When I first received a letter from AscensionPoint (1/17/23) seemed sketchy. The letter stated that they were a debt collector but didn't state specifically what debt they were collecting or an amount. I called and before they would clarify any of that information I had to provide my mothers date of birth and date of death. I'm very protective of my mother's personal information and this was extremely uncomfortable for me. They stated that they represented Citicard and after waiting for Citicard representatives to be available after the weekend, I verified that AscensionPoint did represent Citicard. I paid the debt owed. The check cleared the first week of February. I was unable to get a receipt from their website, although it did show the debt was paid. I called and was told that I should received a receipt stating that debt was paid in full by Feb 21st. February 23rd called again and they said that the receipt had "just been mailed" Feb 21st and to wait 10 business days because the mail is slow. I was angry because I felt as if I was being given the brush off. The representative gave me to another and they stated they could fax. I called back later providing my lawyers fax number and the representative stated that they might not fax it right away as they "fax only several times each day". My lawyer stated she would call me when received. So far, no fax. Their business practice needs to change. Expecting a receipt and for a company to do what they said they are going to do is not unreasonable.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

This Company called me asking me about my stepdad's estate. I called them back asked them what this was regarding she would not tell me. She only wanted to know if I was in charge of the estate. I asked her how they got my number and she said they did a family search?! So you just seen my stepdad passed away and searched for his family?! Called me up looking for information? She asked me my relation to my stepdad. absolutely would not tell me what the phone call I received was about. I said you won't tell me what this is about but you called me? This has been a very hard thing to through with his passing and I don't appreciate these people calling me trying to get information about his estate. The estate is going through probate and we have a lawyer handling everything. I would appreciate then not contacting me or my family again we have enough to deal with already!AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

Dear ****************:Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention, and please accept this response on behalf of AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC, as an apology for any inconvenience or stress you *** have experienced. More importantly, please accept our most sincere condolences for your loss of your step-father. To provide a bit of background, our office specializes in estate recoveries for our clients and our efforts center on attempting to locate an authorized estate representative to assist in the resolution of accounts out of estate assets, if any. Accordingly, we are bound by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act that sets forth the individuals with whom a debt collector *** communicate, which includes an executor. As you indicated you were not the executor, our ability to communicate with you reduced. Thank you for closing the case. We have a lawyer handling the estate. No one is the executor at this point until the judge appoints my mom so you wouldn't have been able to talk to anyone.Review fromMary S

Shame, shame, SHAME on them for chasing deceased people's money and hounding the grieving loved ones - saying they "can only give details to the person handling the estate". I hope they know what they can do with the template apology they are going to offer. If not, I'll happily explain in detail.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

My dear mother passed away in August and my elderly father who was my mother's EX husband and who has been remarried to his current wife for 30 years received a letter from this company searching for my deceased mother's "estate handler". Needless to say, my Mom had cancer and was penniless when she passed away in a nursing home on medicaid. There is no "estate". I was only her medical power of attorney. I did not have financial power of attorney status. My Mom did not have any significant amount of money. She lived month to month. We had to scramble to come up with the money needed to pay for her cremation and her funeral and we are on a very limited income. If my mom had any outstanding bills, I am not in a position to be able to pay them and I am not responsible for her debts. I have no idea what she owes, if anything. As far as the nursing home, she was on medicaid and we have our own bills that we can barely keep up with. I wish this company would not call my family. It's hard enough losing my mom. It doesn't seem right.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

How dare these ppl send me a letter re: my “mother’s estate”. That is hilarious! I am no estate holder and neither is anyone else in my family!! I don’t even know what the letter I received was for! If they are looking for money they are sadly mistaken! My mother died penniless! All she left behind were her children and grandchildren who still can’t get over that she is gone! So please do not make this any harder on us! Leave us alone!!!! Take your business elsewhere because you are barking up the wrong tree if money is what you are after!AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

I just received a phone call from AscensionPoint regarding my husband's ex-wife who passed away recently. They had been divorced for almost 40 years. I have no idea where they got my name and phone number, nor do I know why they would contact a non-relative about debt relief. We were cordial but not close, so how did they get my information?Sounds like phishing to me.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

They are relentless. They have many different numbers so you cannot block them. They just reach out to anyone who they think is related, probably by a ****** search, which is really upsetting. They need to stop. They just harass to no end, now I just unplug my phone. They start calling and calling, within 2 months of someone passing. There isn't a way to get blood from a rock, so they need to give up, because this person died leaving no assets of any kind, there is no administrator of the estate because there are no assets. For a company to leave a robot voiced message, who would ever return their call?AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

My husband passed away and to settle his estate I had to use AscensionPoint. They put me, and my attorney, through hoops. Different people I spoke to gave different answers. They just didn't give a **** about what it's like to lose my husband and kept on having me do things over and over. They continued making errors and sending me requests that had already been completed. I think they should be sued for malpractice and unethical behavior. They certainly don't have experienced people who know what they're doing. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They continually stressed me out with their negligence.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

Dear ****************:Thank you, sincerely, for bringing your concerns to our attention and please accept this response on behalf of AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC, as an apology for any confusion or stress this process may have caused. Please know that we do take concerns such as yours very seriously.By way of background, given our business model we are typically bound by various laws and regulations that set forth the individuals with whom we are allowed to communicate when we gain knowledge that someone with whom we are communicating is represented by legal counsel. That is, once we learn of legal representation, we are thereafter precluded from communicating with the individual absent consent from their counsel. Many of these laws and regulations recognize the importance of limiting communications to the correct individuals to protect against unfair, deceptive or abusive practices and we honor and respect that aim.In light of that, our records reveal that on July 26, 2022, we learned you were represented by legal counsel. On August 22, 2022, our office requested permission to communicate with you from your counsel, but our request was denied. Despite the numerous times you contacted our office, we were unable to communicate directly with you about specific details. It was not until October 13, 2022, when you contacted our office with your legal counsel and your counsel granted permission to our office to communicate directly with you, that we were able to ******************, which we have done from that point forward. Please understand that we follow these rules and regulations not to make estate administration more difficult for anyone, but to adhere to applicable law. Also, although we disagree with your characterization of our offices handling, we understand and empathize with any frustration this all may have caused. As such, and to avoid additional difficulties, please be advised that we have closed the file in our office, notified our client of this occurrence and returned the matter back to our client. As a result, you should not receive any further communication from our office regarding this matter. We trust our actions satisfactorily address your concerns at this time, and again please accept our most sincere apologies and condolences. This is a horrible unethical company. My mother is deceased so they start calling me trying to collect her debt.........??? Really? She died penniless and they're trying to figure out how to squeeze something out of nothing. Unbelievable! Takes a "special" type of person to work for this place and do the debt collecting.
