On Tuesday May 30th, my car was booted. The man was sitting on a chair on the side of the road and he was watching me the entire time. He was on the phone when I came back that the young girl was back. He refused to give me his name or a phone number and it took me 5 minutes to make him give me a receipt. He only took cash, which Ive been booted before and was able to pay with card. Only 2 of the 6 cars had been booted around me. There was a sign but it was damaged and you could not see it said no parking, which should have been fixed before booting or towing occurred. He said the tow truck was going to come and I could speak to them, it never did. He tried to give me a deal saying if i paid him it would be less than waiting for the other guy to show up, which does not make any sense what so ever. He pocketed the money. Before I paid him I asked if I could give him half and he could take the boot off and Id give him the rest. He said it was already off but I wasnt near my car so I told him I was going to go look. I was on the passenger side door so there was no way for me to drive off without paying and he starting screaming at me and chasing me (I was walking) to pay him and to give him the money. I am a younger girl and was so afraid he was going to hurt me so I did and drove off. I am confident that this was a scam or that this man would have used force if I tried to call the police. I felt very unsafe and he was rude and demeaning. This company should be shut down and fined for how dangerous their employees are. I saw another review saying one of the employees pointed a pistol at someone for asking questions. At the very least they need to fix the sign because it is not obvious that you cannot park there. I will be taking legal action if not refunded.

Im so sorry that this happened to you but it does sound like you have been scammed. Im not sure what parking lot this happened on but all of our properties have correct signage with all company info. Saying they only take cash is not how we operate because you always have an option to pay by card also.  I wish you would have called the police or try to call our number at the time if you felt uncomfortable. Again this doesnt sound like our company so I would try going back to the location to see if someone is there again and try calling the police to report it. Im sorry you had to encounter this unfortunate situation.

Health-related portion: These employees led me to have an anxiety attack. I couldn't breathe, threw up in their parking lot, and almost crashed on my way home due to lack of oxygen. On Weds 5/24/23 at 7:20pm, my car was towed from an area that does not have signs every 50 ft., per our countys ordinance. I asked for permission to park in the spot I parked as a customer of Skiptown, and was told I could park in the spot by an employee on the clock. When I returned, my car was gone. I asked the two present Wheelblockers employees to show me where the tow signs were. They said everywhere, but, I took a video, and there is not one in eyesight of my car (which I had permission to park there anyways). I contacted the towing company by phone at that point, and I was told to call back in the morning for a manager, and was hung up on. I ******d an address and found my car, which they said would cost $350 to get. I had a panic attack and asked for a manager again, but was told he doesnt come in until the morning, so I left.I called back in the morning and the employee laughed & hung up on me. I have now been hung up on 4x when asking to talk to a manager or gain info about my car/this situation. I have videos of my parking spot, which I asked to email to the manager, but employees refused to provide an email. During my final attempt to ask for a manager email/number, etc, I was told to ****** it, then hung up on again. When I ******d, the website for the company didnt work, and no email is listed. I am uncomfortable going into the business to talk to the manager in person due to claims of an employee threatening people with a gun. I called off work to resolve this this morning, but have had no success reaching anyone helpful. Their behavior has been predatory, unsafe, and misogynistic. I also tried to get ahold of the company that owns the property (******) with no avail, as ****** says the business dissolved. Also, the wrong date is on the receipt for $350.

      Business Response

      Date: 06/02/2023

Unfortunately signs are clearly posted at each entrance per city ordinance and well as signage throughout the property stating who parking is for. How can someone of another business property tell you its ok to park on someone elses property not affiliated with theres. That is who your complaint should be with for giving you misleading information. We have no control over your health issues for your illegally parking. Were sorry you became ill as you said but that was on your choosing to park in a lot you were not authorized too. You should contact the person who told you it was ok to park on someone elses property without authorization and have them pay your tow fee because unfortunately WheelBlockers will not be issuing a refund for your illegal parking.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 06/02/2023

