My power use has actually decreased, but my bill was double of last year. Last month's bill was a hundred dollars higher than usual, and this month's is 200!! I'm disabled and must live frugally, but if they take half of what social security is giving me, how can I expect to survive? Pay taxes? Make home improvements? Pay for insurance? Seriously, I am one person, in a small house with a cat- It shouldn't cost 400 damned dollars, when I'm cold most of the time. If I was running the heat on max with all the windows and doors open, I would expect this kind of ****. I suggest an ethics review, because this is gross.

Ameren Illinois conducted a thorough investigation of the subject complaint, which revealed the following information.

      On 05/18/21, **** ******* established residential electric service at *** * ****** **** ******** ** ****** ******* *************

On 12/13/22, Ameren Illinois issued a bill statement for $319.81 due 01/03/23. Ameren Illinois provides the following 13-month usage comparison:

On 01/16/23, Ameren Illinois issued a bill statement for $396.55 due 02/06/23. Ameren Illinois provides the following 13-month usage comparison:

On 01/19/23, Mr. ******* contacted Ameren Illinois Customer Care about his bill increasing $100. The representative advised Mr. ******* of the current supply rate and discussed the usage increase compared to last month. Mr. ******* stated he was going to contact the Better Business Bureau.

It is the position of Ameren Illinois that the bills reflect the actual usage consumed and are, therefore, accurate for the residential electric delivery and supply. Based on the actual electric meter readings at the premise, Mr. *******'s electric billing is in line with previous years and have been calculated correctly.

Ameren Illinois is only able to verify the readings on its meter and the operational accuracy of its meter, not the source of the usage.

Ameren Illinois understands the concerns and is pro-actively assisting customers with rising supply charges. Ameren Illinois would like to present options that might make the increase to be less of a burden to Mr. *******.

Budget Billing – equalize payments for utility service. Budget Billing is based upon the customer's average bill instead of the actual amount for each separate billing period. Based upon the current supply charges, Mr. ******* can enroll in Budget Billing Rollover Program which would start at $237.00.

Energy Efficiency – our residential customers can save money by implementing various energy efficiency solutions while providing discounts and incentives to increase comfort, manage usage and reduce costs, visit AmerenIllinoisSavings.com or call *************

      · Home Energy Assessments – We offer enhanced, energy-saving opportunities for qualified households through a free Home Energy Assessment

      · Incentives and Rebates on Energy-Efficiency Products

Mr. ******* can explore his electric supply options by visiting PlugInIllinois.org. The Ameren Illinois rate to compare is $0.11833 per kWh for 0-800 kilowatts and $0.09374 per kWh for greater than 800 kilowatts.

      Rising Power Prices

Inflation and supply constraints are driving higher power prices. Here is what you need to know.

      Why is this happening?

      · Supply and Demand – Inflation, the war in Ukraine, increased consumption, and the closure of coal-fired electric generation facilities have cause a shortage in energy available.

      · Energy shortages are driving wholesale power prices to record levels.

      How are power prices set?

      · The Illinois Power Agency (IPA) buys wholesale electricity for residential and small commercial customers who have not made the switch to an alternate supplier. Utilities like Ameren Illinois are required to fulfill the IPA's pricing contracts and deliver that power to customers.

      · A subcomponent of supply, the capacity charge, is paid to electricity generators to ensure that there is enough power available on days when demand is high (like on extremely hot days). Capacity prices are set according to an annual auction conducted by the federal grid operator – MISO.

      · Ameren Illinois does not profit from energy supply. The costs of energy supply are passed through directly to our customers, dollar-for-dollar.

How much more will the typical customer pay for power supply?

      · The typical Ameren Illinois residential customer will see a $626 annual increase on the power supply side of the bill, or an average of $52 or more per month throughout the year.

      · These additional supply charges will take effect in June.

How will this impact Budget Billing customers?

      · To lessen the year-round impact of the monthly amount you owe, we are making a special adjustment to account for the current rise in energy costs.

      · Your budget billing amount is reviewed three times a year and adjusted based on your energy usage and changes in energy costs. This special adjustment will take affect at your next scheduled review.

      · Your increase budget billing amount still helps to stabilize your costs over a 12-month period.

Ameren Illinois encourages Mr. ******* to contact local area churches and energy assistance agencies for possible help on paying the bill. The local agencies listed in the area are:

      ****** * *****
      *** * ******** *** ******** ** *****
      ****** ***** ********
      **** * **** ********* **********
      *** * ***** *** ******** ** *****

      Phone: ***** ********

Ameren Illinois also encourages Mr. ******* to visit the following websites for energy conservation:

      · AmerenIllinois.com

      · AmerenIllinoisSavings.com

      · Energysavers.gov

      · Energystar.gov

      · Keepwarm.Illinois.gov

Given the above, Ameren Illinois considers this issue to be resolved and the complaint closed.

