response

Computershare sold my stocks on jun 15. Charged me 35$ for wire transfer and never sent the money. No notification or anything almost three weeks go by and I call to find out they mailed a check and still took 35$ for the failed wire transfer. I confirmed with the bank and the information was correct. Basically the second time they stole 35$ thinking I wouldnt say anything. Its a scam people!!!!Business Response

I transitioned a managed (minor) ComputerShare account to a separate (adult) account. (I am the adult). I am 26 and this took months.Once this happened, ComputerShare then transferred both my shares and my sister's shares into my ****************************** then removed my sister's shares. Now they will not let me sell my shares. I have called multiple times and they are supposed to call me back, but they have put a stop trade restriction on my account and I am unable to access the funds that belong to me. I just want to either sell them or transfer them to another brokerage to get them away from ComputerShare!Business Response

I have attempted to receive my account number from **********************, which now manages my ****** stock. There online system does not have the account number stored anywhere. I called, and the representative attempted to talk me through several ways to get the account number, but eventually realized she was completely wrong and none of the suggestions would give me the full number. She said she was not allowed to give it to me over the phone. Then, she proceeded to tell me that I could get my account number if I paid the ********************** to mail me a new statement, which would take quite a while. I think it is very wrong and problematic that a company does not offer a persons full information in a comprehensive online system (including past statements) and then makes clients pay to receive basic account information. I would suggest this practice be investigated by the BBB.Business Response