While I appreciate the business's reply and their persuasive (albeit grammatically incorrect/undermining) response, they fail to directly address pertinent city ordinances at hand (outlined again below).
      1. Lt. ******** with the ***** has verified that my vehicle was not reported as being called in before I retrieved it. Thus, the tow of my car lacked lawful authority; 2. While the manager references entrance signage, there is an absence of postings within the unobstructed grassy area in the middle of the lot, contrary to the following municipal provision: "If there are no curb or access barriers, notices shall be posted not less than every 50 ft. facing the frontage of the public street and facing the private parking lot"; 3. The sign verbiage is inaccurate, as "******" has either dissolved or undergone a name change. Also, it fails to specify who the "customers" are, and thus, are not as "clear" as the response reads; 4. Throughout my attempts to address this matter amicably, I was repeatedly hung up on (four occurrences over multiple days) and even insultingly laughed at when I asked for a manager. Subsequently, a female acquaintance called on my behalf and face the same discourteous response (hung up 2x). Interestingly, when a male colleague contacted the business and spoke to the same employee, he expeditiously received contact details for a manager within 30 sec. with no pushback. This discriminatory conduct has been voice-recorded and reflects an overt display of sexism, at minimum; 5. Generally, businesses have a duty to provide a reasonably safe environment for their customers. If a business's actions directly contribute to a panic attack(as in this case), there are grounds for holding the business legally liable in the state of **.

I am still willing to close this case with a simple refund. If that is not an option, I will continue to pursue this in civil court, with *****, NCDOJ, BBB, and so forth.

They booted my car at a closed business, after hours, while looking at me in the eyes as I was opening the door to my car that I unlocked. It was, at best, a terrible business practice that should be punished. They didn't boot the car next to me that was parked in the same lot at the same time. The only difference was that the owner of the vehicle wasn't heading into the car like I was. If that car didn't get towed or booted, my car absolutely should not have been.

Signs are clearly posted stating the parking rules and fees per city ordinance. Regardless if the business was closed or not you were not authorized to park there. Going forward please pay attention to the Towing signs and respect others property. Unfortunately you were illegally parked and therefore WheelBlockers will not be issuing a refund.

I parked in a nearby parking lot on Saturday, April 22, 2023 to go to a local record store for Record Store Day. I did not recall seeing a sign about parking lot enforcement. There were hundreds of people in line to get into the record store, so I was there nearly two hours. When I returned to the parking lot, there was a lock on my car's front tire placed there by Wheel Blockers Towing and Parking Enforcement. There were locks on at least **** other vehicles in this lot, and they all seemed to have been people going to the record store, whose small lot couldn't accommodate the number of people who turned out for Record Store Day. There were two Wheel Blockers Towing trucks and at least three employees charging each of us $225 to have the locks taken off our cars' tires. As I said, I don't recall seeing any type of notice about parking lot enforcement, and a nearby business didn't appear to be open. I wouldn't have parked there if 1.) there had been a sign, and 2.) that particular business had been open. I truly feel this was predatory behavior by Wheel Blockers Towing to target those of us trying to support a local record store on what has become a very big day for them sales-wise over the past several years. Plus, the $225 were each charged seems egregious. The receipt says the reason for immobilization was illegal parking. Again, I can't recall a sign saying otherwise and, as I've previously stated, to target so many people with fines that seem way too steep just really seems like predatory behavior by this company.

Unfortunately where you were parked at is not parking for the record store. It is private property and parking for their business only. Signs are clearly posted at each entrance per city ordinance stating the rules and fees. We apologize for any inconvenience but going forward please park only where your patronizing and respect others property for their customers.

Went into the businesses where I parked and walked with my dog after and got booted. Nothing on the ticket and no info given. When I called they put me on hold and then hung up on me. I called again asking to get my boot off and they put me on hold or hang up on me every time with my dog. The phone number they gave is a cell phone number and couldnt let me talk to anyone else. My car is still booted with no answers.

If you can please let us know where you were parked at as we service multiple properties. Signs are clearly posted stating the parking rules and fees. You mentioned your boot is still on the vehicle. Were not aware of any boots out at this time that we havent taken care of. Again if you parked on private property you cant leave your vehicle and go elsewhere.

I was first overcharged for a boot that was on my car. I was told $200, then $250, and they settled on $225. After speaking with a lawyer, I realized I should have not been charged more than $50, due to a city ordinance. My bigger issue is that I disputed this amount with my credit card company, and I specifically refused to sign the receipt because it said that I agreed to the terms. I did NOT agree. However, I was given the receipt by my credit card company and theres a FORGED signature on the receipt that looks NOTHING like my signature. I am highly upset and have had my rights violated.

Per city ordinance as well as posted on *********** where you were illegally parked the tow and booted fees are listed. Your attorney you spoke with doesnt know the towing ordinance very well and should read up on the fees. The $50 boot fee is the old ordinance that expired years ago. The $250 you were supposed to pay as the tow truck was there on site. Our dispatcher gave you a courtesy discount to $225. You keep mentioning $200 so we can honor that but that is all as again you were illegally parked resulting in your vehicle being booted/towed. All fees are stated on *********** as you were charged the correct fee.

