On February 6th, 2021 Gutter Helmet installation was performed on a new roof with new gutters. We paid Gutter Helmet $6393.00 for these covers through ****** special order. The roofer inspected the roof in August and noted that the screws used in the Gutter Helmet installation are inadequate to prevent leaks due to the absence of a sealing washer and were also rusting. The roofer also noticed that because of how they tucked the gutter cover under the shingles, leaving a single tab exposed on top of the gutter cover every couple of feet, there was water ingress from the gutter cover traveling underneath the shingle tabs. They noted that leaving a single shingle tab exposed is poor roofing practice and leaves it vulnerable to wind damage as well. The roofer suggested a repair to mitigate some of the issues with the screws. I contacted gutter helmet about this repair and invited them to witness the repair to which they did not accept. Now the repair has left Gutter Helmet unable to adjust the covers now and debris is building up in the gutters. I requested multiple times that Gutter Helmet contact our roofer and work with the roofing company to address the issues that are outstanding. They have refused to do so. I asked Gutter Helmet to pay for the damages to the roof, remove the Gutter Helmet system, and refund our money to which they declined. Gutter Helmet inspected the system again recently and insists that it is installed correctly. On top of all of this, the Gutter Helmet system has collected so much debris since the last cleaning two months ago that the rain water is running past the gutter and falling on the ground next to the house, bypassing the gutter. It seems that this system is inadequate for our environment. Gutter Helmet's response was they need to be cleaned more frequently. Your Gutter helmet system was inspected and is installed properly. The warranty states that the system will maintain a free flowing gutter if debris does get into the system we will come out and clean it.Customer Answer

According to our roof installer, ***** ****** *********** ******* (****), Gutter Helmet has damaged our roof with the installation of their product. This means that if there are leaks caused by this damage to our roof, our warranty with **** will not be honored. To be clear, **** is the only entity who would perform any roof warranty repairs due to leaks - not Gutter Helmet and not *********** (our roofing materials supplier). A voided roof warranty is not acceptable and MUST be addressed with **** before this issue can be closed.
According to Gutter Helmets' warranty, they have violated their own Lifetime Performance Warranty. The Gutter Helmet Lifetime Performance Warranty (attached to email) states, "It is the responsibility of the installing dealer to assure that the Gutter Helmet(r) system performs as designed and has been properly attached to your home without damaging the integrity of the structure". We have already paid $563.55 in repairs due to the Gutter Helmet installation and still have outstanding repairs of ~$2,500 that have yet to be performed to maintain our roof warranty with ***** ******** *********** *******. Jared at Gutter Helmet advised us not to perform any additional repairs as those may void the Gutter Helmet warranty. Gutter Helmet has not offered or been willing to resolve the issues with our roof installer to ensure our roof warranty is upheld. We are in a situation that requires assistance to resolve.
The issues that we have raised with Gutter Helmet that are not resolved are listed below.
1. According to ****, the Gutter Helmet installation used improper fasteners (screws) to secure their product to our roof. **** states this poses a leak hazard and voids our lifetime workmanship and installation warranty with them. Additionally, some of the fasteners are rusting already. Some of these screws were covered with shingles during a repair **** has already been performed for $563.55.
2. Gutter Helmet system allowing water ingress under shingles tabs that were improperly isolated by the installation of Gutter Helmet system. **** states this poses a leak hazard and voids our lifetime workmanship and installation warranty with them. Photos demonstrated the improper installation and water migration that is occurring. This has not been repaired yet by ****, but is estimated to cost around $2,500.
3. Gutter Helmet is not aligned properly and presently cannot be adjusted. Mark R******, District Manager of Gutter Helmet, stated that the gutter cover must be aligned or overhang the front of the gutter and they do not as shown by the attached photos. Some of the Gutter Helmet covers are set back from the front of the gutters by as much as 1/4 inch. Because of this, we have areas where more than an expected amount of debris is entering and building up in the gutters. This is especially a concern as our gutters empty into underground drainage pipes that carry the water to the front of the house and clog. At the last cleaning, the Gutter Helmet technician informed us that the Gutter Helmet system cannot be adjusted due to the mitigation applied by **** to address the issues with the fasteners, which glued shingles to the Gutter Helmet system. More shingles are expected to be applied to the Gutter Helmet system with the next repair.
4. The performance of the Gutter Helmet system has thus far been mediocre at best based on the amount of debris we have due to the trees around our home. In just two months since the last cleaning the gutters have already been rendered useless due to the amount of debris that is building up on the Gutter Helmet and rainwater is running past our gutters and onto the ground around our house. It is not a very good solution for our situation as it may require cleaning every month or more.
Regarding issues 1 and 2, Mark R****** made claims to us in-person that our roofing manufacturer, CertainTeed, has approved of the installation method of the Gutter Helmet system as-is. I contacted the roofing manufacturer, *********** Technical Support (1-800-******** ****** *) and spoke with ******* about this. ******* stated *********** makes no such claims about Gutter Helmet or any other company's products or services. ******* also told us that *********** only warranties the roofing materials for manufacturing defects and that any determination about the roof integrity is up to ****. Additionally, Gutter Helmet warranty only covers their product (as per their Exclusion to Warranties), not our roof, so it is imperative that the roof warranty from **** is not voided by the damage caused by improper gutter cover installation.
Following are two options for resolution of these issues that are acceptable to us.
Resolution option 1:
Gutter Helmet uninstalls the Gutter Helmet system, refunding us the full amount we paid for the system as well as the costs associated with repair/restoration of the roof as deemed necessary by ****.
Resolution option 2:
* Gutter Helmet to resolve issues 1 and 2 to the satisfaction of ****. This resolution would be subject to inspection and approval by **** upon completion of the work before resolution would be accepted.
* Gutter Helmet to resolve issue 3 by performing a quality inspection of the entire Gutter Helmet system and properly adjusting the gutter cover to published specifications. This resolution would be subject to inspection and approval by us.
We think these are fair options for resolution and look forward to bringing these concerns to an amicable conclusion.Initial Complaint

