1 starI wish I had checked these reviews before I got in line. I had a plumbing issue they left a 4x2ft hole in my ceiling and said patching the hole wasn't covered....Review fromRAYMOND F

1 starThis company goes by different names: Home Warranty of America, Choice Home Warranty, or *********************. Avoid them all! Our air conditioner stopped operating on July 11, 2022. I called HWA (Home Warranty of America) on July 12, and made a claim. They said they had dispatched a repair service for July 15. They never arrived. The claim was reassigned. This was the beginning of a parade of service companies being assigned and then replaced for various reasons. They all recommended replacement of the air conditioning system. The high temperatures in the ************** area exceeded 100 degrees on a daily basis. The heat wave lasted for over three weeks.I called HWA on a daily basis, trying to get someone to replace or repair our air conditioner. I made over 88 calls. I could not talk to a supervisor or be connected to one because they all work for Choice Home Warranty Company. Finally, after threatening them with law suits involving elder abuse, and after filing a complaint with the *************** Commissioner, they agreed to pay $2330.00 and allow me to have my contractor install a new air conditioner. The new air conditioner was finally installed on September 2!We received payment for the air conditioner on October 12.Avoid these companies at all costs!!!!Review fromCrista S

1 starIf I could give a ZERO star rating I would!!! Got this warranty as I purchased my new and first home 12/2021. Never had anything happen or need for their services until recently. I filed my claim on 10/19/2022 for pluming issues, it was picked up by a tech the following day, but the kicker was, my service appointment was over a week out. So I asked HWA if any other techs were available in my area, which they stated no. I even asked if they could extend the radius for other techs a little further out. They would not oblige as a tech already had confirmed. So they day of my service appointment I contacted the plumbing company directly to ask how they would be taking my $100 service fee, only for them to tell me "We don't have your name or address on our schedule for today." I was told to contact *** back, I do so and they keep me on the line as they reach out to the plumbing company. Only to find out that the company dissolved all ties with *** because of poor service. SO that put me back in the line of waiting on finding a tech. As of today 11/1/2022, they still have not found a tech. They claimed they have extended the radius for the search, but couldn't tell me how far. I asked to file a complaint, they claim that as representatives they document all information, so basically no actual or formal complaint system. I ask to speak to a supervisor and they say someone will contact me back in 24hrs. I inquired if I don't get a call what's the next step, they say they will submit a request again. Meaning no guarantee of receiving a call. Every time I called I was met with attitude, being spoken over, and even rushed off the phone, because there was nothing they could do for me and I would just have to wait. All while constantly harassing me to renew my contract with them. Even being told "Well you're having these issues and there is no guarantee it will not happen again, so let's just go ahead and renew you." Never use this service, waste of $650, disband this company!!!Review fromSara B

1 starWe were directed to this Company when we purchased out first home. Since it was our first home we knew nothing about the company, and didn't know there were options. We had them for one year. In that year we filed one claim for our Dishwasher that took 90 days to resolve. In the end they shipped us all these parts, but couldn't fix the problem, so we still had to buy a new one. We were also stuck with all these parts that they wouldn't take back. Finally, as our Policy came up for renewal, we were HOUNDED by calls, daily. Also they automatically set our policy renewal to a monthly plan and I opted out 3 TIMES! They are just trying to take my money. They have these poor sales people calling and not knowing what they are getting into to be berated by my Husband and I to stop calling. Just avoid them, period. If you are forced to use them, try to negotiate a different ********. BBB needs to look into their business for sure and stop what they are doing to their clients.Review fromJuan F

