Underpaid my claims. Policy Number XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX -- Manager JESSICA hung up the phone in my ear when I was trying to work with her going through my claims one by one. This company is a scam! Avoid them! Paid less than $XXX out of over $XX,XXX. Recommend you stay away! Dangerous! Scam! Careless!Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

Customer Service needs training. I was quoted a price for two people. They required immediate payment, so I used a credit card. They told me there was a $3 fee but that after I enrolled, I could immediately call customer service and have it changed to come out of my financial institution after the first payment.
I made the call, was assured that it had been changed - and then started getting billed on my credit card - even though they also were paid by e-check.
They are refusing to refund me for the three months of overbilling, even after I explained that I had spoken to a representative and that they were receiving e-checks for the past few month..
Very poor customer service!
There were no supervisors available (6 of them ), so they transferred me to a "lead" person, who took the routing information over the phone and hopefully fixed the issue.
I can only hope that the payments to the dentist are what they say they will pay.
If they continue to overbill, I will be cancelling this policyPhysicians Mutual Insurance Company

Thank you for your feedback and allowing us an opportunity to explain. The quote for monthly dental premiums assumes the payments are submitted via recurring automatic bank withdrawal from a checking or savings account. We do allow the flexibility of making recurring payments by credit or debit card and/or manually making the payment each month. However, there is a $3 fee for each payment in those scenarios.
If our premium records do not match yours, the team lead you spoke with will look into it. If there is a discrepancy, simply send us copies of your statements if we request them so we can reconcile this for you.
Please give us a call if there are any other outstanding questions or concerns.Review fromBrenda H

They don't listen and lie about the response to your request, one will tell you it has been done and mailed and the next one will tell you they will submit your request that is has not been submitted. One will tell you that you can see documents requested in Your Documents, the next will tell you that you cannot see these in Your Documents. I started November 14 with my request and I have called repeatedly and have not yet gotten anything except bill. I told them I would not pay anything more until I got what I requested, but instead I get a letter stating per my request they have changed my billing from automated to paper bill sent to me, I did no such thing. In previous years I have requested a statement of the premiums I have paid for the 12 months of the year and have received but this years has been totally exhausting, no one should have to fight so hare and be lied to time and time again. I have not yet gotten the same story, one contradicts the other, I wish someone would listen to me to provide the information I have requested. The last person I spoke with said someone would call me but I am doubtful this will happen.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

Not sure why I can't access my policy documents on-line. Not sure why "always" have long telephone hold times. Not sure why I have to provide my policy number multiple times to get a simple question answered. I do know that it is imperative that I make contact with PM in advance of each pending medical service to be certain said service is indeed covered (less an ambiguous policy limitation be cited).Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

I tried changing my medigap plan with Physicians Mutual.
I was using the new Maryland Medicare Birthday Rule that went into affect on July 1, 2023. The rule states that you can change your coverage on your birthday and 30 days after, with no underwriting.
Sounds great. It seems like these insurance companies always come up with a work around to counter the rule.
I talked to the company agent, he immediately sent me to the website to fill out the application. Filled out the application and after 1 1/2 weeks we heard nothing. No email confirmation, information, nor update. Called customer service and they had no information on the application.
I receive more information when I buy a pair of socks on Amazon. Emails, order information and updates.
Here you are putting a large portion of your healthcare in their hands and you receive silence. No confirmation email, nothing at all. You are in limbo.
I called SHIP, they seem useless too.
Needless to say we withdrew our application. 0 stars stay away
These companies seem to think that seniors are idiots, with no technology skills.
Good luck with your endeavor with this company. They promise you the moon, but give you the shaft.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

My mother the Policy holder purchased Term Life and was current on premium payments passed on 8/19/23. PM (Physician Mutual) required me to submit a Death Certificate, Copy of my ID, Obituary, and a hand written letter with policy number , Mom's name and DOB and date of passing, my contact info. I mailed this on 9/6/23. After two weeks I called and PM said that they had confirmed that the claim was accepted. I called a few days later to be told they issued a check on 9/29/23. On 10/12/23 I called to tell them I hadn't received anything. I was to by PM to wait 14 business days. I waited and called on the 10/19/23. I was told they would cancel the check and reissue the payment. I called on 10/25/23 and was told that nothing had been done and that they would make it priority to process the payment that day. I received a letter to confirm my address that requires my signature today. I called and they said that they would process payment after they received the letter. And that I should fax it for faster service. Which I have. I have incurred funeral costs and such, including a payment to PM prior to them receiving the Death Certificate. This has caused extreme hardship for my family. Another policy with Mutual of Omaha paid from just a phone call and 3 days later I received a check. PM had no problem to require prompt payment for premium, but refuse to make prompt action on their obligations.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