I put my name and phone number on a list at convention in Dallas in August. We were merely interested in learning more about the product.
They then called and said they had an appointment to come out to our house on a specific day and time in September. We never made such appointment and I told them not to come out. Ever since then I have received 2-5 voicemails a week from their sales people. I just deleted them hoping they'd stop but it has only increased in frequency. This week alone I called them back twice to have us removed from their call list. After I asked them to remove us for a second time today they actually called twice the same day to leave more voicemails. They said they had made the note to remove us from their list.
This is not effective sales techniques, this is harassment at this point. I have 50+ voicemails from the past 3 months and they only ramp it up after asking to be removed from their list.
I would never ever do business with a company with such practices.Business Response

I've had Gutter Helmets installed on my home for a few years now. Almost immediately I realized that they were ineffective. I called to complain and was originally supported by maintenance that they wanted to conduct on a quarterly basis. The maintenance program has also proven to be quite ineffective. I consistently have water sheet off the roof as if I have no gutters at all. I have called and also emailed several times requesting that they remove the product and provide a refund. I recently have left several voicemail messages with the local customer service office and have emailed the regional manager. I have not received any email or call back responses to my inquiries. They should be more responsive when their product does not work in certain environments and they should simply provide a refund and removal when the product does not work.Business Response

Several years ago Gutter Helmet was installed on our residence. At the time the agreement was formalized the Company indicated the gutters would never clog and if they did clog the Company would remove the debris at no cost. Several of the gutters are now clogged and need service. I have attempted to call 1 (206) 513-2083) and always receive a voice message to enter an extension which I obviously don't have. I have send an email to ******@harryhelmet.com and haven't received a response. I also sent a fax 1-206-735-7251 and did receive a reply indicating the Company would "get in touch" but never received a reply.
Unless this issue is resolved I would recommend Harry Helmet to anyone because of their lack of follow through.Business Response

Several years ago, I purchased gutter. Helmet coverage for my complete roof. I could not locate the installer as it has been more than 25 yers ago. I have a large clump of grass hanging from my guttering in front of my house. It obstructs rain flow. I contacted a person at ************, a gutter. Helmet business. At the time of installation, the installer told me if my guttering ever got clogged up, to calll gutter. Helmet and they will remove the obstruction. The person I talked too said no one could come until 09-06-22. She could not give a time. She confirmed the guttering would be cleaned. I waited all day on 09-06-22 for a service person and none came. I did not even get a telephone call. I want the guttering cleaned. This clump of grass is a large amount of grass at the corner of my house. It is on the street side. Everyone can see it. This does not show the effective ness of the product after the advertisement there would be no clogs. It does not speak well for gutter helmet , to,see this large clump of grass hanging from my guttering. My neighbors have asked me who installed the guttering. I am 80,years old and can not afford to pay someone to,come and clean up the guttering. Someone from gutter helmet should live up to what they say they will do. I have not been treated fairly or with respect by the lack of truthfulness which I have been received . This started in July when I first contacted gutter. Helmet.
I would appreciate some help. It should be noted that I received a door hanger notification telling me to call .888-335-2211 to get a service dept person to come and fix it after I had already had an appointment.Business Response

Nobody answers the phone been trying for a month to get somebody out here to make repairs. Twice no call no show. Can't get the contract and deposit to them. They are charging too much to fix ten damaged pieces over a fourth of what the total amount was for gutters and gutter helmet but nobody else can fix it. Nobody will answer the phone I have lost my patience. I have been very patient until now. We need to get it fixed. They only answer the phone and show up for new sales. On 8/4/22 We left them an estimate to repair the damage. Mrs called us on 8/22/22 and was ready to move forward with the repairs, she was told that we need the contract signed and a deposit . Mrs called in on 8/26/22 wanting to have the contract picked up , that was set up on 8/31/22 , the tech did not make it there that day. Mrs called and left us a message on 9/6/22 , I returned her call the same day and offered to get the contract picked up on 9/9/22 she said she was not available . I explained that she can just mail the contract in and she agreed to do that . I have since called her twice and left messages about other dates to pick up the contract on 9-12-22 if she didn't want to mail . However I have not heard back from her.Initial Complaint

I called Gutter Helmet on Tuesday 7-5-22 in regards to birds nesting in my gutter under the Gutter Helmet. They sent someone out on Monday 7-11-22 to inspect my Gutter Guard system and was told someone would contact me about cleaning out the gutter and adding a gutter helmet cap. I have been calling and leaving messages and sending emails and just getting messages that someone would contact me and I have yet to hear anything. Gutter Helmet offers a lifetime performance warranty as long as you live in your house.Business Response
