While speaking with a sales representative, I was told that if I purchased a 1 month subscription for their service, it would be at no risk to me because I could obtain a refund if, after that month, I didn't feel it was a good fit. Upon seeking a refund after the month was over, due to not being satisfied with the service, I was told that I could not get a refund for the "credits" that were used. There is no way I could have completed a month subscription without using all of the credits (4 1 hour sessions) which I had discussed with the sales representative, who suggested 1 session per week. I was sold this subscription with false or misleading information and I would like a full refund as promised.Business Response

I ordered 8 hours tutoring program with the advisor of Varsity Tutoring over the phone on March 7 to April 6. I made it clear my son only needs those service those thirty days. The advisor never mentioned the eight hours program would ne automatically renewed if I did not send notice of cancellation. Today April 11, when I check my credit statement, I got charged the second time of $789 from April 7- May 6. I feels scammed by this company, I have account with company more than 6 years, never got any program renewed automatically before. The advisor never mentioned this change when we talked about this eight hours program for March. I feel being taken advantage.Business Response

on February 5, *************************************************************** the past we had used Varsity tutors for my daughter who was several years older than he. they had an account on file because we had used them in the past. after our discussion, they said they would send us more information via email and if we chose to activate our account, we could do so by signing the agreement and logging in. we never did that. in fact - we didnt need the tutoring because we found an alternative. despite the fact that we never signed the agreement or ever even logged in, they have been charging us over $500 per month since then - completely unauthorized. i have emailed them multiple times telling them to refund my money as they were never authorized to deduct to begin with! they respond with a canned response and no further action. this is 100% theft. not only do they not cancel - they owe me every single ***** of this money they have been stealing from me. i never once authorized, i have never even signed the agreement or ever logged in after my daughter used her account back in 2020.Business Response

I requested an 8 sections math tutoring for my daughter. I spoke with a lady who sold me 8 sections. I did not sign any agreement for monthly services because my daughter did not need no more than the 8. I now find out that the woman sign me up for monthly services which was never used. I did not sign any agreement and want the 3 additional months to be refunded.Business Response

We signed up for Varsity Tutors on 1-30-2025. After our first few sessions, our daughter was not really happy with the tutor that was provided. The person was hard to understand and didn't really seem to care about their job. We were assigned a seperate tutor who was not any good either. This new tutor wouldn't even turn their camera on during the tutoring sessions. However, we were prepared to continue with this tutor but then she sent us an email on 2-25-25 stating she was cancelling all future sessions. We were then auto billed $529 on 2-28-25. We called Varsity Tutors and tried to resolve the issue, but they were not willing to reverse the charge even though their Tutor was the one who cancelled on us. We disputed the charge and didn't get anywhere for 30 days. Now, Varsity Tutors is stating we missed our opportunity to even schedule new sessions. We were willing to take the tutoring sessions instead of a refund. They won't do either. They are essentially stealing $529. They were never upfront about this being an auto billed service and are unwilling to even give us the services we paid for.Business Response

I was never informed that I was signing up for a new membership service. This constitutes a serious lack of transparency in the sales process. As a recurring customer who has always purchased tutoring on an hourly basis in the past, this sudden switch to a membership model happened without my explicit knowledge. I have been billed for monthly charges when I did not use Varsity Tutor (VT) services.Out of the 10 hours per month plus 2 free hours I was allegedly entitled to, I have only used 3 hours total. I have been charged for FOUR MONTHS (January through April) during which I did not use ANY of VT services whatsoever. I am being billed for a service I neither agreed to nor utilized. I will pay for the three hours of tutoring services I used at the commercial rate for their tutoring services but I demand a refund for the four months during which I did not use ANY of VT services. I explicitly informed my tutor about my schedule incompatibility due to my new class schedule. Following this notification, I received NO follow-up communication from my tutor or anyone at ** about how to adjust my tutoring schedule, options for pausing or canceling the membership, or steps I needed to take to remedy the situation It is unreasonable to continue charging a client who has clearly communicated their inability to use the services and who was never properly informed about the nature of the financial agreement in the first place. Throughout my history as a customer, I have consistently purchased tutoring by the hour as needed, and there was no clear indication that this transaction would be handled differently.I demand an immediate refund for all unused hours and all charges incurred.Business Response

