I was approached by Top Tier Solar Solutions, to purchase solar panels for the house. I agreed to have them installed, and was told a roof inspection would be conducted to be sure my roof had enough life to make the installation feasible. The panels were installed in Dec/Jan 2023/24. The panels went into use in Feb 2024. I needed to sell my home and put it on the market. I have the home under contract and the buyer had a roofing inspection from a reputable roofing company whose details I can provide. The roofing report came back that the roof was the original roof, installed in 1992. The shingles are 3-tab 25-year shingles and are badly deteriorated. Per the roofer, all the granules are gone on the ridge vent shingles, and the asphalt is showing the fiberglass strands. The roof is 32 years old. Panels should never have been installed. I was told the roof was fine and acceptable to installing the solar panels. Quote from A Plus Roofing inspector: "In our expert opinion, we believe that the roof should have been replaced at minimum of two years ago, the roof has surpassed its expected life, there is little to no granule retention on the roof, and the shingles are torn and cracking."I have pictures of the roof but they are too large to upload with this complaint. They can be provided up request. I am requesting the panels be removed and a new roof should be installed. I have been paying for the panels for about 12 months. I cannot sell my house in its present condition. The panels should never have been installed and I was deceived by the Top Tier Solar Solutions. I no longer want to have any further relations with this company. I want a full refund of the entire amount of the solar panels as well.

We're sorry to receive this complaint as this is a valued customer of Top Tier and has been for almost a year and a half now. However, the details of this complaint and not related to Top Tier. At the time of sale, the representative completes a site survey and submits photos which are provided to an engineer. The engineer then completes an audit of the home and, if approves of the structure, provides an approved structural letter which deems the home suitable to install the panels on and allows us to move forward with the project. Further, at the time of install after the structural letter is approved, the installation crew ******* on the job site completes a roof check prior to installation. This includes analyzing the shingles and condition of the roof, while also being on the roof and feeling the quality of the roof. At that time, he felt that it was safe and completed the installation. As such, the roof did not present any signs of being damaged in any capacity almost two years ago when the system was installed, and thus is not Top Tier's responsibility to replace. If this customer needs the roof replaced, we are more than happy to do a lift and pull of the system at a discounted rate so that the roof can be repaired for the new homeowners. However, we reject any claim that the roof being damaged is of any fault of Top Tier or that there was any knowledge of the roof being in poor condition prior to the system being installed

      Customer Answer

      Date: 01/01/2025

I saw the response from Top Tier.  Top Tiers process of how they arrive at the conclusion that the roof is suitable for installation is their business and does not relieve them of responsibility for placing panels on a faulty, out of date roof. It is a 25 year shingle that was at least ******************************************* the fall/winter of 2023. I refer back to the professional opinion of A Plus Roofing,  and the quote from the A Plus Roofing inspector: "In our
expert opinion, we believe that the roof should have been replaced
at minimum of two years ago, the roof has surpassed its expected
life, there is little to no granule retention on the roof, and the
shingles are torn and cracking." I have pictures of the roof but they
are too large to upload with this complaint.  Again, the panels were installed less than 15 months ago in the fall/winter of 2023. Obviously greed and the desire for profit, not concern for the customer, drove Top Tier to install its panels on a faulty roof. Top Tier is responsible. I would be satisfied only if Top Tier replace the roof or remove the panels and cancel the sale and the debt.

      Business Response

      Date: 01/06/2025

As we stated in our previous response, Top Tier conducted a brief check of the roof prior to installation and the home was analyzed by the engineers who put together the system design. If there were pre-existing issues with the roof, the homeowner should have informed Top Tier of it as we could have offered to fix the roof as part of the solar system. Additionally, Top Tier cannot be held liable for pre-existing issues. While we're sorry for any frustration this customer may have encountered, Top Tier has completely upheld our standards with this customer and vehemently deny their claims that Top Tier "deceived" this customer in any regard. Top Tier is completely within our contractual obligation and have upheld all compliance standards in this project.

My name is ***** ******, and I am the owner of *****************************************************. We got signed up as a customer and marketing home in January 2024, with our solar system installed in March 2024. In signing up, we were told by the salesman ***** ********, and the *************** marketing director (whose first name was *****), that as a marketing home we would have the opportunity to get on closing calls with other customers to share our experiences, and be compensated $1,000 per call (customer incentive). The expectation was set that we may get on an average of 2-3 calls per month, give or take. The closing calls prospect weighed HEAVILY into our decision to sign up with top tier solar, and helped it make financial sense for my family. However, after almost a year of trying to work with their customer service and leadership to resolve this issue, we were made aware that they do not compensate closing calls as an incentive. We tried further to resolve the dispute, and the company stopped replying altogether.A salesman and the marketing director of the *************** lied to us directly about our expectations, leaving my family in a challenging financial position.

