If only I could leave zero stars, I would. My family received a letter regarding my father's estate. There is no estate, as all that was left was joint assets that in NY belong to the surviving spouse, and said spouse is not responsible for medical or consumer debt that is solely in the name of the deceased.
When attempting to access the portal to confirm the debt they are attempting to collect on, we entered the deceased birthdate and death date. Yet the portal continually tells us the dates are wrong. We are very much aware of the date of his birth and death. If this company cannot get even the simplest fact correct then we will no longer engage. Do not contact us again

If i could give a zero, i would. My mother has been gone for a little over a month and i received a letter from Ascension Point regarding her estate. She does not have one. Shame that this company feel they should have the right to contact people following a lost. God bless you for your greed, crudiness and lack of humanity.

I contacted AscensionPoint about a credit card debt for my brother's estate. I gave them my info, and asked for a settlement. They gave me a figure for a settlement, and said that a settlement letter would be sent quickly. Instead, they sent the estate attorney a notice about the debt that included the full amount, and didn't mention a settlement. Don't give these guys any information that would allow them to do an end run around you.

Review ID: ****** Dear ****************:Thank you for letting us know of your concerns, and please accept this response on behalf of AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC, as an apology for any inconvenience or confusion you may have experienced. Please also accept our most sincere condolences for the loss of your brother. By way of background, our office specializes in estate recoveries for our clients and our efforts center on attempting to locate an authorized estate representative to assist in the resolution of accounts out of estate assets, if any. Please understand that at no time were we attempting an end run around you, but rather we were attempting to get the proper information to the appropriate party in accordance with applicable law. To provide some background, our office is deemed that of a debt collector and so our actions are governed by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (****** **** et seq. (also see generally Regulation F, 12 CFR ****, implementing the ****** and the Federal Trade Commissions Statement of **************** Communications in Connection with the Collection of Decedents Debts (FTC Statement). Pursuant to these authorities, we are required to (1) provide the known authorized estate representative with a validation notice containing a full itemization of the account (including the amount of the debt placed in our office) and notice of the estates rights, and (2) direct any and all communications to a known attorney representing the authorized estate representative unless and until we obtain the permission from said attorney to discuss estate matters directly with the estate representative. It is with these two directives in mind that our handling of this matter may be best explained.Specifically, at the conclusion of your referenced telephone call we stated that we would be mailing two letters a validation letter (pursuant to the aforementioned authorities) and a settlement letter memorializing the settlement discussed on the call you advised our office that you would review the letters with your attorney. Having thus far been unaware of attorney involvement, we then confirmed the attorney was representing you on estate matters and following your confirmation of the attorneys contact information, we issued the aforementioned letters directly to your attorney as required by law: the validation letter on June 22, 2023, and the settlement letter on June 23, 2023. At no time were we attempting to operate in any sort of nefarious manner through our issuance of these letters.Notwithstanding, in light the information you have kindly shared and to allay any further concern, we have updated our records and notified our client of the issues raised. Further, we have closed and are returning this matter back to our client to ensure that neither you nor your counsel will receive any further communications from our office regarding this matter. We do again apologize for any inconvenience or confusion experienced through this process, and thank you for taking the time to notify us of your concerns. We trust our explanations and actions herein satisfactorily address your concerns at this time. But if not or there are any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. My mother passed away and we received a letter from this business that my mother has an account with them and they are attemping to contact the executor of the estate. I called them and the first thing they asked for was her date of birth, ss#, and my personal informaiton. I asked what account she has with them and was told it's her estate account. I asked what kind of account it is and was told they could not tell me if i was not authorized to act on the behalf of the estate. Of cource I did not tell them and again asked what it was regarding and was told it was about my mother's estate account?? I was then told I did not have to provide the information so I did denied to provide any information. This is a recovery, scaming business, phishing for personal information.

Not the first vulture and probably not the last. More people that prey on grief.
Unsolicited letter worded as collections from this group, a probate and estate servicing company, requesting information about my mom''s estate.
The estate has a probate lawyer and public notices have been posted for creditors, another notice is planned for the last of this month, May, Any agencies with a balance due have been provided with the necessary contact information and are more than able to contact us to provide a bill, any necessary payments will be made directly to those agencies, not through some shady phishing company.

