We called Varsity Tutors back in March for tutoring assistance for my son, ***** ******. Once we heard the cost, we decided that we were no longer interested. It's not in my family's budget. My son explained this to them over the phone back in March. They have continued to call every week since then when we have clearly told them we no longer need their assistance. It's been a month and a half. It's bad business to keep calling and reminding customers to finish setting up their account and schedule an appointment when you've been told that's not possible. If they're doing it because my son is 17 years old, that's REALLY bad business. So here's his mother letting them know to leave us know through the Better Business Bureau. My son's number is ************. I need them to remove his number and leave him alone. I'm done.Business Response

On January 10, 2025, I registered for a one-time 8-hour tutoring package with Varsity Tutors for $480, which was paid by my previous employer. I never authorized any recurring plan. Nor did I receive any notice of payment thru my text message or emails. On May 6, 2025, my former employer asked me to contact Varsity Tutors. I was informed by the representative ****** that Varsity Tutors had been charging $480 monthly for February, March, and April 2025 totaling $1,440. I was never notified of these charges and never used any tutoring services after the initial January session.I contacted Varsity Tutors to request a refund and cancel any recurring billing, but I have not received a satisfactory resolution.I am requesting:1. A full refund of $1,440 for unused and unauthorized charges to my former employer.2. Immediate cancellation of any subscription or billing tied to my account.3. Written confirmation that no future charges will occur. If not resolved, I am prepared to dispute the charges with the credit card company and file a report with the ****Thank you very much!Business Response

The company requested that I fill out a contract to authorize payment I did not submit it as it has additional fees on there that were not initially disclosed. On the first day of Tutoring they canceled the same day. My son is hard of hearing and I informed them he had a test the next day. They continue to schedule tutoring for him that I did not agree too. Many of the times are when he is in class. I have reached out several times in an attempt to cancel and they never return my email or call. This has been an awful experience we have never had a tutoring session and we do not want to continue with these services as I have stated to them via email several times !Business Response

I called Varsity Tutors in order to request a refund because I did not receive the services that I paid for. At the time when I was charged I wasnt trying to cancel my plan. The reason Im asking for a refund is because my tutor kept asking me to reschedule every single time wed have a session, and when he didnt ask me to reschedule he just wouldnt show up. I dont understand how that can be my fault, and I even have the messages asked the company if they would like me to send them screenshots. I shouldnt be forced to pay $343.20 for lessons I wasnt able to receive, especially when I did put in effort to schedule them. And when my tutor finally got back to me he told me I should pause my tutoring to focus on classes. Not allowing for me to get a refund when it was their employees fault for continually rescheduling and not communicating is very unjustified.Business Response

Ive responded to both their calls and email numerous times, in which they wouldnt provide a clear answer as to why they wouldnt give me a refund. They only replied and agreed to refund me AFTER I submitted my complaint to the BBB. And I dont appreciate how their response to my complaint implies that I wasnt in communication with them, when I called and emailed them multiple times. Ive received my refund thankfully, but Id like ********************** to be flagged because their policies are fraudulent. They claim they have a money back guarantee but then tried to prevent me from getting a refund for services I didnt utilize in a situation that was out of my control and due to their own employee.Initial Complaint

Complaint Summary:Varsity Tutors LLC - I am filing a complaint regarding deceptive billing practices by Varsity Tutors LLC for ACT tutoring services and being evasive when questioned about these charges. Details:We began working with Varsity Tutors LLC on August 16, I made it clear that we only needed four weeks of tutoring for my daughters ACT test on September 14. It was communicated this was my daughter's LAST ACT test in four weeks. However, we were charged $529 per month in September, October, November, and December totaling over $2,100. During the time following her September 14th test, she did not access their website, tools, or schedule any additional One-on-One tutoring sessions.I contacted them twice about the charges, I explained my mother was battling breast cancer during this period, which made it difficult to monitor our accounts, but the company did not reply to my second request and showed no willingness to work with us. I was denied a transcript of our initial call and was told that the fees were disclosed. Additionally, the company made NO (zero) effort to contact or reach out to us for services we were paying for, or to confirm if we still required the service, despite us never logging into their website or scheduling any one-on-one tutoring. They just kept billing us for no services being used, which I believe is deceptive and not operating in good faith. The lack of clear communication and ongoing billing without active use of the service raises serious concerns about their business practices.Desired Resolution:I am requesting a full refund for the months of October, November, and December, totaling $1,587, and that the company review their billing policies and communication ************ aware, upon reviewing their BBB profile, I found that many other customers have experienced similar issues, which raises further concerns about the companys approach to billing and standing behind its product and customer service.Business Response