We're sorry to receive this complaint as Mr. ****** is a valued customer of Top Tier. We are absolutely honoring this promotion and are having one of our directors contact Mr. ****** directly to discuss the details of the marketing promotion and get it started. The representative who initially worked with Mr. ****** is no longer part of Top Tier so that is why Mr. ****** was not getting a response from them, which we apologize for. However, we have escalated this concern and will be in touch with Mr. ****** shortly to resolve this concern.

An employee has shown up to my property twice once without ringing the doorbell, where he just stood there until my fiancee asked how could she help via our door cam and he walked off. Tonight he shows up with an attitude asking if the homeowner was home i said how can i help and he walks off. Luckily i got the name of the company from his shirt. It is dark outside and isn't safe for anyone involved.

Installation (beginning from sale in May 2024) at my newly built home has been at a stalemate for months and remains incomplete. County panel certification passed Oct 9th. Marked Top Tier truck w/single tech arrived on Oct 10th for cosmetic masking of exposed conduit and wiring (from ground to 4th floor rooftop), but instead defaced property irreparably with spray paint and left without completing the job. A 5yr-old could do better. Detailed, timestamped photos (attached) were forwarded to account representative ***** ***** on Oct 11th, and both sales rep ******* *******) and manager ******** ******) on Oct 21st yet all contacts, dispatch team, and company management have all been completely unresponsive to date. ************** system approval was also granted Nov 5th, yet neither cutover nor introduction to managing the service itself (incl. LCD control panel) has occurred at my residence after repeated attempts to make contact. PDF summary of text message screenshots between me and company contacts will be attached to this complaint. The link below provides temporary access to download full-resolution, timestamped images of conversation screenshots and property damage (taken immediately after defacing occurred). ********************************************************* Top Tier has visibly destroyed my BRAND-NEW house. It is incomprehensible to me that a legitimate corporation would behave this badly. I am exhausting every possible means to resolve this situation short of legal action. That would be my last resort.

In early October my husband authorized a loan for solar panels with Top Tier and Cross ********** c/o ********************** using my information without my knowledge or consent. I contacted top tier and the loan company to cancel the loan and have the panels removed. They have yet to get back with me. The sales person convinced him to sign my initials to the loan document. I had no knowledge any of this until I came home from work and the panels were on the roof. All the paperwork and a loan for over $57,000 is in my name alone, except for a $3000 check that was given to my husband in his name. I have been calling and emailing Top Tier and the loan company. Every one I contact tells me someone else will contact me and no one has.

Top Tier takes claims of fraud extremely seriously and our General Counsel spoke with this customer directly upon receipt of this complaint. As we consider fraud a serious matter, we informed Mrs. ******** that if she wanted to pursue charges against her husband for fraud, Top Tier would assist in the purusit and file charges of our own for civil fraud. On this call, Mrs. ******** claimed that her husband was unaware of what he was doing. At this claim, we played for Mrs. ******** the 10 minute 15 second Welcome Call that her husband completed at the time of sale. During this call, Mr. ******** agreed and stated that his wife, ***** ********, was the one on the contract. Additionally, he verbally consented that he understood that the representative was NOT part of any government agency or utility company, and that there was a loan associated with the solar system as they chose to finance the system and not pay cash. Mrs. ******** listened to the entire call with our General Counsel and agreed that her husband sounded coherant and agreed to all stipulations as outlined on the call. After reiterating that her husband did authorize to move forward and that Top Tier would assist with pressing charges against Mr. ******** if she wanted to, Mrs. ******** then changed her tune against her claims in her complaint. Top Tier and our representative completely followed the guidelines within our sales practices and legal standards with this. We are not the loan company and do not have any control over the loan associated with this account. Further, Mrs. ******** was sent a copy of the contract at the time of sale to her email and was in communication multiple times prior to installation. Top Tier rejects any claims of wrongdoing with this customer.

This is my third complaint about Too Tier Solar and their lack of professionalism and support. I am almost two years into service and have had nothing but issues with my service. The solar panels that I was strong armed into purchasing should have never been offered due to trees, which I strictly forbid to cut and was noted in the initial purchase, but I was assured there wouldnt be any problems. Since then our panels were hooked up wrong three different times and as of this past early summer finally got hooked up correctly only to discover that they are producing at about 40-50% at best. I went from $230 a month for electricity to now $400 a month. I have called Top Tier multiple times and get told every time that a manager will call back which never happens. The only way to get someone on the phone is to leave a complaint here. I am completely disgusted with this company and solar in general not to mention I have never gotten the tax credit promised. This company is using strong arm sales tactics and making false promises to make a sale that they do not intend on maintaining or servicing. ****** is the manager assigned to my account and he has never called me once! They owe me a bunch of money for all I have paid into this garbage and they know it!! Its a scam!