They were really good about making sure they got their automatic premium payments billed to a credit card every month without fail.... And they paid off almost $100 for cleaning and x-rays, which was less than half what my dentist's fees were.... But it when it came time to pay for crowns they made me wait a year, and only approved payment for two crowns at $504 each.... These crowns cost over $1,700 each..... I am still fighting with them over payment for the other two crowns. I filled a full complaint with my state insurance commissioner's office, they were quite sympathetic but suggested I hire an attorney, as they didn't have the power to force them to pay for the dental work. I can say that all the customer service agents of physicians mutual dental insurance division were polite, even if they did nothing to help me. I canceled the policy, and plan to have nothing further to do with this company for any of the types of insurance that they sell, and I would recommend anyone considering dental insurance with this company, not to purchase it! Getting this insurance company to pay off on claims, is like trying to squeeze blood out of a stone!Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

On 7/21/23, I left a quite negative review about Physicians Mutual Dental Insurance.
I would like to withdraw (or, at least, modify) that review because it seems that the coverage is better than I had expected. While I still have some reservations (I've only had the policy, now, for about eight months), my earlier review was unfair.
So, for now, I will rate Physicians Mutual at, say, 3 1/2, bordering on four stars.
Thank you.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

On March 16 of 2023 I received a call from Physican's Mutual soliciting my business to switch our Pet Insurance. I have had a policy for our 12 year old dog for over a decade and the premiums had been creeping up. The coverage seemed very similar and the premiums were more affordable. I SPECIFICALLY asked about any lapse in coverage and how long I should maintain our current coverage to avoid any gaps should something happen. I was assured that all would be well if I maintained our current policy for 2 days while everything processed. No mention was made of a SIX MONTH waiting period for orthopedic services. I would NEVER have made the switch considering the age our our dog.
In May 2023 our dog suffered a significant back injury and the costs were quite high, but I was not concerned because we had coverage. EVERY SINGLE CLAIM was denied due to the waiting period. I realize I have no recourse because I am sure this is in the fine print. However, when I asked a very specific and direct question and was given specific and direct assurances in response I believe this company is unethical and does not operate in good faith. I feel this is a classic bait and switch - telling the customer whatever it takes to get the sale. Buyer beware and I was too trusting. When I called with my concerns and bewilderment - I was told there was no way to verify my conversation with their sales person and I could be making the whole thing up - essentially calling me a liar. Not a business I recommend to anyone for anything. Again, buyer beware.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

We’re sorry to hear your pet was injured, and we hope he is recovering. Physicians Mutual understands the importance of transparency and provides customers a 31-day period to review coverage and cancel with a full premium refund if the plan is not the right fit. Upon policy issue, we immediately send a policy with a schedule of benefits. This schedule of benefits displays your policy number, policy effective date, pet’s name, pet’s age, etc. The schedule distinctly shows the coverage options selected and provides in a summary format the exact date of eligibility for Injury, Illness and Orthopedic benefits. Also, our policy provides an option for an orthopedic waiver to waive the waiting period, as described in the policy and during the sales process. Please give us a call if you would like to review any of this information or have other questions.Review fromCarol P

I was the biggest cheerleader for Physicians Mutual. I had Medicare supplemental, vision and dental. They were wonderful. The people were wonderful. But something changed over recent years. For the last 2 years, all I've had are problems with their claims department regarding dental and vision. My claim checks always come promptly but the amount is always wrong. I have a rollover policy but they treat me as if I just signed up, which affects the reimbursement amount. I also call them in advance to verify the amount and let them know a claim is coming. Total waste of time. Now I have to wait for someone to call me back within 48 hours. If I'm not by phone, too bad. More phone tag. You used to be fantastic. What happened?Physicians Mutual Insurance Company
