I purchased a couple of Christian kids music albums (digital download) on Christianbook.com back on 5/12/23 and just today realized this company has been quietly billing me $14.95 every single month for a subscription I never asked for. Conveniently for them, theyve never emailed me about these monthly payments or even anything indicating that Im part of any sort of membership whatsoever. I would have never signed up for this. There wasnt even shipping costs associated with my order or any sort of discount. I dont EVER sign up for these things to save a quick **** or whatever the hook is, so Im confident that this was clearly deceptively snuck on me. In all, $313.95 has been taken out of my checking account over the past 21 months. Holy smokes. And then I come on here and read all these similar stories. Im absolutely sick to my stomach. This is a lot of money for our family. Completely unacceptable and unchristian for a company to operate like this.I will be seeking a full refund and if that doesnt happen, Ill be going through absolutely every contact, channel, and resource possible to raise awareness of this ongoing issue and shady business practice at Christianbook.com.Business Response

Christianbook.com began charging my credit card for their "reward program" which I did not sign up for. Since June, 2023 until January of 2025 for ***** per month. When I wrote to them, they insisted that i signed up for this service, which I did not. Either they made it very surreptitious in the process or they are being fraudulent despite its "Christian" name. Here is what the website says .... Your membership is non-transferable. After your trial, your membership will automatically renew each month until you cancel. Your benefits are available only to you and your immediate family. Immediate family" means you, your spouse or partner and your children living in your home who are permanent residents and at least 21 years old. There is a limit of one membership per household. In addition, any Marketplace or Travel purchase that is deemed a commercial (non-personal) use or use in connection with a business, as determined in our sole discretion, will not be eligible for membership benefits, and your membership may be suspended or terminated. I bought 2 Bibles on 11/27/2024 and I was signed up for a membership that I did not consent to. The company sent me an email about joining a membership which I never opened. Nowhere in the purchase process does it say that I am consenting to any sort of membership. They charged me $16.95 twice in the month of January. I would like my $33.90 back. Is this legal? Can a company sign me up for a membership and only inform me of it by an email that is separate from the purchase?Business Response

I placed an order to Christianbook.com Tue, June 25, 2024 for the amount of $26.48 order number ************ MA. It was posted on my charge card Wed, June 26, 2024. I just recently discovered that I have been charged by this company $16.95 a month for 8 months starting on June 20, 2024. That's a total of $135.60 supposedly for Christianbook rewards that I didn't sign up for. I order very little from this business. I would never sign up for something this ridiculous. I believe this is designed as a scam and would like for the business to refund the full amount that has been taken from my *********** account in a very suspicious and sneaky way. I immediately deactivated my credit card because of this. It's strange to me that my order was placed on June 25, ********************************* the $16.95 on June 20th, 2024. Businesses which pull these kind of underhanded tricks should be held accountable.Business Response

Placed an order to Christianbook.com 01/21/24 (order # *********) for some cards. The cards were received as expected. Have just recently found that for the months following this purchase we have been charged ***** each month for christianbook rewards which we did not sign up for. We think this is a scam and would like a refund for these charges. I called them to stop the charges but they did not offer to refund what has been paid in over these months, Feb 2024 to Jan 2025. Total of $203.40.Business Response

I did not sign up for, nor do I receive any benefits from a monthly charge through CHRISTIANBOOK.I did, however, order from them for Christmas last December 2023.Business Response

I purchased a book at Christianbooks and paid for it using my credit card So during the purchase not at my request the company slipped in a rewards program which is just a grift for ***** per month where if you dont cancel (which I never asked for or signed up for) you end up paying. We had a death in the family which caused me to not pay attention to charges on the credit card but I finally got back to checking my statement and saw I had been paying this charge for a year to this fine CHRISTIAN company I spoke to them about today and closed the bogus account and stopped my December payment from paying out This is a fraud being perpetrated on unsuspecting families and I am a retired woman who could use the money they were in my mind stealing from me to buy groceries I really need to hopefully get a refund from them so we will seeBusiness Response
