On 5/23/24 a driver by the name of ****** booted my friend's car. I'm not complaining about the boot, I'm complaining about how ****** handled the situation. My fiancee went to talk with him and he was immediately dismissive and rude because we were slightly confused about why they were being booted. After some back and forth, and some choice words, things got very heated very fast and it was extremely unprofessional on his part. He tried to change the price of getting the boot off 3 times. At some point another guy came and was no help at all with trying to calm his partner down. Just seriously disappointing how companies like this can operate how they do.

      Business Response

We apologize for any misunderstanding but our driver tried to explain the situation to you guys. He even called our office and noted he asked for your name as well to make a report for the way he was being talked too and treated. We understand no one is usually happy when theyre vehicle is booted or towed but you didnt have the required parking permit displayed and our drivers were simply doing their job. Again we apologize for any inconvenience.

Wheel blockers towed my vehicle from my designated parking spot in the parking garage for the condo that own. My vehicle license plate make & model are registered with the **** They refused to return my vehicle, and charged me $350 to get my vehicle back. This is a scam. They are rude and unapologetic. This cant be legal. Im taking further action.

      Business Response

Unfortunately you did not have the required parking permit displayed on your vehicle. Those are HOA rules and requirements not ours. Per HOA rules all vehicles parked in the garage are required to have the pass displayed. Should you have any questions please contact your HOA or management company for further clarification. We apologize for any inconvenience but we were simply doing our job.

I recently had surgery so my daughter drove my car to her apartment following my procedure. She called me last night to say my car was towed. When she got the information from the leasing office this morning the tow company said it would cost $430. I called the tow company and politely asked to speak to someone in charge the man said I cannot speak to a manager when I asked why he hung up the phone. I have read multiple reviews something has to be done about companies like this.

      Business Response

      Date: 04/03/2024

Your vehicle was towed because you didnt have the required parking permit displayed. You could have parked in overflow or designated area that doesnt require parking permits to be displayed. The dispatcher wasnt rude he only explained the manager wasnt in and theres nothing he could do.

I am rejecting this response because:
Per my original message I did not park anywhere because I  just had surgery. The dispute is not whether my car was parked in the wrong spot the dispute is your company clearly does bad business. I tried hard to find a tow company locally with worst reviews and I could not. Charging $430 is ridiculous and unheard of. And the dispatcher did not tell me the manager wasnt available he told me I could not speak to a manager then hung up on me when I was very calm and polite. What do know is ****** Romans dont lie and every dog has his day God is watching and you will never win. And I will do my part to make sure your business gets the attention it deserves.

I parked my truck in a parking lot monitored by this organization because all of the free spots were filled and there was no other option. The parking lot was empty except for my truck. I went to a nearby store for less than 3 minutes and upon returning one of the employees of this company was putting a second boot on my truck. The only way out of this was to pay the absurd, extortionate fee of $200 when I was not preventing anyone from parking in this lot. I would've understood had there not been any available spaces or I had left it there for hours or longer. This is a targeted, predatory practice.

      Business Response

      Date: 03/22/2024

Unfortunately you were not authorized to park there regardless if the lot was empty or full. Signs are clearly posted stating the parking rules and fees and yet you still chose to park there. Going forward please respect others property and follow the parking rules to avoid your vehicle being booted or towed.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 03/25/2024

I am rejecting this response because: Per the attached ***************** ordinance referenced on the posted sign, this business is in violation of sec ***** 1d as my fine was $200. As such, I'm requesting a full reimbursement and should receive something for damages and the inconvenience of having to contact the BBB for this company to follow laws that they themselves posted on the sign.

      Business Response

      Date: 03/25/2024

Again you were illegally parked without authorization. The new city ordinance states all fees have to be posted on signage which it clearly is. Going forward please pay attention to those signs and follow the parking rules to avoid this type of situation. You were illegally parked and therefore WheelBlockers will not be issuing a refund for your parking error.

