I attended Rasmussen University online for 5 and a half weeks and received an email from ************************* on June 13, 2023 at 7:56 am stating I was being dismissed from the University. I was not given a clear reason for my dismissal and was therefore unable to address any issues or defend myself. I also was due a refund back from federal financial aid grants and loans, but due to the school dismissing me I haven't received those funds. I believe it is unfair for the school to collect money for current and future classes while withholding my refund. I would also like to request a clear explanation of the violation that led to my dismissal and a breakdown of any fees or charges that have been assessed. Additionally, I think it is really odd that after federal funds have beenpaid tothe University for the tuition, it drops the students. I believe that the University is engaging in some form of deceit or fraud with that. I believe Rasmussen University does this frequently.Business Response

The information in the letter you received from Rasmussen University is accurate and correct. You are no longer a student at Rasmussen University and all appropriate Refund Policies have been followed as published in the University catalog. Should you require additional information specific to your circumstances, you are advised to reach out to the Campus Executive Director.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: ************** still hasn't informed me as of why I was dismissed, they just stated in their email that I violated school policy but they have yet to inform me what that violation was. Also classes were paid for, but I didn't receive a refund, so therefore I am expecting to not to have a balance in the near future, since I was dismissed from the university due to something that is not my fault.Business Response

08/15/2022 I was re-enrolled at Rasmussen University ADN profession nursing program in July of 2022. I began classes at the *******, ** campus. I have a misdemeanor on my background check so it required me to file an appeal and I did. In August I received a decision and my appeal was denied and I asked why, I did not receive a reason just that it was denied and I would be withdrawn from the school effective immediately. I have a worthless check on my background from 2006, I went to nursing school in 2011 to obtain my LPN and the ******* ***** of ******* approved me to sit for my exam and obtain licensure which I did. Now I know of many individuals in this program at the ******* and *****, ** campus that have felonies on their background and are able to attend this school. I believe that I was treated unfairly and targeted for some reason. This school is very costly and I would like the opportunity to complete my degree like many others with challenges on their background without fear of discrimination for whatever reason they choose to dismiss someone. Please help me get an understanding of this.Business Response

Please know Rasmussen University has a background check policy which can be found in the university catalog at **************************************************************************. Rasmussen University requires students and potential students to pass background checks for admission to some programs. Additional background checks *** be required during a program enrollment prior to practicum or clinical placement. Note that passing a criminal background check for the purpose of program acceptance or practicum or clinical placement is determined by Rasmussen University, in its sole discretion. The background check is designed to alert students and potential students to issues that *** impair their ability to complete clinical externship or practicum activities or to obtain employment upon graduation. The background check is also designed to prevent accumulation of unnecessary loan debt.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: I currently have an LPN license from the ******* BON for the past 11 years. Also, I attended this College previously in 2017 until 2019 with the same background. I have never been denied job nor previous acceptance into any hospital where I attended clinical before. I currently work for Adventhealth which is one of the biggest clinical sites for Rasmussen College. I just want to be treated fairly.Business Response

I was a student at Rasmussen University in ********, **. I completed the nursing program on March 15th, 2023. I was awarded a nursing scholarship through ISAC. The first disbursement was sent to the ******** office on 1-19-2023. I never received the payment. The business office mailed the check to the **************** Staff members in the business office told me that the check was lost and I would have to request another one. I spoke with the state's comptroller, and they re-issued a replacement Warrant request affidavit. The affidavit was sent to Rasmussen's business office in ********, **. I received the affidavit on Friday, March 31st. I mailed it the Saturday, April 1st. I have been speaking to ******* and ******** from the business. I was told today, 4/19/23, that they had not received the affidavit and that it had gotten lost in the mail, and I needed to call the comptroller's office again to have another one issued. I believe someone is tampering with the mail because this check was sent to the school in January, and I still have not received my funds. Can someone help me with this issueBusiness Response