I signed up for eight tutoring sessions with Varsity Tutors. The sales person asked me if I wanted to continue tutoring sessions up until my entrance exam. I said no I can only afford eight sessions. The salesperson and I had an understanding that I only was paying for eight sessions. She never mentioned that Id be charged 520 dollars monthly. She never mentioned a subscription, if she did I would have said NO. In fact, she knew I only wanted eight sessions.Four months later, I wake up to an over draft alert on my phone. Turns out, they have been charging me 520 monthly for the past three months. I had no clue. I have only ever used 5 sessions- I didnt even complete my eight because I did not find the tutor helpful. This is predatory. I said no to more sessions and she still set me up for the subscription. I spoke on the phone with customer service, they said I should have canceled it if I didnt want to be charged all these months. How could I have canceled it all these months ago if the sales associate failed to mention it even existed.Business Response

There is a policy which states that if you do not pass you exam, your money will be refunded. I did not pass an exam and I have requested a refund to no vail. I have been sending emails but was only contacted once. I was told there will be an investigation. That was over 2 weeks ago. I wish I never signed up for Varsity Tutors. I just want my money back.Customer Answer

I was contacted by Varsity Tutors regarding an exam. I informed the representative that I have the test scheduled for April 1st. I was told that I can schedule for 6 hours with a tutor. I was also informed that if I fail I will be refunded. Varsity Tutors is giving me the run around. I would like my refund to receive help elsewhere.Customer Answer

I received a phone call from the Varsity Tutor and asked for a few sessions because my test date was April 1, 2025. I received six sessions with my tutor. I failed my exam. I was informed that there is a refund if you do not pass. I called to request a refund to pursue help from a different company. Someone from Varsity Tutor stated that I had 12 sessions. This is unbelievable because I only had 6. Varsity Tutor has been giving me the run around. I have not spoken to the person assigned to my case in 2 weeks. But when I call, a representative states that the person has been calling me daily. I do not have any missed calls. Varsity Tutor will say anything not to refund someone their money. I have proof that I had six sessions because it was confirmed in the Video Sessions. Someone Please Help!Business Response

On January 17 I spoke with a representative with Varsity Tutors & explained Id be testing for my SIE, Series 6, & 63 exams, I also explained that my company had us on a very strict time schedule. I was baited into purchasing 36 hours for tutoring for all three exams totaling $3052.80. I failed my 1st exam & was given the choice to be refunded in full or be given back the 12 hours used. Again, I explained I had a lot of hours left & I didnt think I needed them for the remaining 2 tests but I was talked into taking the "free" 12 hours & was told that I would use those hours immediately, meaning the other 24 "paid" hours would remain untouched. I am one week out on finishing my last exam & still have 28 hours available & requested a refund for 24 of the unused hours to which I was told no. This was after I spent 2 times on a digital chat with no answers & told it would be escalated to an account manager who will never give you their name in email. After requesting twice for a refund of the unused hours due to being oversold, told I didn't need that many hours multiple times, & felt scammed & baited, they agreed to refund 9 hours of $720.80 & told me 12/28 hours are the refunded hours that have no value because they dont use those hours until the end which is the opposite of what i was told in February. They refused to make an exception to refund the remaining 7 unused hours as well. At this point I am looking for a refund for $1314.40 for the remaining unused hours that I was oversold & baited on. They clearly make commission on overselling hours to people & then turn around & tell them whatever they want to hear so they do not take the refund & then turn around & say oh sorry can't help you, find a tutor for something else. This company is scamming people out of large dollar amounts of unused time & overselling hours. They are making millions off of people trying to do better in ************ is going into their pockets with nothing to show because they were oversold.Customer Answer