      Thank you,

      Ameren Illinois

They over charge us for basic necessities. My Ameren bill has almost doubled and my usage is the same. No one else in this country got an increase in pay to be able to afford this increase except the shareholders in Ameren. I don’t think their increase is ethical, they are being a monopoly.

The people who work there are great. The company itself is heartless . I believe that they would put their grandmother in the street. I can't believe anyone could say anything nice about this company.

This is the worst customers service company I have ever had to deal with. I moved homes and a month after not living in the home, I received a bill for $650 because they "accidentally" didn't charge me for gas usage the entire time I lived in the home. Conveniently, the previous/following tenant and the landlord had NO issues being charged appropriately. During the 8 months of living in the home, Ameren visited my house twice. Both times, checking the meter while also sending a meter reading paper to fill out. After being on hold for hours, **************** was no help, offered no payment plan, offered no apology or explanation. The moment I have another opportunity to use a different energy provider at my current home, we will be switching ASAP. If you have any option to use another company, I HIGHLY recommend NOT using Ameren or any of their sister companies.

This is the worst customers service company that I believe that they have! These people will leave you on hold for hours, Im not just talking about one time, Im talking about every time you called your company! You would think that they would hire additional personnel so that they can service their clientele Making it easier to manage your account talk to your customer. This company not only bills on time but will cut you off with no problem if you dont pay! There is no other company that supplies electricity to our area. So they can do whatever they want they dont care whether or not you have other things that are more important than waiting on hold for three hours to speak with someone . I am going to personally write my governor and my congressman about your inability to hire personnel so that your profits wont be affected! Im so tired of businesses that make all their money off us and then throw us away like were a piece of dirt. This is the third time Ive been on the phone with amren and Ive had to wait at least 2 1/2 hours each time on hold to speak with someone! I am going to do everything I can to research other electrical companies for Ameren is the worst business iv ever dealt with!

On August 3, the transformer behind my house was struck by lightning. This caused an electric surge to my house and my ground wire was smoldering in my basement. My smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors started going off and my house filled with smoke. I was able to get out unharmed. After two weeks the claims adjuster came out so I could start work on fixing the basement since the firefighters had to take down walls. A new ground wire was installed and Ameren had to run a new line from the pole to my house as it was also affected by the lightning. That was on Aug. 22. The temporary line was supposed to be in my yard for a few days until they were able to come out and bury it. To date, Oct. 18, the line is still in my yard!!! For someone who just went through a traumatic event, this is scary to say the least!! I call almost weekly, and told a ticket was submitted.....someone will be out next week....someone will call you in two days! No one has been to my house and no one calls me back! They can't give me a supervisor name, nor can they try a supervisor more than once per policy. Everyone in this area is at a disadvantage because we do not have a choice for electric services. I need this fixed asap!

My Ameren bill has a monthly summary for usage that is not correct at all! I called a month ago and the rep was not able to figure it out either after about 45 minutes on the phone. I just told her I would call back another time. I call today 10/18/22 and got a rep on the phone. She started to explain and within the first couple of minutes the call drop and she did not call me back! I waiting a while then called back for another nice long hold for a rep. **** need more reps or less issues. My bill is broken up into several categories such as Cooling, ALWAYS ON, COOKING, Laundry, Other Appliances and etc. After reviewing each category I noticed Ameren has been bill customers FOR MORE THAN THEY ACTUALLY USE EACH MONTH! DOUBLE BILLING. There is an ALWAYS ON category which list personal computers, monitors, printers, stereos, and televisions. I understand the lights on some of those are always on but I don't have that problem because most of the things on that list is on a power cord which only gets turned on when I'm using them which is not everyday! I don't use my computer or printer everyday! AND I DO NOT HAVE A STEREO! So why does that ALWAYS ON AMOUNT CHANGES FROM MONTH TO MONTH. Shouldn't ALWAY ON (BUT NOT ON) BE THE SAME SINCE AMEREN IS SO SMART AND KNOW WHAT IS ALWAYS ON. The summary needs to be looked at by the ******** ************************** Reason being, isn't my Refrigerator ALWAYS ON! So why does Refrigerator have its own category. Wouldnt it fall under Other Appliances since there is a Cooking and Laundry category! We rarely use our microwave. Looks like they have mobile phones, vacuum cleaners, fans, hair dryers, and curling irons. We only have 1 small room with carpet that gets vacuumed twice a month and 1 small fan that is rarely ever on. I do not own any hair dryers or curling irons but am being billed $8 for last month, $32 August and $15 July. These bills are INCORRECT because how would Ameren know what I plug up each day. Make IT MAKE SENCE!

Ameren screws up, shuts power off early, then turns it on and tells me to call back to have it shut off upon completion of my move. I call Back few hours later to have it turn off and then they leave it on for 3 days, without me leaving there. Let it be know I had Paid my bill all the way up to the day I had Moved out. Which bill was the highest it ever was and they blamed it on politics. Then they charge me more money for the days I didnt Even live in the home. Ameren should be investigated for fraud