This complaint is specific to Rasmussen University and the nursing programs. The administration, without prior notice, altered the requirements for testing and refuse to provide a rationale to students. When asked we are simply dismissed or given the typical "it's only policy". The changes made force students to receive a specific score on a third-party exam to pass the class. The problem I and hundreds of other students have with this is that 1. The content of these exams is not taught to us. Students are completely responsible for teaching themselves and instructors are unaware of what content will actually be on these exams. 2. They changed their policy to disallow students an opportunity to retake these tests and give them a failing grade for the course in which the test was taken. This is absurdly unfair as the tests are not associated with the course in any form. For example, a test on nutrition is given through a third-party, not the actual school, and it occurs in a selected nursing course that does not teach about nutrition. If you are unable to pass this test you are given an "F" for that course and required to retake it the following semester as well as repeat your clinical rotation. I can understand having a passing requirement for testing but they simply tell students that they must teach themselves this information in a matter of weeks or risk failing a course that is completely unrelated to the test is unethical. 3. Then there is the matter of their repeat policy. This institution allows for a student to fail/drop a single course, if this happens more than once the student is simply kicked from the program. I decided to attend this school under the promise that it was a fair and standardized program but it is far from that. I don't understand how they are allowed to change policies over winter break without any updates to students. Rasmussen is intentionally forcing competent students to retake classes to further the money they can make off of them.Business Response

Hello Financial Aid,Ive been looking at my award letter and tuition charges. I was told by financial aid from multiple people that I would only be charged $200 payment plan for my previous balance of $569. Which is fine. When Im looking at my charges for this semester, I see that you guys added a $569 charge from last year to my total balance. My charges went from $2497 to $3067 after you added the $569 to my tuition charges. Then you applied my financial aid after that which left me with ($2188).Then on top of that your system still says I owe $569. How is this possible if you already added it to my total charges and made my access funds lower because of the $569?When I was already told by financial aid Rasmussen can only legally take only take $200, which means my balance due to student should be around ($2488). And amount due for last semester should be $369. As someone in financial aid already confirmed but thats not what is reflecting on my charges. I have to pay this money back and I would appreciate for everything to reflect accordingly.Someone stated they would call me back and never did. This persona also stated her manager would call me ******, never did. Rasmussen has no legal right to take the whole $569 out my government financial aid, you can only take $200. And yes, ** putting in my complete here because this is not the first issue that I have had with the school. Its very discouraging when students go through these kind of situations and theyre not getting resolved so now you guys leave me no choice but to put a complaint on the Better Business Bureau. Ive emailed everyone even the **** and no response.Business Response

I failed two classes even though my course work and tests I took I passed with high grades. I have one semester left to complete my associates in which ******** has been fully paid for and they have dropped me from the college based on their grading scale. Any other college I would have passed. Im not allowed to appeal per my instructor. Im a single mom and now have to pay for my loans in which I have no degree. Im now in a major financial hardship because the college doesnt care. They get to take your money from you and destroy your life without accountability. The college offers no options nor do they care about a students future. Beware! If your looking to attend here.Business Response

In order to take online classes with Rasmussen University, I had to submit to a background check which I done. It's also important to note that the length of Rasmussen University's courses are 5 & 1/2 weeks long. On my 4th week, I get an email from Rasmussen saying I am not accepted due to my background check. I only had 1 more week of class left when they let me know that so I didn't do anymore classes. They emailed me again saying I have a balance for the school that I need to pay which I do not believe is right because they should've let me know before the classes began that I was not accepted that way I didn't waste those 4weeks and be charged for something that I should not be charged for and I could've figured out a different course to take.Business Response

I am having issues with scheduling, having moved our start date twice before the start of the semester. Then they made it a requirement that we have to take our test on campus for a class that was originally supposed to be online. I have no problem with taking a course online, but my issue is that I took this course last semester and while it was taught online, all of the lectures were pre-recorded and the professor did not schedule actual instructional time to go over the materials she taught. She only scheduled a review of materials every 2.5 weeks in which she talked and question and answer sessions were not provided to give students further understanding of materials or test concepts. Having, this experience, I requested a different instructor for this course and was given the same instructor again for this course, which I dropped the course in fear of failure. I contacted my academic advisor, asking for other instructors to retake this course, and was informed via an automated system that she was no longer with the university. I am not able to choose my courses, so I have no say in the courses that I take in a given semester. Scheduling every semester has been a problem progressing through this educational journey, I was told that this program was made for working adults, and thus far it has not been at all work-life friendly. I work in the medical field currently and have an understanding boss who has the same sentiments about the university as she has had employees attending the school. The university has given unacceptable time frames for getting the necessary paperwork for clinicals or vaccines. Requiring a 24 hour turn around is very unprofessional and exhibits a lack of organizational skills that they are trying to teach the students attending. All these missteps in this organization have me concerned that this school is losing its accreditation in nursing and is not telling students the truth about their current situations.Business Response