My name is ***************************** and I am a 5 year resident of ********* and a proud member of the *** School district. I am trying to address this matter appropriately and yield my concerns to the the BBB. The steps that I have taken so far was to contact the towing company and try to reduce the tow fee, to no avail. I am reaching out to you all to see what direction I can go to resolve this matter and stop this unethical practice that Wheel Blockers are practicing. I and many others around *********, are in need of your help; Wheel Blockers ********************************* (**********************************************************) is a predatory towing company robbing the citizens of *********. On 03/05/24 I visited my daughter who lives in Noda. I parked in the parking lot where she lives (*************** Loft and ****** parking lot). At approximately 9:24pm I was leaving the ***************/****** parking lot, when I went to where I parked my car, I realized my car had been towed. I immediately located the number to call and let them know that I actually had a pass that allowed me to park in the lot. They asked where the pass was and I told them it was in my car. They said they could not see it, and told them it was in the car and I could show them. When I arrived on the lot to retrieve my car they would not allow me in the lot to access my car to show them the pass. I asked them how much was the fee for the tow and they told me $350.00. I went on to share with them that I had a pass to park, they said it was not visible. Again, I was not allowed to show them the parking pass. I was told it would be $350.00 to get my car. I told the gentlemen that I did not have $350.00. I had just paid for tires for my car that day ($897.00). I again pleaded for him to be allowed to retrieve my car and show him the pass. The gentleman told me that he would not allow me to get my car out without paying, I would have to come close to the amount of $350.00, I told him that I could pay $100.00, that I did not have $350.00 to give him. He said that wasnt close enough. I again attempted to express to him that I had a pass, and that they could have only had my car for approximately 2 hours, at the most. I went on to ask what is the cost for a tow if my car was broken down and needed to be towed. He told me their tow rate is $350.00. I told him that the price was extreme. Considering the cost to tow and distance from where my car was towed from (6 mins away), the cost of $350 was extreme. I contacted CMPD because I wanted to know my rights, and if this was even legal. I expressed to the police my question, and they told me unfortunately this was a civil matter. I was in a state of duress because I did not have the $350.00, I live in Concord and had to go to work the next day, so against my desire to put this fee on a high interest credit card I had to charge the entire $350.00 fee to get my car. The practices of this business should be investigated. I am not attempting to speak against anyone wanting to run a business, however the excessive fee to retrieve your own property back is not right. This was a big dent in my finances as a single income household. I am also thinking of others that *** not have access to a credit card, or those that are truly just making it. If they don't pay this astronomical fee, there are additional storage fees added daily, and evenly the Wheeler ***************************************** has a car they can claim ownership to and sell. Although, in my opinion, should have been able to show the pass and retrieve my car. Understanding the busy aspect of the tow company, I understand and would have been agreeable to pay something. I would have understood if I had a fee of $150.00 (which was still high considering the presence of the pass in my car), but $350.00 is outrageous. Please help me, I plan to reach out to Wheel Blocker to request a refund of my $350.00, or an adjustment to a much lower fee. I am not sure what BBB can do. I am attaching a a tik tok video. Something needs to be done, whatever you can do to stop their practices would be beneficial for others, even if I cannot retrieve my money back. ***************************************************************

Unfortunately the parking policy is set in place and we dont make the rules. Every vehicle inside the gate is parking for residents only with a required window decal being displayed which you did not have that resulted in your vehicle being towed. Again signs are posted stating the parking rules per city ordinance and the resident you were visiting should know the parking rules as well for their complex. We apologize for any inconvenience but again you were in violation for not having the required parking permit displayed.

I have 4 cars below to all ours family members which fit in my driveway only 2 and the others 2 parked outside front yard of house in the street no blocking anything because they in front of my house and they came 5 times in the period of two months and booted our cars plus ask for cash money and being racism about it and act sarcastic with the situation feeling powerful and demanding because our nationality and taking advantage of the situation, funny part is that they come at late night time so they booted the cars them treated us with high pay fine for tow penalties basically the robbery us and no only that our neighbors have the same problems

There is no exact time when our trucks come. Your HOA rules state there is no street parking in your by laws and we cant control that. We have never been racist to anyone as we are very welcoming at our company and have different ethnicities employed. The fees are posted on towing signage in your community. Please follow the parking rules that are again set in place by your HOA and management company to avoid this situation.

While working as an independent contractor for the business across the street, I parked in an apartment complex to be able to load my gear out heavy equipment that needs to be put into my vehicle. IWhile working as an independent contractor for the business across the street, I parked in an apartment complex to be able to load my gear out heavy equipment that needs to be put into my vehicle. I parked it in an apartment complex across the street because there was no street parking available and theres no loading zone available to park in either. I was not parked in this parking lot for more than five minutes. There is no possible way I was there more than five minutes and somehow in that amount of time a person was called and arrive and booted my car. I found the person booting my car there I saw them pull in. He had been there two minutes, I was charged $200 remove the boot. This is all the money I earned working on Contractor at the business cross street. I was not doing anything wrong and I was simply trying to work and make money for my family and Ive been robbed of that money, because I was parked in a parking space for three minutes I find this absurd and inhumane.

      Business Response

You were booted because as you stated you were across the street at another business and not authorized to park there. Unfortunately you chose to park there illegally knowing you were elsewhere . Signs are posted stating unauthorized vehicles will be booted or towed. Please pay attention to those signs and follow the parking rules to avoid this situation.