Saturday night after having some drinks at Craft in ******** we decided to be responsible adults and uber home and get our car first thing in the morning. Our car was towed, which is fine. Rules ARE RULES. However, when we went to Wheel Blockers (address here is incorrect they are now located on ***** St, same phone number). The gentleman there charged us $350 for our car. That seemed like a lot and so, I called back the following day asking how much it is normally cost to have your car towed there and be there overnight. ************ told me "about $300" then hung up on me. This seems like discrimination and uncharging based on type of a car that someone has.

Signs are clearly posted throughout the parking lot with the fees and and the correct address to retrieve your vehicle if its been towed. Not sure what address youre referring to because the address is stated on ***********. Your fee was standard $350.00 because the vehicle was booted first and then dollied.

On 1/11/23 at approximately 5:30p.m., I discovered Wheelblockers illegally towed my vehicle from my apartment complex on 1/9/23. They withheld information about the tow and access to my vehicle until I paid $465. The business has not provided documentation proving my vehicle was in violation of the tow policy (i.e. pictures). I also have video showing my decal was visible from the driver and passenger side of the vehicle (which is in line with the policy my complex has provided me) which I obtained when I picked up the vehicle. In addition they are unable to provide a breakdown of the contracted rates they have with my apartment complex to support the amount I was charged had the tow been valid. I was required to sign a form in order to gain access to my vehicle. I made notes and signed it in order to not incur any additional charges and because I needed my vehicle for a business trip the following day. They have used the form to deny my dispute with my credit card company. Im requesting the BBBs involvement in order to help get a refund for the predatory and illegal towing of my vehicle.

      Business Response

      Date: 01/31/2023

Unfortunately you did not have a pass visibly displayed at the time of tow. You never once mentioned that at the time of pickup or made a note about the pass being visible. The only thing we mentioned was a $35.00 storage fee you felt was an extra day and you noted you would call our office the next day to discuss it. We have no problem refunding you a courtesy $35.00 storage fee but as far as everything else you did not have a pass displayed and you were illegally parked. If you would like to contact our office as you originally stated we will be more than happy to try and rectify this situation with you.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 01/31/2023

I am rejecting this response because:
My pass was visible from both the driver and passenger side windows. It was 9pm when I got to my vehicle. As soon as I opened my driver side door. I saw the decal and pointed it out to the person who granted me access to the vehicle. I also began recording a video of it on my cell phone. Im not sure how my car was towed from a tight corner spot without anyone ever going to either side of the vehicle. Wheelblockers has been uncooperative since my initial contact. I never stated I would call again the next day, after already speaking to them on at least 4 separate occasions on 1/11.
Prior to payment, the person on the phone could not tell me how many days I was being charged. I was only told there was paperwork on the car. I asked if he could get it before payment and was told no. I paid and then saw the note on my car indicating it was towed on 1/9. After doing my own calculations, I noticed I was overcharged. I called the individual back about 30 minutes later for the 4th time that evening. First to locate my car. Again, because no one was there when I arrived. Third, to confirm the price b/c the person at the tow lot quoted me a different amount than the person on the phone. And lastly, when I saw that the reason he couldnt give me a breakdown is because he was adding an extra day when my car shouldve never been towed. I was then told the driver wrote the wrong day on the paperwork and I was not going to be refunded because it was correct.
I never stated I would call on another day as it was clear I was being scammed and Wheelblockers was being uncooperative. I have since been in contact with my apartment complex to get proof my car was illegally parked (because it was not). I feel the only way we can try to rectify this issue is via the BBB. I dont see an option to upload video files and Im still waiting on images that I was illegally parked.

Your pass was not visible and again you never mentioned having a pass. The only issue you mentioned was for an extra storage day at $35.00. You even wrote yourself and initialed that you would call the next day and you never did. Again if you would like to discuss the matter further please call our office like you stated and well be more than happy to try and help you.

On 1/21/23 I parked in a parking lot in front of ******* antiques Rampart st after hours the sign did not state that there would booting or towing. No one wouldve also called to enforce the booting or towing because the business was closed for the evening. My understanding of the law is that these two things are required to boot someones car. The employees were not disrespectful in any way. However, the boot was not lawful. I would like a refund because the booting was predatory regardless. I was not blocking traffic and the business was closed. There wouldve been no reason to enforce anything.

      Business Response

Parking is for customers or employees only. Signs are at each entrance and throughout the property stating that and that is at all times regardless if the businesses are open or closed. Unfortunately you were illegally parked and therefore WheelBlockers is unable to issue refund. We apologize for any inconvenience