I called them back after my mother got a letter from them with a reference #. I am the estate executer and have the Letters of Testamentary. I am professional fraud investigator and they basically filled every check box for fraud.
-Contacting the wrong personal - public records are public
-Not having the full name of the person in question
-When I wanted to know about this issue they would not say who they represented
-They could only accept forms (fax) about my taking care of my dad's estate after I gave (verified) personal information about my dad.
When I asked them to verify that they had any of the information they were asking for me "verify" about my dad like date of birth, date of death, etc. they said they could not tell me any of the information. I asked for them to verify that they even knew the month of my dad's birth ( a one in 12 guess) they said they could not give that information. They would not even tell me what my fathers full name was. They insisted I had to give it to them and then they would verify if it was correct.
When I insisted that I speak to a supervisor I was sent to voice mail.
They initiated the connection with the letter to my mom but would give no way to verify that it was not a scam. My dad was very good with records and bills were not unpaid. He never held credit. Used cards but paid off every month for the rewards. The only credit program he was using was a furniture purchase to get a discount and a 0% (not even accrued interest).
If they are not scammers they defiantly could teach a class on how to phish for information.

Your reply on this BBB report sounds exactly like the description I originally described. Based on many comments here, at the BBB website, it seems common for the group DBA "AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC" uses the same technique to get information from many grieving family. Since you are contacting the families the onus is upon you to verify any debts you are claiming is due from the estate. In my case it easy to verify that my father was debit free and that the claim was fraudulent. I only wish I had kept the envelope and was able to pursue this through the ** ************** as a possible illegal use of the ** **************. (I have the letter sent to my mom, just not the envelope)Actually as I type this I realize that I may be able to recover an image of the letter envelope through the delivery confirmation service that the ** ************** offers. Next time I am with my mom I will see what we have to do, if it is possible, to recover the envelope image and pursue a mail fraud case. Your activities are deplorable and worse as these families deal with the deaths of loved ones. If my father was someone who took on debt I might have questioned if your letter had any merit. Once again it is up to any company seeking personal data to verify who they are and what is the legitimate business they are representing. To the other people reading this reply: - Never tell anyone who is initiating contact with you; your or anyone's date of birth, mothers maiden's name, location of birth, Social Security number (or any other official account numbers), banking and credit account information, or any other personally identifiable information. These cautions must be especially taken whenever you have a company like this who refuses to give you any real and supporting details about the reason they are contacting you.

I just received a message on my house phone, which I have unplugged from the line for harassing phone calls like this company. My mom passed away 2 months ago, and now 2 months later these people are calling and leaving a message about some estate. There is no estate, I have a will from an attorney and I still do have this attorney, for purposes and issues like this. So, these people might want to back off and stop calling.

Don't give this company any information, they somehow got my wife's phone number asking about my Dad's estate. (My dad passed a year ago) My Mom is on all the billing information for my Dad's business dealings and if they truly had a client seeking collections, they would have my Mom's information and would have contacted her 1st. This company seems to be phishing for information, as per other reviews as well.

I'm in a wheelchair and can't speak. I come home to have my day ruined by these people. They sent this letter randomly for information.
Do your own research instead of "cold calling" grieving relatives! Absolutely horrible behavior and they should be so ashamed of themselves. Creating tears and wasting trees.
Reading the replies, I was even more disgusted because people are so upset and they paste this form letter that they apparantly need a lot. That makes it an empty apology and so does the fact that they continue to do it to others! That's not sorry.

My father passed away suddenly in January. It has been a traumatic experience made much worse by this company sending a letter addressed to the estate of my father TO MY PLACE OF WORK which was opened by my employer. My father was never associated with my company and it is located in another state. All of his creditors have been notified of his passing. This is sick behavior on part of this company and which ever company they are representing. It's predatory. No other word for it. Disgusting. My family is grieving and they want to take advantage.