On the night of 2/15/2024 I was a patron at the local bar called **** *********. I parked in the lot located in from of the bar. When asked I was told that I would be ok to park in the spot that I was parked. I was in the bar about ************************************************************************************************************** front of the building. When I arrived to my car the tow truck was not connected to my car so I decided to get in my car to move it, that's when the truck backed up to my car and hooked his tow hitch to the front of my car lifting it in the air while I was in the car. The rude operator who would not give me his name told me that I would have to pay him ****** for him to drop my car or it would cost me ******* at the tow yard to get my car back. When I told him that I didn't have that amount of money he lifted my car higher in the air. After doing research on the pricing for tows and drops from tow truck in mecklenburg county as well as the *********** I found that I was over charged to this action. Article VII - Regulation of non-consensual section ******. towing and storage fees. The maximum fee that *** be charged for non-consensual towing of motor vehicles ad for the storage thereof are as follows: (1) For non-consensual towing of a motor vehicle, the maximum fee shall be one hundred fifty dollars (150.00);Sec. ****** Rights of owner to Remove Vehicle. If the owner of a motor vehicle is present and willing to immediately remove the vehicle before it is removed by a tow vehicle operator, the offending vehicle shall not be towed and the tow vehicle shall take no further action to attach to or otherwise prepare to tow the vehicle. I was scammed out of my money and I am requesting a full refund of the amount paid because the tow operator prevented me from moving my car while he connected his tow hitch to my car.

      Business Response

      Date: 02/17/2024

You were parked on private property without authorization. Signs are clearly posted per city ordinance stating Towing Enforced with the fees included. Whoever informed you it was ok to park there misled you as no one can give you permission to park on someone elses property, again reason for the towing signs. Your vehicle was booted first until the tow truck arrived and hooked up. You were charged the correct fee, again its posted on *********** throughout that property. Unfortunately WheelBlockers will not be issuing a refund for your illegal parking.

My car was booted at my apartment complex because I forgot to hang my tag. I called Wheel Blockers to explain and they offered a $50 discount ($200-$150) if I could show proof of the tag. The ticket I received cited "Illegal Parking" as the reason it was booted. The representative who I called to have someone come out refused to answer my questions, so I opted to speak with the person who came out. My question was just to clarify in this circumstance: What law is being broken? I completely understand why the boot was placed in the first place, but upon proving my car was in fact legally allowed to park there, there should have been no charge. I asked the technician to clarify what law was broken, and whether it was the absence of the pass that violated the law, which would justify the charge, and if I needed to dispute it with them or the apartment complex. He was unable and/or unwilling to explain to me, did not say whether he knew the answer and claimed I was being too technical and he had places to be and I was wasting his time. His tone became very hostile and he had my credit card in his hand from the time he parked, even becoming so flustered he threw my card across the parking lot. I ended up signing for the charge because I needed my card and felt lost for other options to get my car back. I am really upset I didn't record the situation but believe I was in view of the apartment cameras. This is all to explain why I paid for it although I did not agree that I should be charged and would have withheld if I felt able. The tense situation aside, I would just like to know what law was broken. Again, my car is legally allowed to park there but I did not have proof at the time of booting. Upon proving I was allowed to park there- what is the crime? If that can be answered, no further action is needed. If not, I am seeking reimbursement.

      Business Response

      Date: 01/16/2024

The policy is the pass has to be displayed at all times. That is the process or it would defeat the whole purpose of having to have a pass. Unfortunately when yours wasnt displayed we had no idea if your vehicle was valid and it was in violation resulting in the boot. Please make sure the pass is always displayed going forward to prevent this situation.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 01/17/2024

I am rejecting this response because:
This does not answer my question. As stated, I understand why it was booted in the first place but upon providing evidence of legal parking, the claim of illegal parking should have been null and void. Please state clearly and with reference to the city ordinance whether the absence of the pass is a violation of the law or an unauthorized vehicle is the violation.

Although I am questioning the legitimacy of their reason to charge a boot fee at all, if it is deemed that the absence of the pass is in fact the violation of the law and the charge stands, Ordinance #****, which is cited on your sign, states in Sec ***** that "The fee for booting a vehicle shall not exceed $50." Reference: *********************************************************************************** I was charged $200 and given a $50 discount. Please explain this as well.

      Business Response

      Date: 01/18/2024

Again that would defeat the purpose of even having parking passes and having to display them and there would be no way of know what vehicle should or shouldnt be parked there. You may have showed a pass but it was after the fact and at the time you were booted you were in violation of not having the pass displayed.