1 starI currently have this home warranty company for my newly purchased home from a year back. I reported a claim on plumbing issues on a Thursday afternoon. Both toilets were clogged and we had no access to clean water. I asked that it be considered an emergency. I was told by their rep that it would take from 4 hrs to 24 hrs for a technician to respond, with 80% of calls being taken care of within 4 hours. Lie #1 (it takes minimum of 6 hours with at most 48 hours to respond according to their policy). After a full day with no response, I took it upon myself to open up the main line to relieve some of the pressure to the system and temporarily use the toilets. All the septic drainage went into our yard, but it was necessary. I received an email stating I could fire my own plumber and they would reimburse me. I tried hiring someone locally that would work with home warranties. Of course, no one wants to work with them. I decided to hire a plumber out of pocket and they told me it was the septic tank. I called HWA again and requested for a work order on my septic tank. They put it in and while they were at it, they kept pushing for me to renew my subscription with them. I agreed on the basis they would take care of my issue. One weekend later, I called to cancel my plan. Some manager called me back and asked me to work with them and not cancel. He promised results. A few days later, I called to cancel again. Another manager called me back, stating that the septic tank was not part of my plan. Lie #2 ( its part of the plan I have). She offered to approve the job with my own plumber if I stay with them. Or at least some of the cost. I told her I was tired of the lies and insisted on canceling. Her tone did a 180 and she sounded angry after that. In all honesty, I do not trust home warranties anymore. They are quick to charge you, but will be extremely frugal when it comes to provide service. It was a waste of time, health, and money. Good riddance.Review fromAnonymous

1 starHOW ARE YOU STILL IN BUSINESS?? THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH, COMPLETE LIARS AND SCAM ARTISTS. I'm so upset, I can not even articulate with words right now. Refrigerator is broken, guy comes out says it is completely nonrepairable, he submits the full report to HWA scammers, and they were supposed to call in 48 hrs, of course never heard a word. I've called and argued with these lying trifling rip off workers 6 diff times now, this is week 3 no working fridge. Get a random email weeks later from HWA after the technician they ordered deemed it 'UNREPAIRABLE', and ************ says due to 'unforeseen circumstances' your original appt date has been canceled and a new technician will be dispatched. When I call and go off about this confusing idiotic email, as the problem has already been unveiled, they say oh yes it says 'customer refused services'. BOLD FACE LIE, COMPLETELY. I wish I could touch these people. They don't want to pay for a new fridge, so they unbelievably lied on me straight out. I've demanded to talk to a manger multiple phone calls, the last was 4 days ago. They say will call me back within ***** hrs. These people will make you so beyond furious, and the sweat shop workers they have answering the phones are idiots and in on the scam. They all cover for each other. I loath these thieving con artists, they will have to answer to this evil one day and God will not have mercy for tricking and robbing innocent customers. Gotta beg and plead just to get a simple phone call....still never rang...Review fromRebekah E

1 starWe got a warranty plan when we purchased our home 3 years ago. We kept it for a few year but any time we filed it was rare they has a vendor in our area or it was weeks to months before someone could come out. We decided this year to let them plan expire. However, 2 times they have tried to put us on an auto-monthly payment so they can renewed us without asking our permission! Its a scam of a company that will do anything to keep your money! Ps- at their rates it is cheaper to just pay out of pocket!Review fromLA L

1 starPlease do not use this company- They are terrible. Part for a 20 year old washing machine is not manufactured and they say they won't offer a buy out bc it so not due to normal wear and tear. They case manager did not show for the call to resolve. In total I spent about 5 hours on the phone across 4 weeks trying to resolve this issue. They are dishonest, rude and unhelpful. Terrible customer service and a waste of time and in the end the case manager told me it was my fault that i misunderstood the escalation process to resolve the denial. Blame the customer, give the customer the run around, delay tactics, and lack of professionalism are the hallmark of this company. STAY AWAY !Review fromChuck M

1 starThese guys are scumbags. I called to stop my auto renewal of the policy. Then right when my policy is about to end, they send me an email saying:"Thanks for your continued loyalty. As you know, your coverage will be expiring soon. To make things a lot easier for you, we've placed your Home Warranty of America on Monthly Auto Renewal so you don't risk an unintended lapse in coverage just when you might need it most.We will simply charge the credit card you have on file with us each month on in the amount of $65.72, so you never have to worry about remembering to renew your plan and avoiding unexpected costs. Subsequent charges will occur on the of each month."They are unethical and have no shame in scamming people. I am so disappointed in them.Review fromAdam M

1 starWaste of time. Will keep you waiting for weeks on end for zero resolution. There is virtually no way to get a physical person on the phone, and any electronic communication will take a minimum of 1-2business days to hear back on. Anything they schedule, be it with a contractor or their escalation team will be more than a week out and often not accurate or kept. I had a call scheduled today with their escalation guy (I made the appointment, received 2 emails, and three text messages confirming my appointment) and didn't get a call. Once I navigated phone-tree h*** and got him on the phone I got told that my scheduled call was not today or that I was even on their schedule. They are a waste of time and money.