On February 8th, I ordered 8 hours of tutoring sessions for my daughter for SAT tutoring from Varsity Tutors. On March 8th, she took the SAT, and she got a near perfect score. Also, on March 8th, Varsity tutors continued to charge us, without authorization. We were clear multiple times that we only ordered 8 hours of tutoring, yet they continue to charge over $500 each month without authorization. Why would my daughter need tutoring after taking the SAT? It seems that this is a very very common complaint. Please, refund this unauthorized charge before I take the company to court. The email on the account ********************** phone number is **********.Business Response

I was charged for 7 months of tutoring for my son. He used the tutor for 2 months. I am seeking a refund for 5 months that he did not use the service.Start date 9/13/2024 end date 10/29/2024 Varsity tutors does not provide a contract that is emailed to you. They deduct $499.00 monthly for a math tutor. My son had one subject ( math) with his tutor. You cannot email them to cancel the service, you have to call. Which I did. They said I did not. They couldn't find my cell number. I find this very unsettling. How easy for them to say I didn't cancel. There are no invoices or paper trail with this company. On March 12, 2025 I spoke with ******** ******* to request a refund. She emailed me and stated a $499. refund would be credited to my card. I closed my card, as I did not trust that the payments would stop. As my card is closed I could not receive the credit. But I am requesting $2495.00 refund. Why would I keep a service when my son passed his math GED test at the end of October 2024. He had no reason to continue with the tutor, as it was only one subject. My date/charges at $499.00 9/13/2024 10/15/2024 11/13/2024 12/13/2024 1/13/2025 2/13/2025 3/13/2025 I will send bank statement transactions if needed. ******** tried to persuade me to use the service again instead of a refund. I told her we have no use for it because my son passed his math test. $3493.00 to pass one math test and 2 months of tutoring . I hope you can help, thank you. ***** *********Customer Answer

- Paid for 1 month of services, 4 hrs of tutoring, 1 group session/week, access to website for AP AB Calculus. Account under ******* ***** *************************** - Did not give me notice that service was nonrefundable.-Session did not meet daughters need for refresher course/ general overview. Only will answer specific questions and homework review.-My daughter gave her schedule before paying and then told her the group met the only night she couldnt attend.- My daughter was clear on her needs and her schedule. The interaction with the tutor only clarified that they only would cover one problem at a time.-My daughter struggled to keep the tech connected and made the session frustrating. Found the interaction uncomfortable. Does not want to continue. Found it a waste of time. -Called and canceled Tuesday afternoon. Still do not have confirmation of cancellation yet (its been 24 hours) but received a survey.- Mined my daughter for site improvements/ exit interview before admitting that the membership was non refundable. Would not prorate membership for 1 session use.- I took over the call. Specifically told the *** she would not be continuing sessions or using website. **** offering more sessions instead of confirming cancellation. - Saturdays call was a smooth sales pitch with a tonight only 10% off sales pitch.-Tuesdays interaction was again another sales/marketing ploy. I think they will keep her account active and bill me again 4/29.-I think they made promises they werent likely to keep while seeming flexible with the potential of changing tutors.Customer Answer

I contacted Varsity tutors Summer of 2024 to help my son with his *** certification program and was extremely disappointed from the first call!!!! Unfortunately, not too many tutors offer *** *****ing, so I went along with ************************* begin with, the first ***** was not knowledgeable and didn't inform us until 3 classes were completed, and then canceled remaining classes. Second ***** was a bit more knowledgeable, but did not teach/*****, she just read slides from the internet (we could have done this ourselves).Lastly, we were scheduled for 10 classes, and towards the end, our ***** scammed us and told us we can still continue classes because our last class was end of October. Come to find out, this was inaccurate , and now Varsity is charging me for classes the ***** said we can continue to take. In addition, Varsity refuses to either call me back and resolve tis issue.Business Response