We have been assisting this customer and working closely with them since their initial complaint. They were paid for a full year's estimated production loss in January 2024 in the amount of $989.44, which was documented in our last response. Since the last complaint, Top Tiers Director of Operations spent time investigating this system and contacted him on 6/12, and went and performed a site visit on 6/17. We then offered Mr. ****** a 6 panel addition back in September which he refused to move forward with. We have offered various ways to help add more production of the system through tree trimming and additional panels, both of which the customer refuses. We are unable to assist the customer if he is unwilling to cooperate with us. We have been more than accomdoating to this customer and vehmenently reject his claim that our business is a scam. If the customer would like to move forward with a panel addition we will offer 12 panels at no cost if the customer signs a release, otherwise our next production review will take place in August of 2025.

Were sorry to receive this complaint as this is a valued Top Tier cusotmer. However, much of the information contained in this complaint is inaccurate. This customer was installed on 6/29/24 and was activated on 8/28/24 with a smooth process to PTO from the utility company. Our first communication from the customer was on 9/24 stating his bill is not being reduced to his expectations and we explained that the bill he was calling about did not include a full month of production from the system yet. After that, we spoke with the customer 3 times (2 via phone, 1 via email) regarding this concern. On 11/4 he also mentioned that the closer offered him an additional incentive which is not documented anywhere in our records. The last communication was via email on 11/8 which we again explained that his system is meeting performance expectations as outlined in the contract he signed at the time of sale. We have told this customer that we will be analyzing his system at the one-year **** as the proposal/contract is built off of a years performance. As for now, it is meeting estimates as outlined in the contract signed by the customer and emailed to the customer on the day of sale.

I am rejecting this response because:

i  met with  ***** m my  top tier solar represenitive in june 2024. After looking at my  house and sending the address  in  was told my  house  was  perfect for solar. He then asked  for a copy  of  my  power bill $223 He then  told me they would create a system that  would completely eliminate my power bill and i would have extra power to sell back to the power company. He showed me a picture of my house with panels on his ipad and i asked him why cant i have  more panel i have a lot of open roof left, he replied i  wouldnt need them We set up the loan payment based on my  power bill  and money  i  would get back  for excess power$246He then asked me to  sign  and told me the next day they would be putting a power meter in my  house so i could view the panels output .June the installation went really well it was done in one day. The system went online the end of ********** Tier paid my  first months bill cause of the late startup I still received a full power bill in  september i called top tier  and i was told it was a partial month and thee  system would handle my  power needs.the next month  i called the power company  wondering why my  **** was still high . i was told by the power company  the solar system isnt close to covering the power needed. I then called TopTier this is when i was told i  sold a half system and it was working . they then sent me copys of  documents i never saw I was totally shocked I tried to contact my  ****** m  my sale agent,,No replyI  do rememebr him taking my  phone and showing me where i needed to sign . i totally wasnt aware of what was signed. Its nowhere close to what  the sale agent told me .I now have a power bill and a solar loan almost $400 a month.I would  have never agreed to this

Resolution  Top Tier Solar please fix  this  panel  system to cover my  power need  add panel  to the system

Ive included a copy  of the power bill and note  taken

On a recorded welcome call at the time of sale, this Mr. **** verbally confirmed and agreed to the size of the system and the number of kWh the system would produce. If he felt that there was a descripency as he claims that didnt align with his power needs, he had ample opportunity  at multiple points to bring up this concern. However, the system was built as outlined on the proposal to match the amount of power needed as listed on the power bill that Mr. **** provided at the time of sale. As such, that system was installed and is meeting production estimates as outlined in the proposal as stated previously. Again, we have told this customer that we will be analyzing his system at the one-year **** as the proposal/contract is built off of a years performance. The customer is welcome to buy additional panels at a discounted rate and we will gladly install them and include them to the system. However, there is nothing wrong with the system. Top Tier has upheld its contractual obligation to this customer and has been completely transparent with this customer throughout all of our dealings with them.

The lingo in the previous complaint s that your representatives are not soliciting only offering programs and thats why they ignore no soliciting signs is incredibly frustrating rude and annoying. I had a guy come and with having multiple signs up he knocked and rang the door ****. My adult daughter answered he asked for home owner she told him I was working she tried to tell him to leave.i got in the door bell camera answering him. Told him to leave. We had to tell him 3 times. This is infuriating because my home is my workplace. So on break I paid the favor back walked up to him while he was talking to a neighbor asked who he works for. He told me he didnt have to tell me. I asked how did it feel to be bothered while working because that is was he did to me and I was doing it right back. Yes I cussed him out. And went back to work. About an hour later another person with same vest came to knock and ditch and the first guy was on the side of my property. Do not make excuses for the complete crappy salesman. This is inappropriate ! signs at someones door need to respected. I would look up a company if something is left but trying to be pushy is not the way to go. Have your sales people do better and also I would never buy anything from this organization due to crappy sales tactics. Do better

We are extremely sorry to this customer for any inconvenience or frustration they may have endured because of our representatives. We value and respect the privacy of all homeowners and strive to ensure all of our company representatives demonstrate those same values while interacting with potential customers. It's disheartening to know that this homeowner felt disrespected by our representatives as that is never something that Top Tier would stand for. Further, we have input this specific neighborhood and this homeowner into our internal database to ensure that our representatives no longer visit that area. We again are very apologetic to this homeowner and promise that we have taken every precaution to avoid this type of situation in the future. We are dedicated to honoring this homeowner's request not to visit the area his home is located or the surrounding neighborhood.

My neighborhood has No Soliciting signs at the entrance to our development. This company sends people out door to door trying to sell solar products. I have told them twice to stay off my property and do not knock on my door. I even have a No Soliciting sign on my front door. They lie and say they're with Potomac ****** and ask for information about my electric bill. They also say I should have received an email to explain their presence. They made it sound like this email would be from **************. At this point, the next time they bang on my door, I'm calling the police to file official trespass and harassment charges. I have called the company twice now to complain. Many other homeowners here are also complaining.

      Business Response

      Date: 11/08/2024

We do apologize for any frustration. However, our sales representatives do not solicit or sell anything. They simply work to inform homeowners of the benefits of solar energy and provide them with more information if interested. Our representatives wear identifying clothing so if a homeowner is not interested in hearing from our representatives, they do not need to answer the door. Lastly, we do work with local utility companys to help homeowners with the transition to solar, get the systems connected, and ensure homeowners benefit from their programs. So we apologize for any confusion, however, our representative were just informing you that we do work hand-in-hand with the utility company. The intention is never to disrupt or cause any inconvenience for anyone and we apologize that you felt this way.

I am rejecting this response because:

My husband's work hours means he goes to bed early.  Every time you knock, it disturbs the entire household. YES, you ARE selling...that's what your company does.  So stop with the lies.

My next step is filing trespass and harassment charges with the police department.  I have a right to not want certain people on my property.

I also have a large sign on my door stating no knocking....for any reason but your **** must be illiterate because they still knock.

Your company has been told multiple times there is no soliciting/door to door knocking.  Yet you continue.

I have had top tier solar for over a year and have had unresolved issues. Every time I call them or email them they say they will get back to me and never do. They do not hold up on there end of the contact and will gas light you. Still havent received services I am paying for over a year. This company just wants to take your money and not fix any issues. In my opinion its a straight up scam.

Were sorry to receive this complaint as this is a valued Top Tier customer. However, this customers system has been on and producing since February 21, 2024. Top Tier has completely upheld its contractual obligation to this customer and ay delays that occurred to get to activation were on behalf of the utility company and were outside of Top Tiers control. The system is performing as was built and proposed in the contract. Further, we vehemently deny the claim that all we want to do is take your money and not fix any issues as there have been no existing issues with this customer prior to this complaint. However, as it pertains to the tree, we are more than happy to see if we can get it removed. The tree removal was offered as an incentive to this customer at the time of sale. Please email ******************************* with photos of the tree and we can review the photos and will give you a call.

I am rejecting this response because:

the system is not producing as offered. Because of the tree it is under producing.

I dont not want them to see if they can remove the tree

it is in my contact to remove it so I would like them to come and remove the tree as agreed upon.

Tree was not added on as an incentive, it was added on because with the tree, product would not work as quoted at 96%.

As stated in our previous response, please contact our main line at ************ to discuss the tree removal in further detail with one of our representatives, or you can email ******************************* as well. Additionally, however, while we are more than happy to address the tree issue, tree removal is not in the contract. In fact, no where in the contract does it state that Top Tier will remove the tree. We have attached a copy of the contract signed by this customer and nowhere in the contract does it explicitly state that Top Tier will remove the tree, and tree removal is not included in this contract as a guarantee of production in any way. However, because the tree removal was offered as an incentive to this customer, we will be more than happy to help address the issue and get the tree removed.
